when it says a thread has been moved......how do you know where it went

There's usually a redirect, unless the moderator forgot to leave it. Just click the original link, and it will take you to the new thread location.

or

If the thread subject is clear enough You can use common sense.

for example: if Saving private Ryan was in Horrow movies forum, it would most likely be put in MDF.
