what iz tha darkness abilities.

I dunno, actually, I only have two comics of him. But he ROCKS!

u dont kno. what does he do in tha comic.

Man, he kicks ASS!

He has this horde of evil little goblins following him around, protecting him. Then there is this really hot chick , The Magdalena, who has been trained by birth to kill him.

Anyway, so after she manages to REALLY irritate him, she flees into a toy shop to hide and at the entrance of the shop, there is a mechanical Santa that says
"Welcome, boys and girls,
welcome to the World of Toys.
This world is your world!"

Then The Darkness enters

I can't remember if there's a scuffle, or what, but the Santa gets smashed, and all the lights go off, and then the comic ends, with The Darkness standing there, saying

"Welcome, boys and girls,
welcome to the world of The Darkness.
This is MY world!"

His power is to shape darkness or shadows into anything he wants. Additionally, as Dreampanther mentioned, he can summon all kinds of monsters. Goblin-things, big worms etc. They are native to the Dark Realms, so they obey him.

Yep, at night he is like a freakin' god, he can create anything he can imagine out of the darkness, and he can summon up an unholy army of darklings. Being a former mob hitman, he finds this ability real handy when in need of a weapon. He also seems to be pretty strong / durable. But at dawn, all his creations turn to ash and he is powerless / mortal? The Darkness has regenerated Jackie from bones fragments before having protected itself within a cavity in a tooth!
But, if he ever get's a woman pregnant, he'll die and those voices in his head can get annoying.

I guess he can fly too...

What is the story with the church?

I don't know much else about the whole church thing, other then Magdelena, the Blades (Witchblade and Excalibur), and something called the Angelus are supposed to be the natural enemies of the Darkness.
