Has anyone been seeing this new looks that has been fastly growing in alot of younge people today? I call it "the wannabe gansta look" but I guess that's not really gair considering some of the people that sport this look may not be wanna-be's.I dont know. But have ya'll seen it? Of course you have.

It usually goes something like this.....

A long white t-shirt

Long baggy pants

Nike or any kind of shiny white shoes.

Wide-Brim cap or a hood along with a long hooded sweat-shirt.

I find it funny alot of times because I see the look so much. Its like everywhere I turn I see another dude dressing like gangsta. Anyone else seen or noticed this look?

You're making yourselves out to be slightly shallow by basing your opinion on what they wear. You've generalised entirely, and judged each person's character and personality on what clothes they feel comfortable in. Grow up.

Alpha Centauri
People who do it to fit into a "scene" and not because they want to, are really really stupid. They fact that they do that automatically shows that they're idiots, don't need to know them to know that.

Being a gangster isn't actually cool. I never understood what was cool about people who terrorise others.

tabby999
because they make money from looking tough i suppose. most of the underground Aus street fighters/standover men look up to prostitutes, they make a fortume quite easily, whereas the thugs have to stand over a shitload of people to make close to their money

When someone is constantly changing their wardrobe to fit the latest trend, it can accurately be said that they dont have much depth of character.

The True Fear
agreed

Cringe
Agreed too. I dont know what alot of girls see in them. You can usually find replicas of them on every street corner. There usually isnt anything unique or different about them.

There's two different ways to the topic people never bother looking at;

If these "artists" have any sort of ties to organized crime, given the lack of confidentiality in the entertainment industry, the FBI and CIA would know full well if they were involved. On top of that, I'm sure they're subjected to IRS audits, like a lot of big money holders, in which they'd have to provide a history of their current income and expenses, private holdings, CD's, etc, etc etc.

Second, all the flashy accessories you see these guys wearing? They're gifts. Most rappers can't afford shit. Is it any wonder that these guys are picked up, rap about "how it was" in the "hustle"? How it was, but how it isn't anymore. They don't live that lifestyle, because they don't need to, and they've long since put those people and those gangs behind them. There are a few that are loyal, i.e. 50 Cent, as fake as he may be, and Biggie, who always kept Bed-Stuy ties. These guys are made by the industry, so when they brag about having so many cars and what not, it's not on their dime until after YEARS of being in the game. Until then, they freeload.

None of them are pimps, either, considering prostitution is illegal in the US, except for Nevada. On top of that, when the hell does a platinum record artist have time to maintain a legitimate brothel. Please. These guys are nothing more than clones of a rags to ritches story with which too many black kids can relate to, and white kids want to adopt, because they never tried to be themselves in the first place, so they latch on to the most easily adoptable lifestyle outside of pop-punk, which is what we sadly refer to now as "hip hop". They weave some intricate stories about a failed past, and now that they're getting paid, like some reality television has-been to rhyme their life experiences over a computer generated beat to sell to people, regardless how many times they've heard the same lame ass story before. Then they get into being braggarts, and most totally ignore it.

Today's "hip hop" is a disgrace and a total bastardization of what it once stood for. Blurring the line between the two goes to show they don't know, and never knew what the lifestyle was all about.

Mark my words, rap would probably do just as well if these dorks rhymed nursery stories over a beat, because the message is always the same, not that anyone listens to these guys for their mastering of the English "slang-uage" and their articulation.

Ice T went from pimp and drug peddler to rapper/actor, i dont think he's stupid enough to keep his connections, but he was one of the guys who has the right to talk about having it tough and doing some of the shit new rappers talk about doing

Cinemaddiction
That's why Ice-T is the OG, and probably the greatest hardcore rapper ever. Pretty underrated, to boot. He's what Eazy E always wished to be, but never was.

My god. If everyone would just watch "CB-4" once in their lives, they'd be set straight.

Well said. But I don't even consider 50, Lil Jon, T.I., Mike Jones and the whole mainstream crew to be hip hop. It's really pop music only it's directed to wannabe gangsters(although it could be said that it isn't even music, since all 50 and all of his mainstream cronies do is mumble or shout incoherent lyrics).

Cinemaddiction
..and on that note, Hip-Hop is FAR from dead. While it's naturally going to progress, namely out of whole "message" era, which is what laid the foundation, Hip-Hop, like I've said so many times before is NOT on the radio.

For instance, I was listening to the new DangerDoom this afternoon. Like Doc reflects in his title and av, the track "Space Ho's" opens with a Space Ghost dialogue! It's fun music, theres no glorification of violence, no real sexually demeaning verbiage, etc. It's fun music, with guys that can rhyme words you could never imagine, and they never really take themselves seriously, while they are STILL incredibly talented with word play. Best of all, they'd probably PREFER respect over money any goddamn day.

If I had to define Hip Hop today, I'd rather it be defined by guys that can write their own crazy lyrics, speak them in ways that are otherwise unfathomable, on topics as silly as Space Ghost, then to call it what everyone ELSE thinks it is, which is "expression".

