I need help with multiplying & division of fractions, stat.
Wolflet
Sorry my head hurts
mattador
(hell) No thank you.
Commando Queen
I dunno;.. im trying to get linear equasions down
Ms Flower
give me a sample and Ill see what i can do
JToTheP
dammit...where are all my nerd friends?
two cities 2 1/4 inches apart. If 1/4 inch on the map represents 50 miles, what is the number of miles in the distance between the two cities?
Commando Queen
holy shit.. i think my brain just exploded

lol.. i hate math with a passion.. like i said were working on linear equasions that means we gotta figure out
y=Mx+b with a pair of coordnets.. uber confusing
Dr. Strangelove
50 X 5= 250 miles
I'm pretty sure this is right.
ben_dover
Oh please, no one has time to explain 2nd grade math to you. Use this source below to understand basics of fractions.
OMG, Simple math!!!

How did you get 50x 5?
He has 2 and 1/4 inches.
1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 = 1 inch.
2 inches = ^ *2 = 8
plus the extra 1/4 = 9
So..it should be 50 x 9?
mattador
Im outta here, lol.
Commando Queen
same here.. my brain hurts enough

1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 = 1
^.......^.......^.....^.....^
50 + 50 + 50 + 50 = 200
1 + 1 = 2
^....^....^
200 200 400
Sooo.....if 1 is 200 and 1/4 is 50.....then 2 1/4 will be...
450!!!
Gosh....

450 miles
Raven Guardia
I got 450 also.
2 1/4 and every 1/4= 50
1/4= 50
split the two miles into 1/4's there are 8 of them because there is 4 quartes in a whole. there for 50+50 eight times =400 plus the 1/4 that was given equals 450 miles.

**** that
Spearhead
So many ways to get the same answer
2 1/4 = 9/4... 1/4=50...9*50=450
that's the most difficult math I've done this year...

You might need a proper solutions, perhaps.
Using the formula:
Actual distance (Da) = Map distance (Dm) x Scale distance (Ds)
Find Da, if
Dm = 2 1/4 = 2.25 in
Ds = 50 mi per 1/4 in = 200 mi/in
Solution:
Da = (Dm)(Ds)
Da = (2.25 in)(200 mi/in) ; inch unit cancelled out
Da = 450 mi
silver_tears
we've established that one
Jury
I know. But i am showing the proper solution.
Spearhead
proper, shmoper...
silver_tears
gah
bring on the next one
Jury
What is 8 raised to 1/3 power?
silver_tears
I'm an advanced calculus babe
Jury
oh ok. i am an advanced engineering math.
Spearhead
ooh, I would've gotten that one...had I been paying attention.
Bleh, you two are way ahead of me, math wise
Jury
that's ok, jere-dude.

University math sucks ass disgust
