Rosa Parks showed courage and depth of character that will be sadly missed.

By the way, just out of respect, how about we spell her name correctly.

Sad, really...not one person, In whom's life she made a differance, has made any sort of statement.....

^^^^ white yuppies?

Thats racist.

Hulk Power
It's sad to know that such a strong woman in character and beliefs has passed away. She fought for the rights of everyone and now she's gone. She fought for everyone's rights and that is greatly appreciated. She will be greatly missed.

Rest In Peace Rosa Parks

MysteryRidah
Oh and btw, rosa parks seem to have a done alot, so see her soon.

Capt_Fantastic
Have my statements caused you to react...?

I didn't think so....

She was a heroine of equal rights...

And yet you morn her by doing nothing..........

Are you talking to me? or are you saying all white people have something against her?

I'm a little confused here, who are these yuppies that you speak of?

MysteryRidah
Well thats bad judgement. How would he know how one thinks or feel? Color / race has nothing to do with anything.

Joker1237
There is nothing I can relly say.

RIP. She was a important person in America history. And it help King start the bus boycott. And the rest is history.

How old was this broad? Damn, she'd have to be pushing 90 or something.

Oh, R.I.P

debbiejo
She lived just south of me.... big grin

xmarksthespot
92 according to google. Which is why I assumed she was already dead.

I don't think me saying R.I.P. is going to have any impact on her family, her cause or the world... but hey, since all the cool kids are doing it... R.I.P.

Indeed

PVS
but she has...well she SHOULD have an effect on us all.
today people look upon civil disobediance as "unamerican"
yet the greatest and most beneficial changes to 'civilised' man arises
from those who break the law when they follow a sense of what is right and FAIR.

I am proud of Rosa Parks because of what she did, I may be white, but I am proud of what she did because it changed the face of America. Imagine if that type of racial bigotry were still common. I've grown up in the world as it is today, I can't even begin to imagine how it must have been back then. It's actually quite sickening to know that our grandparents are the ones who participated in segregation, I know my grandfather still has issues with those of other races because that was how he and most of those in the first half of last century were raised.

And yes...I also thought she was already dead.

Did she ever do anything after not getting out of her bus seat?

Personally, I don't think she had the civil rights of all African Americans in mind; she was just tired.

It might be insensitive for me to ask this question, but did she do anything else with her life to help the Civil Rights cause?

I mean she is a symbol, no doubt, but I'm not sure i'm ready to treat her like a hero.

she acted through civil disobedience.
it wasnt as simple as not getting out of a bus seat.
she knew she would be arrested but still refused.

It was a tough call. There aren't many accessible bathrooms in the French Quarter, if you know what I mean. So I was rivaling a race horse. I had to make a tough decision. Running in the middle of the process seemed better than finishing and having to wizz again downtown an hour later.

For the Captain, actually the bellboy was a white woman.

Not really, KidRock just said that to get a rise outta people. That or he said that because he is a stupid, ignorant piece of crap whose lack of wit is only overshadowed by his complete lack of intelligence. Either way it is best ignored, like when an incontinent adult sh*ts their pants at a social gathering. We all know it smells, why draw more attention to it.

Frankly, I wouldn't care if she lived to be 200.

manny321
Yes she really only sat on a bus but at that time she had to give up her seat to a white guy. That lead to many things which changed society in many many ways. She was the inspiration for People who finally started fight for equal rights. She was the one that inspired the whole civil rights movement.

Really there are some people on this forum who think they are better then everyone. Also attack people who did something good in thier lives when they have not done one thing which comes even close.

I laugh at people like you. Let there be no misconception about my feelings on her actions. They were brave and they had a hand in changing America. I think she was fantastic. I think she was brilliant. One small act of diffiance turned into a continuation, with balls, of a movement. A decision by many members of a perseucted minority to get off their asses and make a difference in their own lives....rather than be the ****ing peasants and second class citizens life in this country implied.

You, and many like you, have no true respect for the brilliance...much less the sacrifice and guts, it took to do such a thing. When the time comes, are you willing to be beaten and jailed for yor convictions? I doubt it.

That's what bothers me about this thread. People with no balls proclaiming themselves to be sympathetic...no one needs your sympathy. Your action would be much more appreciated.

... maybe you'd like it better if she thrashed the police and hateful white people with her bag of groceries, did a backflip, and hovered in the air like Trinity from the Matrix.

... if you ever help to launch the true emancipation of a race by simply being yourself, you let me know. And I think it's sick for you to trivialize her contribution to human kind.

I wish Black America could be so luck to have a symbol like her today..... Someone who's willing to go to jail rather than be bullied and pushed aside. Our symbols today are symbols of success that Rosa Parks opened a door for. If our symbols today were half as strong, we'd have a much better definition of who we are and where we are going.

Ok, i'm right.