It's not expression, it's capitalism in the music industry. It's a quick buck and a few nice paydays for some other joker who happened to have a rough childhood, and a marketable image, either before or after he was signed. It's a template by which kids can take a piece of, make it their own, and associate with it, while they're still as fake as the emcees that put it out there.

No, Easy E was hardcore to the max, trust me

Cinemaddiction
Eazy E was not at all hardcore. His legacy was that of being for peace. Ever hear the NWA track "We're All the Same Gang"? Alrighty then. He got lumped in the whole gangster mentality with the rest of NWA. Meanwhile, Eric Wright was pretty much a walking contradiction. A studio gangster. He had good intentions, the likes of which eventually got across once he went solo, but in the background, he played a role that the industry made him fill. Shit, he ended up making fun of HIMSELF on NWA's last records. He knew what was up, he wasn't stupid.

Dre even outed all of NWA after leaving, Eazy in particular;

Like I said. Watch "CB-4" and it will clear everything up. It even parodies this whole "gangsta look" everyone's hung up on.

That album Straight Outta Compton with the song "F*&* the police" by N.W.A (Niggaz With Attitude) (which had ice cube) was the start of all the gangster rap and culture. Then it was further popularized by Tupac. However these two groups made songs that meant anything. That album started the whole genre.

I stoped listening to rap a while ago. Last rap song i really liked was 50 cents extremely popular In Da Club. Do you know that "In Da Club" is one of the most listened to songs in the history of radio. During the second week of March 2003, Arbitron radio ratings estimated that at some point during that week, 200 million people had listened to some or all of the song.

Stupid gangsta style. Don't they know how dangerous it is? The could get mowed down in a drive by, but more importanly those clothes are fire hazards. They should be sprayed with those hoses that they turn on rioters in order to mitigate the chance they catch on fire and all those artificial fabrics melt onto there skin, branding them for the rest of the lives (as the tossers they are.)

I guess it's because i'm usually around normal people who want to make a future out of their lives instead trying to be all "gangsta" and hard. Have your so called gangsta against a wrestler or football player then we'll see what yo gangsta is all about... really if ur such a gangsta why are you wasting your time on this forum.. Go do your gangsta stuff like rappin and what ever it is yall do...

1. I dont rap, i got a future. IM a hispanic gangsta. I dont know how yall roll

2. Im a soccer player and wanna become one. Im a gangsta cause i express the type of person i am.

I don't actually dislike people for wearing the "gangsta clothes", but the way they act because they put them on. I mean, sure, there's nothing really wrong wearing loose clothing and stuff, but acting tough/dirty/cool/from da hood etc. just because you wear it is stupid. So sure, little white boy, wear your chains and your caps and your over-sized pants, but if you try and 'cut me up' with your 'shiv', you're just asking for an ass-kicking (not directed to anyone here, but to any wannabe gangstas who happen to be passing by)

Anyone else seen or noticed this look?

but whatever, i just hope someday soon you grow out of this phase where you play 'pretend' and work on bettering yourself rather than lowering yourself.

I can't believe you didn't know that gangstas carried laptops with them nowadays. After a drive-by, they can easily update the database right on the spot.

Really i'm from cali too! but i'm in canada right now... i know a gangsta when i see one but in this case i can't...btw what would a gangsta be doing on a internet forum?

AdventChild
well it's their style.... but we stereotype it to a particular group..in this case gangstas... just because people wear this type of clothing doesn't make them a gangsta just like preps wearing prepy clothing doesn't make them rights or guys wearing tight shirts doesn't make them built.... but in this case jacopex is claiming to be a gangsta when we clearly see he's not considering he's trying to hard to impress us and prove that he is...1. a gangsta is a person that has grown through poverty (in the hood), has nothing is a badass, will defenitly kill, steals, and most of the time carries a gun...I doubt that jacopex does any of this stuff considering he plays soccer and travels though the country.

JacopeX
im a gangsta shomie. You dont know one

ok your'e done...I'm sure we're not first and i certainly know we're not going to be the last. You people acting like that should do something with your lives as you are playing soccer so i respect that, but you say that you're a gangsta isn't helping very much. If you continue to represent yourself that way you are going to have trouble in the real world getting a job. Personally i think you should do what you want to do or claim what you want to claim but i give you this advice.. Don't act that way when you go for a job interview and try speaking proper english not to mention that it'll help if you said yes ma'am and sir. but do what you want as will i...

I'm not sure what you're saying...are you saying you do fix your grammar, or are you asking if your grammar is correct?

Anyways, lets get rid of some of this argueing by defining 'gangsta'.

According to crazylozer's unabridged dictionary....

gangsta (gang-stah): originating from the Italian mob's 'gangster'. Generally from impoverished communities, prone to violent crime and/or use of illegal narcotics and/or thinking of women as sexual objects rather than people.

Any other definitions?
