Cinemaddiction
I do, but only on here, and only to UK'er's and Aussies. It's one of those people skills kind of deals where you can relate better to whomever you're talking to.

I catch Alison saying "bloody" a lot.

SlipknoT
Like as in "I just stepped on a Nail and my foot is all bloody?"

BlackC@t
No, more like "Bloody hell!"

I'm one of the few New Zealanders' who don't say mate.

Sir Mist

im from england and i dont say mate, i do say "bloody" alot tho...

Red Superfly
I don't say it much. I only say it like in "alright mate?".

It's the same as "dude". It's f*cking annoying when there's some American constantly going "Woah, dude, but dude, ya know dude? Like duuuude"

In moderation it's fine.

mysterio69
north americans say mate. but only in the 'discovery channel' sense of the word. whan someone says mate, i think of horny monkeys.

hotsauce6548
Only time Americans say mate is when they are fat guys who are trying to talk dirty to a girl, ie something like, "I want to mate with you."

... no expression

SlipknoT
I usually Say "You *****, Wanna Breed?"

and If that ''one of your friend's was me'' I would turn around and hit you back.............in the throat!!!! evil face evil face

RoyaldestroyeR
No we don't, unless faking a british or aussie accent. I would say the equivalent is 'dude' or 'bro', sometimes 'man', as they are most widely used, it usually depends on what part of America you're from. Some of the more gangsta, as we say, americans say dawg as sumone said above, homie or nigga(regardless of race, everyone says it now). Hope that helps.

Esau Cairn
Here in Australia, "Mate" is probably one of the most down to earth ways to address a friend or having a casual conversation with a stranger.

I mean if someone started referring to me as, "Dude, Bro, Dawg, Homie or Nigga" & I didn't know them, I'd automatically think they're a wanker (douchebag).

It's beyond my perception how Americans can be racist to a black person & THEN take up their slang, thinking it's cool.

the ninjak
Mate is used in the same way as "man"

Hey mate....Hey man....

Whatever.

Scythe
Mate, I reckon we don't.

rudester
I say it.

rudester
^ i just said that to fit in did it work? Im i fitting in?

Casper Whitey
Of course we do.

Jim Colyer
I have been to both England and Australia and must say, "mate" sounds strange to my ears.

I don't recall The Beatles ever saying "mate."

Villelater
in chess we say “checkmate” but thats more of a requirement...

Barker
I say it ironically sometimes, as in

oh u r 1 cheeky kunt m8

siriuswriter
I've heard people saying "mate" as in "man, dude, bro" in everyday usage in New England-y areas. Like Cape Cod, and up around in there.

tinawill08

Villelater