It's sick for me to trivialize a trivial act? She didn't do it for "human kind"; she did it because her legs were tired. I would be so lucky to make the news after I die for that. I don't think they give out medals to ladies who disobey police offers these days.

I asked a question, and as far as I know nobody has replied to it. Again, as far as I know Rosa Parks did not do anything to follow up on her triumphant sitting.

Parks unintentionally contributed to the Civil Rights movement and people treat her like some kind of idol (key word being unintentionally). Honestly, the only other thing I know she did was make a fuss over that Outkast song that was made in tribute to her.

How about getting behind someone who intentionally strives for equal rights to all people?

With that said, her civil disobediance was the spark that the Civil Rights movement needed. On the list of the great people who fought for these rights and dedicated their lives to them, Rosa Parks would probably be last. For me anyway.

I'm not a bigot or racist; far from it. People just need to work a little bit to garner my respect. (Not that they need to. I'm just some guy. Like Rosa parks was just some lady at the right place and the right time.)

I don't consider her a legend or anything.

No disrespect intended to her or any of the other thousands of dearly departed who left us today. R.I.P.

Should you feel that people arent allowed to partake in the awe of this change because of thier skin color.. thats just... stupid.. no expression

apparently he doesnt feel that way

Personally, I think he was stolen by one of my neighbors. Everyone was envious of my Krang. They all had the original version that came in his little chair thingy. Which I had. But, then, the 12 inch version of him inside his body was released. No one else had him. They were all jealous. So, when I say I "lost" him, I mean I was robbed of his presence in my life...

Sorry guys, I like to think I have a sense of humour as much as the next guy. But the fact that you are making such jokes in a thread dedicated to Rosa Parks (whatever the intent or sincerity of the person who created it or others who have posted in it) is kinda tacky.

Just had to give my two cents, I am prepared to be flamed.

Oh and I don't think she does mind to be honest ....

I agree there is alot of fake sympathy. However, I'd also lay off the nazi/racist talk as well. It's equally disrespectful.

I've always though of Rosa as someone with not only balls of brass, but as someone who thought that not only are some things just wrong, but that people have to say that they're wrong. That's where the courage lied.

Not only did she not give up her seat, but she worked with the NAACP, served on the staff of U.S. Representative John Conyers, established the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self-Development, and was presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1996 and a Congressional Gold Medal in 1999.

It was not one act of defiance that defined her, but the fact that she continued to try and make the world a better place.

Of course she's a very convinced person, and did a great deal to improve conditions and help the equality movement....and I respect that (I have to adit I only know the mainstream stuff aboot her) but come on now....this thread was stupid right the second 8 people jsut posted R.I.P. .....and if we derive some fun out of it, it will not make her any less a great person...and I personally don't think it's disrespectful...shallow comments and faked sympathy on the contrary are.....

Capt_Fantastic
I agree, but I'm sure she had a sense of humor as well.

KharmaDog
I agree that the R.I.P. statements were beyond the realm of lame. As I agree that shallow comments and fake sympathy are disrespectful as well as annoying. However, I also believe that some people's lives (very few indeed) are worth remembering.

This forum is filled with teenagers and many people so uniformed about the world that they hould not be allowed to walk the streets without a helmet never mind be allowed to graduate from a school. Therefore I think that this would be a good opportunity to educate some of these people who are posting R.I.P. yet have no clue about what they're commenting about rather than get into a competition in who can say either the dumbest or most offensive thing.

Look at me being all serious. But that's how I feel about the issue.

I had no idea that they moved the sign on her. Thanks for that link Bardock.

manny321
I like wikipedia. I can just go around the site, learning many new things on so many various topics.

She did not only sit on her bus. She was part of the movement. She does not have to be shot to be called a person who was involved in the civil rights movement.

Also notice Kidrock never responded to our question on how she is a criminal. Ignorance at its best. Calls himself American bad-ass and knows nothing about its history.

Curl_Up&Dye
I respect her not only for the fact that she fought civil rights, but that she was a woman taking action against injustices against her

You believe that my comments were shallow or the sympathy were fake?

Or you believe that my comment about the uniformed teenagers/people was dumb or offensive?

Now that one I would never argue with.

Capt_Fantastic
Kharma, sorry...didn't see your last post.

I'm saying it's contradictory because you expect a vast majority of this lot to offer anything except false sympathy.

I'm saying it's contradictory because you say "look at me being all serious"...when you yourself were the one who said we shouldn't be making jokes. So, you should stand by that. Perhaps it isn't a thread for jokes.

But, beyond that, how about she's laying in state beneathe the capitol dome?! WTF? Mr. President! What happened in New Orleans has happened!...can't change that. And letting her lay in state isn't going to make that huge **** up go away! If I was Mrs Parks, I'd be spinning in that coffin under the capitol.

And if I was black, I'd be insulted at such an insincere action.
