Comic Book Halloween

DigiMark007
K, so I like dressing up as stuff for Halloween, even though I'm well beyond the trick-or-treating phase. I honestly haven't gone as too many comic characters (I was a ninja turtle one year), but I'm planning on starting this year.

1. What comic people have we dressed up as for Halloween? Which would we like to dress as?

2. Post links to find obscure comic costumes if you know of anywhere that has them.

I desperately want to go as The Doctor from The Authority this year, but short of making a costume from scratch I doubt I'll find one (and I'm too lazy to make it).

-DM

DigiMark007
I'll get us started.

http://www.nightmarefactory.com/superhero.html

They have FF, Doom, Spidey, G. Goblin, Hulk, Supes, WW, Xena, Mr. Incredible, Cap, Robocop?

DigiMark007
If only it were for sale...

Swanky-Tuna
That's a pretty nice Doom mask on that site.

And that robocop costume is the most hilariously terrible thing I've ever seen.

Mindship
< going as the Invisible Woman...well, maybe the Invisible Man, no one will be able to tell the difference wink

Next Venom_girl
I wore an ubercheap She-Venom costume last year.
i was a samurai the year before that... a werewolf the year before that... Ceres Victoria (vampire cop of Hellsing) before that... and 7 of 9 (former borg of Star Trek Voyager) the year before that... Do more candy handing out then collecting in recent years. That and watching horror movie marathons. tv_horror

Scoobless
you can't go wrong with a Supergirl costume Digi

remember when Pheobe wore one in Friends?

DigiMark007
Supergirl?? Yeah I'll remember that...roll eyes (sarcastic)

Anyway, I'm working on piecing together a "The Doctor" costume out of old clothes, spray paint, and some random accesories. Once I get the crack addiction I'll be set. My laziness didn't pay off, can't find it online, but once I got the idea in my head I had to try it.

If all works well I'll get a pic on the forum if I can (my scanner's dead but I'll figure something out) since no one from my regular (See: Non-dorky) life will have any idea who he is, nor will they care. But I'll just turn their heads into daisies....yeah, we'll see who's laughing then.confused big grin

I also saw a badass Venom mask the other day. Not a fan (and Spidey costumes generally suck) but Venom Girl woulda loved it...

see that's the thing.... i could go to a Halloween party with a perfect replica of The Doctor's costume.... and no one would know who i was (comics are not huge in Scotland)... hell, when ever i mention most mainstream characters to friends/family most people have no idea what the f**k i'm talking about

when i heard they were making an Iron Fist movie i told a couple of people... blank stares

went to see a film a while ago with a mate... the FF trailer comes on..... he asks "who the f**k are they?"

my bro and sis (who both know of my comic collection..... and have been forced to learn slightly more than the normal person) don't know who Captain America is

my bro thinks Superman is the most powerful guy in comics ..... when we were doing that first amalgam tourney he kept saying "just take Superman... who can beat him?".... when i answered with a list of a ton of people he just turned and walked away

rant over.....for now

I understand. I get the same thing all the time. I was discussing the amalgam tourney with a friend at one point and he told me to take Morph (because he was the only guy he remembered from the old cartoon show). Apparently he thinks Morph is a lot better than he really is.

But I'll just have fun explaining who The Doctor is, especially as I get steadily more drunk at whatever party I'm at. Frustrating attempts to manipulate matter while sloshed will be much better than actually getting recognized as a mainstream character. big grin

Got my list now too...blue turtleneck, purple vest, cut-off gloves, boots, red goggle thingies, black pants, colored hair (I'm thinking orange). Should be interesting...

-DM

P.S. Haha. Nice Wolverine costume...but where are the claws??

DigiMark007
I bought the stuff...actually going as The Doctor. No one will know who I am nor will they care...but it'll at least be fun for me. It was also surprisingly cheap to cobble together the necesary stuff for the costume.

Grape Ape was my first choice this year (the old Hanna Barbera cartoon) but The Doctor will be cool too.

DigiMark007
Bump!

I'm thinking about doing something like I did last year.

