Here is the situation. Batman fought a load of major criminals eg. Joker, Two-face, Riddler, Bane etc etc A bomb was accidentally dropped during the commotion. All are killed including Batman.

Who steps up to become the next Bats? Nightwing? Robin? Batgirl? Huntress? Alfred? lol

Personally I think that Nightwing will but what are your opinions?

yahman
Oh the Irony, Oh the Irony

Joker1237

Chief you are wrong. All i can say is this scenario is not to far fetched and there definitely is a replacement.

Joker1237
well They should have learn there mistake from knightfall.

I dont want a other Batman. Its going to be a minor replacement,(And if they killed off Wayne) They found a way to make Wayne return.

Maybe a fake body or something. A Body double.

NoFate007
Ok, if they did it the smart way, this is how I see it.

Now, you say all of Batman's major villains, and Bruce, are killed, correct? And the question is, who steps up as Batman?

Dick Grayson does. He was his first and best pupil, and to honor him, he'll abandon his reign as Nightwing to Tim Drake, and get Tim to start training a new Robin. Grayson will become Batman, honor Batman in the correct ways with the funeral services and whatnot, and move into his estate with Alfred and Tim, and the new eventual Robin.

That's the only way I see things happening, with that, Grayson's death brings Tim as Batman, and Tim's death brings the "new Robin" as Batman. So forth. From then on in, there will always be a Batman, or a Batman pupil of some sort.

Joker1237
But with Joker dead, Who will step up to take his Role???

We need a Joker junior lol.

I agree with this. Always two there are. No more, no less. A master, and an apprentice.

Personally. I hate it when they resurrect people after killing them off. I'm hoping the reason why is obvious so I'm not going to explain it. This has been done with Superman heaps of times and it makes me cringe, it's so cheap. To my knowledge it's never been done with Batman and hopefully it never will.

And Joker1237, the guy is asking a hypothetical question. It's not a question of whether it would happen or not, it's a question of the results.

I agree. Thats how I always imagined it to happen. And on top of this I think that the Bat family will adapt and grow................

NoFate007
Something I've always wondered, if it follows what I said I'd see happening, is whether or not they would hire another butler when Alfred dies. He helps them out A LOT, so would they hire someone else to tend for those things, as well as take over Wayne Industries?

you know some thing the joker can't die he just keeps comming back...lol haahahaaheeehehee....

Ok first of all i'd like to mention Superman/Batman Generations...great comics.....Dick stepped up there although other stuff happened and Bruce had a son......anyways...

Now your Scenario:

Depends, if Tim is old enough he will step up to it...he would be the perfect choice, and he would do a pretty good job.

Dick is Nightwing...that'S established...he won't..or at least shouldn't be Batman.....

I could also see a scenario where Batgirl would step up wit guidance of Oracle and and Tim....would be rather interesting....

Although...maybe since all his major villains are gone there'S no need for a Batman.....who knows....

A Green Lantern in Gotham would be great also.....

willRules
I think that Nightwing is the most logical choice............

i don't think that Nightwing wants to......he is Nightwing...equal to Batsy...he doesn't need to replace him..he's not his sidekick....

NoFate007
I think he would out of respect though. After all, Nightwing wouldn't even come close to existing without the years of tutelage from Bruce. Dick would just be a wreckless punk that was put in jail for getting revenge by shooting someone or something, or maybe even a supervillain himself. It was Batman that did everything for Grayson, everything from training him, to being a surrogate father, to providing for his meals and the roof over his head and so forth. I think Grayson would take it up, seeing as he respects him, and he's the senior member of the entire squad, and the best qualified.

Bardock42
Well but possibly, although it really depends how old Tim is...Batsy stated that he planned him to be his succesor......

But at what age? I think that Tim is too young to be Batman at the moment...............

Mainstream
I think if Bruce died Dick would become Batwing to honor his "father"

willRules
How old is Dick though? Do you think that becoming Batman at his young age will affect him, I mean he is young and ambitious and probably doesn't have the same things that drive him fowards, that Bruce has.........

Bat Dude
Well, when I was reading an old Teen Titans comics from 86, he was 19. Then I read a Batman comic from 90, it said he was 20. I don't know how old he is now but I'm guessing it's somewhere near 23.

