It appears they are explaining why Colossus goes into his rage mode.

You don't need the miniseries to know why his life sucks. . . look at his past and his family history. . .

has the mini-series made any mention of mikhail or illyana, or is it just some asinine tale of his past/extended family/something in russia?

Mikhail is still alive!

He is working with Sinister for some unknown reason. I would not be surprised it Illyana shows up sometime.

mikhail never does a great job working by himself...

i'm gonna have to go pick this up now... goddamnit.
