Uncle Whirly is interested - he used to be a student himself and he likes students confused in particular the girls shifty So opinionated and yet so young and inexperienced big grin a dynamite cocktail!

When I was a student................ my soon to be educated young friends, we had a well deserved reputation for drinking far to much, taking drugs, promiscuous sex, large overdrafts, buying halves of snakebite and black, reversing our underwear as to not wash it, talking pretentiously about our great life experience where this really meant we went inter-railing in our gap year. We worried about causes "real" adults were not interested in - because they had mortgages and real worries and the "lesser spotted pink flamingo" was low on there list of priorities. I'm interested are you students of today as much of a burden to society as I am proud to have been?

Whirlysplatt
big, lazy, good for nothing, burden to the tax payer, skimpy dressing confused bump

Fishy
Well seeing as my school system is different then the one the US has, I don't know if I'm a student... But if I am then yes I drink to much. So much that I lose my fathers bike and have no idea what I did with it, just that I apparantly managed to get away from town on it. Don't do drugs though, and i'm not a burden on society.. I'm to smart for that stick out tongue

jaden101
students...bloody hate them...and i am one...

as per the rest of my life...i dont conform to the stereotype of the student in that i'm a clean living, hard working son of a ***** right wing bastard with plenty of cash in the bank (self earned i might add)

although the hard drinking and promiscuous sex is a must...

Imperial_Samura
Hmmm. I am at university, and I know the image of students that you speak of, and while I have plenty of friends who live up to that, I fear it's not really my scene. I have plenty of fun, just without substances and reversed underwear (I always do my washing)

Hmmmmmmmmm.... Yup reminds me of Paul Calf.....

And yup Ive met plenty of those who have typified that more or less exactly... Particularly the ones who waffle on pretentiously about what they see as the ways of life to those with far more experience...

Violence is the only answer to that. stick out tongue

Not entirely sure what this thread is about...but if you want my opinion on students of today, I will say that I find them quite annoying.

Arrogant little elitists that instantly assume their status as university student entitles them to some type of recognition/respect...most of them are extremely naive, and for the most part incredibly and hopelessly stupid...despite giving the impression that they are smart.

The worst attribute has to be the 'street' accents and slang used by mostly suburban white kids in clearly desperate and futile attempts to gain attention and respect from the minority crowd.

ElectricBugaloo
what i hate even more is elitists on internet messageboards

Mech DOES have a real job and responsibilities, so he's long past the point of such enjoyment.

smile thats good - then he understands bar the opinionated with little life experience bit being a student is about instant gratification due to deferred responsibilities.

Though I partied a lot in school, I still worked my ass off and got sh:t done. Delivering pizzas helped me survive once my parents cut me off financially. Then I figured out how to get student loans and started partying harder. God I hope my parents aren't reading this. But I always got my sh:t done.

mechmoggy
Eeeeugh, I just got back from Uni and I feel dirty.

I think I'll scrub myself with a wire bursh and some dettol...

Red Superfly
I worked my arse off as a student, but I also partied hard.

I had many friends who pissed it all away, unable to grasp the concept of the yin and the yang.

Hard working students deserve to party. They do exist. I was one of them. Those that don't and just piss it all away with booze and drugs frustrate me.

Work hard, play hard - that's my philosophy, but maybe that's because I'm a passionate, dedicated and quite intense guy.

I have a masters in a specific kind of Management I did at work - it was unit based and took three years, it was the only way to have a life and do it!

mechmoggy
Where did you study?

I'm at Brunel at the moment, and it blows.

Whirlysplatt
I have degrees or post grad qualifications from Notts poly, Southbank Uni, Goldsmiths university of London and the West Sussex institute that was the part time one.

mechmoggy
Cool. I go to Uni with a lecturer from lsbu.

What do you study, my first degree was in biochem - specialising in molecular biology particularly enzymes (it was before the gm food scares)

mechmoggy
Engineering - I'm doing an MSc in Advanced Manufacturing Systems.

My BEng (Hons) was in Management of Manufacturing Systems, which I studied at UCE. That was a whole new site though, so I was really spoiled rotten there. It makes Brunel look like a dive.

Although I must be honest, Brunel are spending a shed load of money doing the place up. The canteen is really good now. Shame their inspection lab equipment is older than God's dog. wheelchair
