why has the hulk lasted this long

why has the hulk lasted so long since the 1960's he's had a staedy contituty ever since his 2nd volume, but why has he lasted, what is it about him.

1. He's Marvel's powerhouse
2. His potential is never reached
3. Why shouldn't he, if far lesser characters have existed over the years?

I think it may have to do with all of us at one point in our lives just wishing we could just go on a rampage everytime something just really pissed us off, so we naturally see this within the Hulk. . This is especially prevelant during our teenage years. I don't know, it just seems like it, and with each new generation of teenagers there's a whole new batch of audience for the Hulk.