For those who don't know, I was The Doctor from The Authority for Halloween last year. Can't trick-or-treat anymore (obviously) but it made for a weird story at parties as people lost interest as I explained who he was. lol....good times. wink

Current front-runner in "super heroes I'd like to dress up as this year" is Thor. The chance to speak pseudo-Shakespearean English while wielding the Mighty Mjolnir seems too cool to me.

...more to come...

You should go as Midnighter... then when anyone compliments you on your Batman costume you can mock them in a very "this-dumbass-knows-nothing-about-comics" sort of way

Thanks. The helmet and chest-piece were from a store-bought Thor costume, but I went searching for the wig myself and fashioned Mjolnir from a blue-green hammer-mess that we had lying around in our basement (I had to cut and sand the handle, and spray paint it silver and add the runes).

Fake muscles....part of the chest-piece. They stop midway through the arm though, so it looks kinda bad from certain angles.

...I'm planning my costume.

Batman? Possible, but it's very obvious.
Jedi? I've done it before and it's not technically comics, but I'm planning on building my own lightsaber from store-bought metal parts and some schematics I found online.
Others? I haven't thought of anything good just yet, but I have about another week to decide.

...

Anyone else doing something special this year? Or am I the only one that still dresses up?

...for the rest of you, there's some fun pics in this thread. Me as Thor, Jinzin as Wolverine, random Halloween pics, my friend in a Cyclops visor, etc.

Cool. Have fun (slacker stick out tongue )

I always thought being a GL would be cool, but I'd want to be Alan and they only sell the classic Hal-style costume. I could piece it together, but it would be hard as hell. And rings are seperate, and cost a decent amount if you don't want a plastic cracker-jack kind, so it's not financially viable for me right now.

If building the lightsaber isn't too hard, I'll probably go the Jedi route. True to form (and to my wallet), my robe isn't official (damn things are like $80). I have a monk's robe ($15 big grin ) and a rope belt.

Nah, it was build one or bust for me. I already have a plastic one, and don't really feel like trying to mod it....it wouldn't be nearly as cool anyway.

Actually, the backup plan to these backup plans is to go as an abstract concept (an idea I borrowed from an old Dino Comic). It could be pretty much anything, and I could throw it together in under an hour...I'd just have to make everything I'm wearing into a symbol.

Wearing a gray suit and making a fatsuit for myself out of duct tape and pillows might be hilarious, so Kingpin's a strong possibility.

It's that time of year again. Post your embarrassing photos. Browse embarrassing photos from past years. Share musings about potential endeavors for this year.

Though I'd like to point out that if we were making teams from everyone we've been for Halloween, I'd be pwning you all (iirc). The Doctor and Thor head the list, and I'm considering trying to add Alan Scott to their ranks. The gauntlet is thrown, gents. Let's see who the first is to meet the challenge and dress as LT or something.

Some friends of mine and I are trying to organize a group costume thing, where we do characters from the awesome TV show The Venture Bros. That will fall through though, and Alan's the leading candidate for me, but won't be easy. So we'll see. It might not happen this year.

Anyway, there's a mid-size comic-con this weekend near me. Adam West will be there, as will a few other cool people. I kinda forgot or I woulda had the Alan Scott costume ready to go.

I might still try. I have 2 days of nothing to put it together. If not, Thor's making a repeat appearance. My custom Mjolnir really is quite sweet. The Doctor costume is in disarray and I'd need to buy the hair spray paint again, so I'm less inclined to bring it back.

Disappear
i'd been planning to go as half-transformed donald blake last year. a business suit with a long blond wig, the helmet and the hammer. it'd be donald blake if he dropped his stick or something, instead of pounding it on the ground. i don't know...

this year i'm going as peter whitman, from the darjeeling limited. absolutely nothing to do with comics, but it's gonna be fun as shit seeing people try to guess who or what i am. a blue button-up pajama shirt, pink boxers, slippers, sunglasses and a stupid necklace. i only know one person besides myself who'll guess it immediately.

DigiMark007
Ha, nice.

And no one recognized the Doctor, or even cared when I told them who I was.

So I've been there.

Entity
Well guess I'll probably be going with the legions of other Jokers out there.

