Lets do something less hostile and more fun.

Post all the pictures of beautiful architecture of temples/churches/mosques and other places of worship.

If you do not have a picture or a nice comment, don't bother posting. I don't want arguing about religion in this thread.

Its happy picture thread.

Lol, do the images not pop up on your comp? Odd, they were showing up on mine, I'll have to figure that one out. They aren't there on mine now, either.

Years ago, at an old job a coworker of mine showed me pictures he had taken of a church in the Czech Rep, it was decorated exclusively with human bones. Apparently sometime in the past (by his accounts) a plague had devastated the populace of the village, so in honor of the dead, the survivors decorated their church with their remains (different story according to the website). Murals, chandeliers etc all made from bone. Though it is morbid, it is also beautiful I think. I hadn't though about until this thread came up and through the magic of 'Google', I found a site. Check out the pics and enjoy.

It's the attach file at the bottom, not the img at the top. And it doesn't always work quite right, one of mine was messed up somehow.

The Temple in the Sea- Trinidad

http://www.traveladventures.org/continents/southamerica/images/waterloo02mini.jpg

Its not that special to look at but the story behind it is great.

An Indian labourer, Seedas Sadhu, had constructed a first temple on the seashore in 1947, after which is was bulldozered and Sadhu sent to prison, because built on the lands of Caroni, the state sugar cane monopolist. That's when Sadhu decided to built the temple IN the sea, and it took him 25 years to build the temple, all by himself and his bicycle with which he transported the building materials.

After many years of being in disrepair, it was finally fixed up and is now a famous heritage landmark in the country
