seiously most of us collect comics because of the here and now but when time comes what will you do with them?
will you even still be collecting comics sad

willRules
Umm well surely the price of some of em will increase after a long time........

Well as a collector of 30 years only a few really get valuable, strangely my most beloved are some of my most valuable from a fiscal standpoint. But thats only because they had small print runs. Independant comics which have small print runs are your best bet for comics as investments if thats what your aftersad If it is I feel sorry for you sad
Examples of comics I could make money on :

Miracleman as the legal dispute keeps it out of print
First 2000AD appearances of Dredd
things like Hellboy, Concrete, Appleseed, Akira, Grendl first editions etc.

Mainstream ones like Giant size Xmen 1 are good because no one knew the New Xmen would be popular. At the mo Supreme Power 1 is a hottie as is the original Ultimates and the Authority smile

I wouldn't sell mine though unless I had to and I have 30 years worth big grin

Do the Mathsmile

HigH ScholaR
perhaps but honestly know..what will you do...
alot of peole say how the comic's value will increae and they'll do somrthing about it to cash in on it but how many will or are determined to do that i think that most likely it will be left to wither away torn and stuff, perhaps it will be past down or pawned but not howwe want it to be.

Probably keep them, hand them down either to kids of my own if I have any or to my brothers.

HigH ScholaR
that is what i was thinking and is most likely to happen to the average comic reader

yer i agree i'll try find a girl that's into comics as if i don't probably she might find comics childish ausing effects on how i associate with comics and what i'll do with them. but i'll most likley past my comics down cool

ScarletSpider
I'll keep mine, make sure they're packed up nicely and put them in storage, pulling them out from time to time to reread and reminesce. I'll end up giving them to my kids, or nephews or someone--as I have all of my father's comics that survived, so I think it's only fair I should pass mine on, once the children are old enough and responsible enough.

Scoobless
i'm considering getting mine buried with me

lol

i've been collecting for just over ten years, i've spent quite a tidy sum on them over that period.... but i doubt i'd ever consider selling them..... that would only ever be a possibility if someone offered me a ridiculously overpriced amount for them..... i'm talking a crapload more than they're actually worth

as for passing them down to kids.... well, i'd have conditions for that..... they'd have to have developed their own interest in comics, be shown to be responsible with them (not throw them on the floor or bend back the pages).... and be at least 15 years old

until all those criteria are met they may only view my comics from behind a Plexiglas wall

DigiMark007
The 15-year-old limit is good, but for other reasons than Scoob stated (I'd want them firmly grounded in reality before handing them a comic).

But I'll pass mine down. I'm not one to collect too much, and any use I find for something is a good one, so as soon as I have nephews/kids/students (I'll be a teacher soon) who are interested I'll pass them off to others who will appreciate them.

HigH ScholaR
I just thought about it all the modern comics we collect will eventually be essentials perhaps seeing how quick marvel like to dish them out perhaps in the next 10- 15 years.

me, im the kinda guy where i only collect TPBs to save on space, and single issues when i really really cant do any better. i dont think any of mine will be worth anything so i dont worry about that, but just the satisfaction of knowing that i got a lot of complete series is good enuff for me...ergo im keeping mine forver!! and not passing them down to anybody.

the only time they might be worth anything is if like 100 years from now when the entire mythology, story lines, canon, secret origins, and overall universe of every single charcter is started all over again. like the way that frank miller is running the current batman and robin, with dick as a little kid, after all that develops over the years, and dick grows up and leaves and makes way for jason todd(providing that good ol frank doesnt live up to his rep. and quit, or does something dumb to get fired over) you can expect titles like no man's land, and war games and such to be highly sought after, cuz the frank miller stuff would be the new canon, the new benchmark if you will, and it would be like all the other stuff never happened.

the same way the entire arc, and universe where doomsday killed supes has long since been deleted, but it's still referenced in current supes canon today. despite the fact that in those days Matrix was supergirl, and Lex was actually a bioengineered red headed clone...they leave that part out of course.

I could NEVER sell any of my comics, not even the crappy ones. I'm way too attached to them. In fact, the thought of losing them (if a fire broke out or something) makes me shiver.

Lets try not to go off topic here now..... shifty

HigH ScholaR
Well i was originally gonna keep them "forever" maybe even sell them off when age is taken into account for thier price.

But now I'll probably just bin them facepalm2

Black bolt z
Most of the comics I own are at least 20 years old. Some 30 or 40. By the time i'm 40 i'm sure they will all be worth a lot.

HigH ScholaR
Yeah my oldest i think is around 20-30 years old. My comic stash is at my mother's house in a store room. But I havnt got passion for comics anymore, i guess for me it was something to do, something to escape into. I didnt know that i would personally read anything; I read alot of books now (historic mostly) so i guess it was a thirst for reading that spawned my comic days. True or not i still have a stash of comics that i occasionally read that i dont really seeing myself keeping

(yes i know i dont capitalise my "I"wink

Assuming I have any, give them to my kids.

edit: it made no sense what i just wrote

Galan007
I imagine that if the world ends, my comic collection will eventually be used as the blueprints to begin manufacturing them again. Think 'The Book of Eli', without the religious overtones.

But that would also require my external hard drive, a computer, and electricity surviving... Which is unlikely. I'll cross my fingers anyway, though. leftright

HigH ScholaR
Yeah I could scan all my comics into my hard drive, actually no that would end up being a chore.

So Galan are all your comics digitally based?

Galan007
I have a few bins of physical comics at my house, but yeah, the HUGE percentage of my comics are digital. I think I have around 600GB worth, or some shiz.

HigH ScholaR
Did you buy them that way or did you "scan" them?

Galan007
I bought the physical copies, of course. Downloaded everything else.

600GB?!?!? Thats a helluva lot of space. Isn't that like over a quarter of your space even for the most high tech computer?

srankmissingnin
I'll just end up on comic book hoarders or something in 60 years.

I honestly don't see much in terms of any significant appreciation in value (sorry Spawn #1 the first comics I bought with my own money) unless print medium get completely toppled by digital distribution (which I honestly don't see happening any time soon). If you want to collect something that will sky rocket in value buy toys and whatever the newest fad trading card game is (pokemon, yugioho... whatever), anything kids like now. Why? Because kids can't take care of anything. 99% of the product gets destroyed and 20-30 years from now those kids are all nostalgic for the same crap that has all but disappeared from the annals of time. That is what my dad did and he made out like a bandit when he sold his collection.

Downloading is legal in Canada, but I try to only dl comics I already own for a scan... because whoever scans them does a much better job than I would. Merging two panel spreads, editing out folds, colour correction... I wouldn't do that shit, but it is nice to have a clear scan. Plus it is easier to organize digital comics.

I still have my Poke'mon cards. I sold my YuGiOh ones AGES ago. Made a couple hundred bucks off of it and palm pilot to go with it.

I'll stick more to digital now as it saves space. I invest my money into other things for passive income. I'm not sure if I'd sell my old stuff. Depends.

If you have comics you don't want find someone who will appreciate them. If not via ebay or online sales, perhaps donate the child friendly issues to a local orphanage or kids hospital.........

........ laughing I can't say that with a straight face.

Burn them in a ritualistic bonfire with naked dancing. Careful not to accidentally give yourself exotic burns, though. Voice of experience yes

King Castle
my electronics i give my friends to read through but almost 99% dont read them..

it's something to do when bored, usually i give full volumes..

aside from that my real comics are in my closet i horde them and i'll die with them no one will benefit from them..

my kids or family would just sell them and keep the money. i rather they decompose with me..