Was planning on taken the milf I was seeing that I posted pics of in the pic thread as Harley Quinn before things ended with that. But I'll be more animated serious and comic book stylish as apposed to the new Dark Knight joker look. Sorry but as much as I loved Ledgers performance to the point the look didn't bother me during the movie, I still absolutely hate it by itself or compared to the normal style Joker.

That is if I'm able to round up some suit parts form goodwill or cares and dye them purple or just get lucky and find purple ones in time. Otherwise I'll probably just cut my hair grab my jeans and put on my red and black S shield shirt and go as Connor this year.

Hummm Connor back form the dead would be interesting perhaps! hmm

DigiMark007
Put on zombie makeup and go as Bizarro Connor!

DigiMark007
Alan's almost a go, and the comic-con this weekend has given me a reason to dress up.

I just need to spray paint my old Zorro cape, and buy green pants. Otherwise I'm set.

Pics, and of me with the likes of Adam West no less, will be forthcoming in the coming weeks. Pics will be good. Adam West! durlove

DigiMark007
The pants are proving tricky. Hopefully I can find a pair tomorrow. And the wig's a mess. I have some tweaking to do to it.

Otherwise, things are ducky, and Alan's still a go. I found a cool GL-ish ring that I'll be spray-painting green, so I guess that means I'm going as GL Alan instead of Sentinel.

It's alarming how no stores have green athletic pants.

Though in desperation I actually tried on a pair of women's green pants....only to realize that they don't have to account for a penis in the crotch length. It was two sizes too big and still giving me a nut-contour camel toe because it hugged my junk so tight.

Needless to say, I'm still searching. I may be forced to spray paint a pair I currently own.

Yes.

It is weird.

That there is not a higher demand.

For green trousers.

Very weird.

Seriously though, that's pretty good.

DigiMark007
It was cobbled together from various parts, but I think it turned out fairly well. The trickiest part was getting the large collar on the cape to stand up. I eventually developed a trick for getting it to stay: spray painting clothes makes them a bit stiff. Normal amounts aren't bad, but I doused the collar in about half a bottle of spray and let it dry in the position I wanted....it was like putting moose into hair to make it stand on end.

The pics don't really show the ring, which is a shame. It's pretty nice looking.

Scoobless
Did you print out the lantern picture yourslelf then just stick it onto a red shirt?

DigiMark007
Yeah, pretty much. They don't sell Golden Age GL costumes, and I couldn't find a good image online, since any pic of Alan that I found was too small. When you enlarge images too much they get distorted and grainy. So I had to modify a regular lantern pic heavily. The whole image was very Photoshop'd. Considering that, it turned our well I thought. But yeah, I had to "make" most of the costume myself since nothing was easy to come by.

All I had was my camera phone, there are other pics on my mates cameras that I'll have to get ahold of at some point.

The paint took almost as long to remove as it did to apply (face, neck, arms, chest) I slept in it and my bed is now fairly yellowish.

Disagree. That's the plastic store-bought hammer that he had. Besides being oddly disproportioned, it wouldn't be able to hurt anyone. My Mjolnir is solid wood, and would legitimately crack some heads open if I went into Warrior Madness mode.

It isn't. It extends down too far from top to handle, and is nearly the length of the handle itself. The angle Kimmel is holding it at makes it harder to see clearly, especially we don't see the full handle for reference, but I've seen that model in stores. It's flimsy and weird-looking.

Y'know Digi you can take pills if you're stuck with a solid wood "Mjolnir" embarrasment

If my Mjolnir was constantly solid wood then I'd also go into a warrior madness mode. embarrasment

Manhattan is all inferred power. Doctor's on-panel feats pwn him. And I'm not even sure classic Ion would take my team. Thor's energy soak is beyond epic. Still, both at once would be a rough battle for my costumes, and it would take you 2 years.

It's been an expensive costume. Chuck Taylor's (not pictured, but he wears them), new glasses, the suit, etc. But I can wear everything outside of Halloween, so it's a decent investment. Only the Sonic Srewdriver is costume-specific.

I did the same thing with the bandages (but with an Invisible Man vibe rather than Hush) ... bought the stuff an hour before I was supposed to be at a party.
