My mom just got this tonight against my wishes (I would've rather spent the money on the MOVIE VALUE PASS) and got the online renting service from Blockbuster.Should this be an exciting this for me or should I dread having to wait for movies to come ? erm

ThaWhiteShadow
Its not bad, but Netflix is better.

Cinemaddiction
Naturally, I'm against all these lazy-ass "online rental" deals. I never knew the day would come where we as Americans think of it as a chore to drive to a video store down the street, as opposed to waiting to get some beat-up old disc that may or may not play, subject yourself to waiting lists for new releases, etc.

Hey, whatever floats your boat. Just an FYI, at Hollywood Video, for $9.99, you can rent as many movies as you want a month. 3 at a time, including select new releases.

Cringe
I know,I hate it.

I know about the MVP pass.I have that as well.

Myth
I hated mail renting too. I would rather have to pick them up that way I can rent what I want to see when I want to see it. Some nights you are in the mood for a comedy but by mail, you may get the action movie you wanted a couple nights ago. However, one thing that is drawing me closer to using rent by mail is gas prices.

Cringe
Then get three movie genres big grin

Action
Comedy
Porno no expression

Well I just booked my first three movies.Geuss i'll just have to wait and see how it turns out erm

We dont have the rental pass thing in the video shops in the UK, so online is the only option for unlimited rentals,

I agree sometimes you dont always get the new releases when they are released but you do get quite a few, recently I got Sin City, Palindromes, Mean Creek and a few others in the week they were released, also online rental can offer a wider choice of film, not available in a video shop. And also you dont have to go all the way to the shop you can do it from the comfort of your own home. ALso I have been a member for about a year and never once received a faulty disc, and you can turn the discs around in 3 days

Nevermind
Yeah, on-line renting sucks the big one. I love the experience of going into the video store.

I like being able to get new movies the day their released though erm

soon we will have something that automatically rent what you want a week before you think so when it arrives, you don't have to wait. lazy bastards, I love going to the store to get it(if it is close) I only hate the lines and sometimes they don't even have the movies...block buster never has the movies I want.

Most people dont do it because there lazy roll eyes (sarcastic). They do it because they think it's cool getting there movies sent to em no expression

I think the only thing I dont like about this is that I cant order the new releases before they comeout and get them the day they come out.

JKozzy
Seems pretty conveniant, and the selection would probably be better than Hollywood Video erm

Cringe
Yeah.Blockbusters inventory usually contains more videos than HV.

Still doesn't mean that I'm not a poor college student. I need to save every penny but I have a hard time living without my movies. It takes about 2 gallons for my car to get to my Blockbuster. I don't feel like paying $6 just on gas every trip for a movie rental.

MildPossession
Oh I know, I wasn't saying you were complaining or anything, just saying you are lucky not to pay our prices for petrol here! even if still expensive for you guys.

Cringe
Anyways.......

Cringe
Your mom hates our government no expression

On topic.

I felt like saying that but my line was funner to write.

Well, I've found that online DVD rentals are far superior to store-rented DVDs. Firstly because the DVDs themselves are much better looked after. About every second DVD I got from the video store was scratched to the bejeebus and wouldn't play all the way through which, needless to say, pissed me off.

Also, it's just so much easier to line up a whole bunch of DVDs on your queue and just let 'em come as they do... rather than going into the store every week and searching through the shelves.

And it works out much cheaper online as well. I only used to watch 2 or 3 DVDs a week, now I get through 5 to 8.

Cringe
I think im gonna try netflix if this one doesnt work out.Netflix looks like it has a better selection and I think your able to pre-order movies.

I dont really care about new releases, most mainstream ones are crap anyway, and you can get the more obscure new releases as not many people rent them, basically its all about the variety of films that online services offer. And it can work out at less than 50p per rental.

I have seen the future and its name is Garlic Bread.

Whats wrong with wanting to watch new releases again?I watch alot of old movies but I like watching the new stuff because most of its stuff I havent seen and want to see.

I would prefer the video store experience, but incredibly, do not have one within a 2 mile radius of my house and I don't have a car, so the Blockbuster thing works out pretty well. I always have movies showing up and have never had a problem. I find it pretty cool...

tabby999
i like going to the video store over chosing from the net, but the video store i go to dosn't have much money, so the updates are few and far between...

Cringe
Well I've been using it for a few weeks now and so far it's been ok.I dont like having to wait like four days for a movie though.

How long does "LONG WAIT" usually mean? This is whats listed under "Stewie Griffin:The Untold Story"

MildPossession
It takes four days for a film to reach you?

Cringe
Three or four erm

yeah, my roomate gets blockbuster now and it's sort of weak in terms of delivery time.

DeVi| D0do
Four days? I get my DVDs the day after I check the 'returned' box... And if I check the returned box a day before I actually return them, I can have up to six DVDs at a time (on a three DVD plan).

Cringe
I still have tot figure out all the kinks big grin

papabeard
My turnaround on dvd's is about 2 or 3 days, depending on when I post them.
