Animaniacs, Looney Tunes and such are cartoons.

The Simpsons are an animated sitcom quite clearly. It's what they win awards for.

I just realized...by AC's criteria "Robotech" (where two of my favorites came from) isn't a cartoon either. It is a "space opera."
