If I recall, the Wookiees were being tempted to join the Separatists. Might have had something to do with that, story wise. Making the movie wise...a reason for Yoda to leave Coruscant, and a reason to show Chewbacca.

Go check the Vader and Luke versus Dooku thread in Versus. He basically argued that we can't use movie fight scenes because they are inconsistant. I guess that means that movie canon is false.