I'm guessing Dick is 21 to 23 years old. Bruce was about 25 to 27 when he became Batman. I was kidding about the Batwing thing...but if Bruce died I could see Dick redesigning his suit to make it resemble Batman's out of Respect.

willRules
Yeah i can see a cape in the costume, he would probably make.........

and a belt for all his wonderful toys

In my years of reading the comics, I've always got a sense that Batman believes Tim is his best replacement. Nothing against Dick, he's made his own niche in Blaudhaven and has proven himself without a doubt, but I think Tim is the better trained man for the job, I think the problem is that Tim doesn't guite believe it yet.

yeah I see what you saying in a Titan Titans story arc Tim had became Batman..he was around 26. Dick was Batman before though after Jean Paul Valley went nuts with his "Bruce may need Robin but I don't thing".

i hate the idea of nightwing becoming the next batman...he is a superhero in his own right, he doenst need to step back in batman's shadow after stepping out of it, grayson as nightwing is cooler than wayne as batman

Mainstream
true if Dick became Batman he'd be taking a step back...if Batman died or quit I could see Nightwing redesigning his suit out of respect to the man who in many ways is like a father to him

I know what you mean, he has earned respect as a different hero but I think that he is the most logical choice, in fact I think it would be a sort of honour to be considered the man who replaces Batman..........

NoFate007
That's what I've been saying, it wouldn't be as a step up, since I think in a way he's almost topped Batman, but it would be a matter of honor. Perhaps he would change the logo and make it blue like his suit, but he would have the cowl and the cape and whatnot.

sevenman
THE NEW BATMAN WILL BE ALFRED

wuTa
no, i disagree respectively with the people who think grayson should be batman.....bruce wayne is batman, he created batman...made the transformatin to batman...his pesonalty is batman...dark, scary, detemined, obsessed....grayson personalty doesn't fit that of batman, he is more loosey goosey, more relaxed and humorous...he does have some charactoristics that are the same as batman like being determined and obsessed, but for the most part he is a whole different person/superhero........i like mainstreams idea that if he were to take over being batman, grayson would stay as nigtwing but make like an omege to batman on his suit, i personally like how terry mcgunies (sp?) became the next batman, if we were to have a new batman as of right now i personally think they should have time drake be the next batman, but have it setup like how terry became batman

Thats sorta what I meant.....I said it wrong...............

lil pimp
I dont mean to change the subject but since we'r talking about the robin's, which one died?for some reason i thought it was tim and from the looks of it i guess not!

cameron666
I have no idea what he died in, i have never heard of this. i am guessing a comic book.

Bruce Wayne is the only good batman. If Grayson ever took his role, i would never like batman again. i hate robin, in tv, comics, and movies.

OtterVomit
Jason Todd is the dead Robin.

SpyCspider
so's Stephanie......aka Spoiler who became Robin

lil pimp
is that the red head that looks like a dyke or the blonde. As you can tell i havent been keeping track of the batman comics.

willRules
Spoiler was blonde, Jason Todd was the Robin who died in the famous death in the family storyline.............

OtterVomit
The red head that looks like a dyke is probably Carrie Kelly, my favorite Robin.

willRules
So lets assume the scenario I mentioned takes place. I have asked what you guys think would or should happen, but what do you think the writers would do, have Robin replace Batman? Have Nightwing replace Batman? Or have either Nightwing merely taking up the role by altering his suit slightly?

NoFate007
I think what should happen would be Nightwing, as I said, and I think the writers would do that as well. Nightwing is the senior member of the team right now, and in the shock of Bruce's death, everyone will be looking for someone to turn to. If Gordon is still alive, he would contact Nightwing. Oracle would contact Nightwing, etc. Everyone would come straight to Grayson, because he has matured enough that he will think you know what...they need Batman in Gotham...alright old man, Batman isn't going to die.

Dick is the closest thing to Batman right now and he is the one that knows the most, is the best skilled for the job and so forth. I think he would alter the suit slightly, to make it some sort of mix between his and the Batman suit. Keep the cowl and cape and all that, and maybe redo the logo and make it blue in the center or something, you know what I mean. I don't think he would just say "well Nightwing is in charge now" cause that's not scary, Batman used his fear against his opponents, and how can you be afraid of two nouns being put together? lol

Oh no, Morning Beak is after me!!!

I think the frustration of Bruce's death, and the grief, would help convert Dick into a more sinister hero. Not having that man to fall back on, losing his mentor and brother/father would make him become Batman.

willRules
I agree partially with that, Im not sure if Nightwing would suddenly go all evil and brooding and therfore become Batman, However I think he would become Batman in some way............

NoFate007
Well no, I didn't mean he'd be evil, just that he'd have, at least temporarily, a rage in him and wouldn't be as light-hearted as he usually is. Right now one of the only things that separates him from Bruce is that brooding nature like you said, and with Wayne's death I think it would push Grayson over that ledge for a little while.

willRules
Is that your own opinion or is that how you think the writers would do it............

NoFate007
Part of it is my opinion but I think that's how the writers would do it. Sometimes it seems like they can make really weird choices but I think for the most part, they try to keep it logical as if it were the real world. That's why we have characters that die and so forth. Grayson didn't stay Robin forever, Jason Todd was killed early on, etc.
