Why is the OT just so damn good..

Why is the PT just a horrible dissapointment...

Why is Han solo so cool...

How much should we hate geroge for the PT...

Why do we all buy the over-priced trilogy box-stes...

Why do we stand for Jar Jar Binks...

These are some questions that I myself have pondered upon many a year, five minutes actually, yet their questions which should be answered!

roughrider
People buy the box sets, see the PT trilogy in gigantic numbers over and over again...because they want to. Because they like what they see; no matter what some people, obsessed with the OT like it was The Ten Commandments, rant about over and over again on internet rooms. stick out tongue

exanda kane
Wow you realy just made the most redundant point I've ever seen :P

roughrider
Thank you - almost as redundant as this topic.

12 Times thrown up? That'S nothing I think the average is 20 in this most horrible atrocity called "movie".

roughrider
Well, I saw Phantom Menace 27 times.
Now granted, that was after 16 years in the wilderness; give a man a big glass of water, he's gonna chug. Phantom is good but it is the lesser of the six films. By 2002, I had a dvd player with full 5.1 digital surround sound, so I didn't go as crazy for Clones - 16 times.

The Ones
I have seen

TPM= 84 times

AOTC= 93 times

ROTS= 127 times

ANH= 71 times

ESB= 87 times

ROTJ= 34 times

roughrider
That doesn't sound possible, seeing ROTS 127 times in 5 1/2 months. Exaggerating?
My above viewing only counts for times in the theater, not VHS or DVD.
Original trilogy - combined viewing is in the hundreds I'm sure.

SS_181st_Snow
If you saw ROTS 127 times, you can recite every line in the movie.

The Ones
i have downloaded it. and ive seen it atleast once a day. and i saw it 10 times in cinema

exanda kane
yeah im sorry but why'd do you watch these films so much, dont you have like jobs or college or something? only joking.... anyways I totally agree with the guy that questioned the term' movie' when RotS

The Ones
i go to school. but i have no life apart from that

Why do you think? Because it's Star Wars, the same reason why the PT is just as if not more brilliant!

After watching all the Star Wars movies do you know what I've discovered? That one movie could never exist without the other (not even episode IV).

If you ever have the time, watch the movies chronologically (I know Episode III is not in the movies anymore so you'll have to wait for the DVD), the movies turn into one BIG 12 hour movie, it's really rewarding and you'll realize how much work GL has put into each and every one.

Another thing is that when I asked my Dad (who isn't a big fan of Star Wars) which was his favourite he said that you can't pick one movie out of the whole stack, it's one story, Star Wars is funny that way.
It doesn't fit in the status quoe of 'normal' movies.

exanda kane
err mate thats bollocks...the PT sucks as a whole and all the little 'flashy' bits they added in the PT will turn people off from watching the Originals which can actually be called movies

The Ones
man your the one thats talking bollocks. the PT is brilliant, i love the PT as much as the originals

overlord
The PT is based on something brilliant that's why it is still better then most movies as most hollywood movies are just plain sucky.. But the PT had some very weak points and I think Lucas should have taken some more time to make them up. Not saying they aren't great though, just saying they could have been better.

The PT does not suck, the only thing wrong with it is that the acting get's a little wooden at some points, so what? Are you trying to say that the OT's acting is better?

Luke/Mark Hammil: (after his village was destroyed) I want to come with you to Alderaan. There's nothing for me here now. I want to learn the ways of the Force and become a Jedi like my father.

This speech gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it, it was so poorly delivered (don't get me wrong, Hammil did clean up his act), that it makes me want to take him by the scruff of his scrawny neck and throttle him to death.

You can learn the ways of my fist fool!

The Ones
i admit the only problem the PT had was 1 or 2 cring worthy lines (ie: "so love has blinded you"wink but overall i think it kicks the PT to death. if the PT was released first everyone will be: ah the sequels suck. 1,2 and 3 were the originals therefore they rule. only because they came first people think there the best.

overlord
I think the prequels should have been gore, massacre, pure horror.
Kids don't want to see some clumsy frog-humanoid become a politician and nobody cares about this droid idea getting copied and nobody wants to see that Chewbacca is Yoda's sister. So Lucas was stupid to aim it at little children.
Oh yeah, and I want porn! PORN! PORN!!! Killer cool..

exanda kane
Dudes when did I say the acting - the whole PT just sucks - it lacks everything that makes the OT so brilliant - of course we shuldn't be suprised about this - following a mostly brilliant original trilogy with a bunch of toy commercials pretending to be a trilogy aint gonna be brilliant! but they couldnt have been better! So so so much better!

Great Vengeance
I completely agree with Kane, PT blows...It lacks the magic of the OT. Remember the first time you watched ESB? Now your going to tell me any of the prequels had close to the same effect? roll eyes (sarcastic)

roughrider
I was 11 when ESB came out. Naturally I was swept away. Why don't we poll some 11 year olds now, whos big experience is watching the prequels in the theatre now. Bet they are blown away; some probably even view the OT as "old." eek!

overlord
Yeah well that would just be basic presumption. Like eleven year olds know anything of story and plot, lightsabers and special effects will always blow their minds. But trust me, if Lucas had spend more time on the overall storyline, the PT would be much better.

roughrider
I've asked this question before on this site - how many people here were even alive when the original trilogy came out? How many saw them in the theatres when first released, at an age old enough to understand? All the people who haven't don't REALLY know what it was like; can't turn back the clock. And yes, as a younger person, I was following plot and story, no problem. If Star Wars were nothing more than a lot of effects and action with little story, like so many Jerry Bruckheimer or Joel Silver produced films, they would have been left in the dustbin of memory long ago. People stay with this saga for a reason.

exanda kane
They are both cool - but as Solo gets more screentime - and honestly does have more to his character than Boba - and about the age thing...

I wasn't old enough to watch the OT when it came out at the cinema and i've seen the PT at the cinema and even I can make the conclusion that the OT is great and the PT seems like a half-arsed attempt to cash in on a franchise (it may not have started like that - but thats what came out of it). Man, I was about 10 when TPM came out and I hated it - the droids, the gungans, the special affects and Darth Maul... even I could bloody see the pile of crap that lies in the midst of all that bad-scripting and flashy effects....

i agree it is one movie and it should be viewed that way we can all have our fav eps and what not but it is one story it is so much better watching them all together and u will appricate the ones that u dislike more then if u watch them seprate

jainasolo55
the reason we like them is because its sw and will always be no matter how horrible they get smile

For me, the great thing about these movies, particularly episode four, and in some cases eps four to six, was the used future feel. what really captured me was the feeling that this was a place that was REAL, and some guys had just gone out and photographed it. it was like the movies merely reported on a REAL fantastic world out there. that was what REALLY grabbed me. the used future. right down to the driving gloves of han solo.

The PT movies have a different style which takes getting used to. Each Star Wars movie is different. I didn't care for Phantom Menace, I thought AOTC was good. But Sith is a definite return to form. And the final saber battle on the Mustafar - you can't tell me that's not pure SW!

These are some questions that I myself have pondered upon many a year, five minutes actually, yet their questions which should be answered! It would of been if it weren't for **** like you saying pointless things. PT was good. Pointless, but good. Especially TPM n ROTS smile. Y'see, the only things why it was good was because you only had to remember 10 characters.

Luke
Han
Leia
Vader
Palpatine
Jabba
Yoda
Ben
C-3PO
n R2D2.

PT: A lot. lol.

overlord
Way to revive a pointless thread.

overlord
