Jason_Krueger
Name some horror movies that are must haves in any horror collection.

I would say the Dead Trilogy,
Texas Chainsaw Massacre(original not piece of crap remake),
&
Henry: Portrait of a serial killer

Deano
this has been done to death but since im bored..:

nightmare on elm street
halloween
dawn of the dead
night of the living dead
hellraiser
exorcist
the shining
TCM

BackFire
The Shining

Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Trilogy of the Dead

Evil Dead series

Henry - Portrait of a Serial Killer.

Cinemaddiction
Night of the Living Dead
Dawn of the Dead
Day of the Dead
Shaun of the Dead
Evil Dead
Evil Dead 2
Dead Alive
Halloween
Friday the 13th Part 4
Nightmare on Elm Street
Hellraiser 1 + 2
Re-Animator
Alien
JAWS
Scream
The Shining
Texas Chainsaw Massacre

..that about does it. "Henry", pretty predictable, good performance from Mike Rooker, but cheesy production doesn't lend itself well to considering multiple viewings, IMO.

MildPossession
To me, the following are a must in any horror collection, others have been mentioned above.

Carrie
The Omen
Cat People, and Curse of the Cat People for a interesting follow on
The Fog
Don't Look Now
Psycho(psychological thriller mostly, or as some call it a psychological horror)
The Haunting(original Robert Wise directed)
The Birds(another must from Hitchcock with horror elements)

Zilverz
My list:

Day of the Dead #1 movie everyone should own

the rest in no order
-------------------------
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Shaun of the Dead
Dead Alive
Friday the 13th: Final Chapter part4 (im not copying you cine)
The Thing
Texas Chainsaw massacre orignal
Halloween

Evil Dead
Dawn of the Dead
Day of the Dead
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Hellraiser
The Shining
Halloween
The Evil Dead
Alien
Jaws

tabby999
if you swapped Halloween with Evil Dead 2 on Evils list, i'd agree most with that one. or Cines, hes pretty on the money too.

I'm sensing a pattern here from all of us horror nuts, but who am I to not put in my two cents? Here goes:

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
Evil Dead Trilogy
Living Dead Trilogy
The Shining
The Changeling
Halloween
Freaks (1932)
Re-Animator
Hellraiser
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer

Most of these movies are essential to any TRUE horror fans collection, so most of us will all list the same movies over and over. I, myself, listed The Changeling because it was the first movie to genuinely scare me as a young adult, and Freaks, in my opinion, is a masterpiece of the macabre. However by todays standards it is not exactly "horror", but is still banned in some parts of the world for reasons I cannot even fathom.

GuitarBunny
Night Mare on Elm Street
House of 1000 Corpse
Devils Rejects (when it comes out on DVD)
Se7en
The Shining
Shaun of the Dead (laughing out loud )
Dawn of the Dead

b-dan

Oo definitely Freaks.

Black Christmas
Eyes Without A Face
Diabolique

Jaws

The Shining

The Silence Of The Lambs

romper_stomper
cant believe no-ones mentioned the following
last house on the left-groundbreaking violence at the time and probly cravens finest
cannibal holocaust/ferox-every self respecting horror fan should have either one of these in their collection
at least one lucio fulci film preferably the beyond, city of the living dead or zombie flesheaters

and a couple of obscurities are always nice so i reccomend either of the following
i drink your blood or frightmare

Cinemaddiction
LHOTH is incredibly dated, IMO. It's pretty flawed, granted it's his first film, but I don't think it's neccessary to own, much less watch over and over. As for it being Craven's best, that's more of an insult, lol. Especially when you'd consider puting it over "Scream" or "NOES".

chuckytiffany
CHILD PLAY 1-5
LEPRECHAUN 1-6
SCREAM
I KNOW AND STILL KNOW WHAT U DID LAST SUMMER
I AM NOT A BIG FAN

I don't believe its any of your business what is in my DVD collection. SO what if I have a only horror movies that are full of gory? So what if I find dead people more intresting then living ones? Now you think I'm completely insane but I say you are the ones in need of a psych exam. Now if you would excuse me the monster under my bed needs a glass of water.

MildPossession
The topic started asked for must have horror films in a collection, not what is exactly in your full horror collection(that's another topic going).

since ppl are only mentioning the more well known horror movies i thought i`d mention a couple of obscuritys that any self respecting horror/exploitation fan should own /watch

fight for your life-i know i rave on about this film but honestly its to goddamn good to just get swept under the rug

last house on dead end st-a 70`s sickie about a wanna be director who ventures into the realms of snuff movies some great gore and some creepy moments,it has lost none of its power to disturb

mothers day-a great troma produced rape revnge movie, very nasty and mean spirited with some moments of genuinley funny jet black humour

rape squad-another mean spirited 70`s revenge movie, this time featuring a hockey mask and overall wearing rapist, who looks very similar to jason but pre dates him by a number of years, some of the dialogue in this movie is priceless

tabby999
dont know if this fits as a horror persay, but its got some fine horror moments - American Psycho, a beautiful piece of work, acting is superb, blood runs thick, boobies, lovely camera work, all i could ask for in a movie

Spelljammer
Gremlins 1 and 2. (Childhood favorite.)
The Exscorsist.
House. (Childhood favorite.)
And any B movies.

deathbycorn
The Exorcist - The Beggining
Pet Semetary 1 & 2
Blair Waitch Project 1 & 2
Urban Legends 1 & 2
Night Flyer
Omen Series

papabeard
The WickerMan
Bubba Ho Tep
Shaun of the Dead
Zombie Flesh Eaters
Dog Soldiers
Silver Bullet
The Zombie Dead
Psycho
The Thing
Ringu
Ju-On
Dark Water

Cinemaddiction
There's no way in hell I'd include 1/2 the movies you kids are suggesting. They're mostly poor, and have no re-watch value, which is the point behind owning movies.

Deano
i'll list the ones i think most people would not have seen

let sleeping corpses lie(zombie fans should check this out)
maniac
eraserhead
the eye(jap version)
deep red
misery

MildPossession
the eye(jap version)

It's not a Japanese film.

Another two I'd like to add are:

House of 1,000 Corpses
The Devil's Rejects (I know its not available yet, but it WILL be in my collection)

Say what you will about Rob Zombie, but I think that, like his music, his movies are spectacular. House of 1,000 Corpses gets better every time I watch it, and when I eventually get the DVD I will be able to say the same thing for The Devil's Rejects.

p_s_luvit1989
Pet Sematary
Every nightmare on elm street (excluding freddy vs. Jason)
Childsplay 1,2,3,&4
The Bride With White Hair
