there you have it...lucas finally says that SOME stormtroopers are indeed clones and that there are also inlisted people...

werd.

Tangible God
Well that's right homefry.

Ushgarak
Well, tha changes things! For the better, also.

Fishy
So Lucas has finally said what everybody with a brain already knew... It could not have been any other way.

amity75
That explains the American accents of the stormtroopers. "Hehehe another plot hole filled in!" cackled Lucas.

overlord
I couldn't care less if some were clones, doesn't change anything for me.

Weird that Lucas actually says that as when he wrote the first scripts there weren't of course, now suddenly he states this as some fact? I hope for you this isn't SS! nono stick out tongue

roughrider
I honestly never thought about it; as being that important anyway. I imagine by Luke's time, the challenge of having military forces stationed throughout the galaxy meant heavy recruiting; these guys would join The Empire because of the heavy propaganda, believing in The Imperial line of human superiority to non-human forms, having the type of personality to fit fascist dictatorships. Someone like Luke wanted to join up just to escape humdrum life on Tatooine, however. I could see clone forces gradually getting replaced by then.

Yup; it also explains some of the troop's idiotic shooting.

Ushgarak
The reason it needed stating so is because the best indication of GL's view that we had previously is that he thought they were all Clones, and we were kinda stuck with that. Him clearly specifying otherwise is handy for matters logical.

overlord
People actually thought they remained being cloned? The clones were just a quick way to get an army.. Then when there was a galactic dictatorship established Palpatine could do everything, even build more than giant death stars.

Ushgarak
SW Insider said that GL had said the stormtroopers were all Clones. That being the case, what people thought seemed neither here nor there. But a more direct reference from GL saying otherwise is handy.

overlord
Hmm.. That's pretty odd.

Red Superfly
It was pretty obvious they weren't all clones. And that God that it's now canon.

overlord
Still it proves that we shouldn't take it all too serious (all that canon sick ), there should be 'interpretation of your own' allowed. (my.. that's a weird way to formulate a sentense.. Damn..)

Ushgarak
We can only ever act with the information we have, you know.

overlord
Yes, if Lucas told us, the stormtroopers were actually all monkeys we would all be calling it canon! Hurray for canon!
And the force should be totally explained too doesn't it before we can talk about it?

BTW: Didn't we get to see at least some stormtroopers unmasked? Maybe when Solo and Skywalker steal some suits or something? (just suggesting something don't attack me)

Ushgarak
No no, what GL said according to Insider, was that all stormtroopers are Clones, but that by the time of the OT they were from many different templates. So they weren;t all Jangos.

And taking something to a ridiculous extreme like that is pointless. The fact is, we had indication that GL had decided on one way about the Clones, now we hav a better indication that it is the other. That a simple, rational and methoodical approach to discovering facts, that can only ever work on the best info we have available at the time.

overlord
I got that already, so what about my last post? Are there ever any stormtroopers unmasked in the movies? If so, the whole insider statement would have been stupid.

Ushgarak
Why? My point was answering that one.

Nick1989
Why are some of the stormtroopers so stupid?

WTH?

Because they are dumb nineteen year olds who thought war would be cool.

Ushgarak
That's not very helpful, Overlord. I was heading off your point in advance by saying the Clones came from different templates, so why would the Insider statement look stupid?

overlord
After many days I finally understand that by these templates you meant other people the stormtroopers were cloned off, so then it finally answers my question that it wouldn't matter if faces were shown.
Damn.. You're posts are like riddles to me with stuff like heading off my point and the methoodical discovery of facts wich sounds so special.

Anyway, GL would have probably stated it before if all stormtroopers are clones. He can't just reveal that little fact after more than 20 years just because he made up the clones to be in the empires forces in his new movie even if they are all wearing masks, so the statement is still not well thought of.

Lana
Hmmm....gotta say this is what I always figured, honestly....

Easy with that pic. Maybe some of them felt that they were serving their nation.

Ah, well, that's another thing, because he had.

In VERY early interviews, back in the Bantha Tracks days, he talked about how he had often visaged Boba Fett as the 'father' of the stormtroopers, and then much later talked of how he made it Jango instead- but in any case, he was making out at that point that Stormies were Clones too. It all tracked. It just seemed a little odd.

overlord
Hmm.. That's an interresting fact. It shows once more that GL rarely abandones his old idea's, he probably intended the clones to have something to do with the mandoloreans or something and Boba an old warrior who survived it all or something.
But father of stormtroopers that's a little bit strange.. In the whole OT people were talking about the clone wars like it was a finished galactic war in the past or something, they would probably have talked different about it if they knew people were still cloned. Ah.. It would go against everything SW anyway..

commander gree
WTF!? isnt all stormies clones

Tangible God
Not ALL of them, by ANH hope they had blended with regular recruits.

Tru_Slice
The loads of authorship Lucas saves by giving us ear candy...cheap ba$tard...

jollyjim311
It doesn't make sense that Ep. 4 Leia says that Luke is a little short to be a storm trooper. If there were people that were recruits then that wouldn't be weird to have varied heights. Maybe they were just starting to recruit military forces because of the first rebel victory, sound valid?

yerssot
there's a maximum height for British secret agents for instance. So why can't there be a minimum height for stormtroopers? with the idea: the bigger the trooper, the scarier he looks

rtm
I have a Hyperspace mag that shows the speech that palpatine gives when he is "elaborating on the plot of the jedi to overthrow the republic". In that speech he says that the clonetroopers will now carry the name of imperial stormtroopers. Also in these new release as to what I have read Lucas is voicing over all the stromtroopers voices with Tamuera Morrison's voice. So if that is true, then all stromtroopers are still being made from the same dna. Also I have looked at the specs of the stromtroopers such has height and origins and is says that stromtroopers like clone troopers are 1.83 meters in height. Which is about 6" somewhere around there and that they originated in Kamino. OK.. now here is the real reason why I think they are still jango's clones. During the time EP 4-6 were made Tamuera Morrison was like 10 yrs old or perhaps a little younger and of course could not make the voice. I don't think GL had even heard of the guy. So he is going back to change some stuff to reflect the prequals and that has been proven. I mean... he went back to change Bobba's voice. Well that's just my opinion. Still, I like the clone trooper's voice better that the ones he used for the stromtrooprs in the OT. It sounds more disciplined, it sounds cool so i hope he does change that.

overlord
Nope, stormtroopers aren't clones.

Darth Jello
i know it's non-canon, but didn't battlefront II explain that the kaminoans sabotaged the clones, which started fighting the empire, disobeying order 66 and protecting jedi? then vader came in with the 501st and wiped out the tainted clones before creating different, and worse clones?

Galactic Republic - Galactic Empire
Clone Troopers - Storm Troopers

The clue's in the name.

overlord
"lucas finally says that SOME stormtroopers are indeed clones"

Wow, I guess he must think that SW is real in that case because he sure as hell didn't know that before he made the new movies.
