When the Emperor kicked the bucket, he exploded in bright blue energy, cuz he's a Sith Lord, a'ight? So why didn't Maul or Dooku follow suit?

My bad if this shit has been done before--I searched and I never found a thread like this.

Because Star Wars ain't Powerrangers.

Morridini
Well was that he who exploded or the engine (or whatever) that Vader threw him into? All his lightning must have hit something sensitive down there.

Jedi Priestess
laughing that wasnt Sids exploding that caused that light. hysterical

damn I must have laughed a good 10 minutes about this

laughing out loud the thought crossed my mind when i typed that

If you read the books, there are several cases of evil Jedi/Sith exploding in bright blue energy. Sidious wasn't an isolated case and it wasn't just due to the reactor.

"Why didn't Lord Maul or Tyrannus explode when they died?" No idea.

PVS
the books are EU and the authors simply translate to what they thought happened in the films. it seemed in rotj that palps exploded, so they went with that. im sure the books are cool, but not reliable at all in a debate on canon.

darthvader_fan
AGREED

Council#13
the question isnt "why didnt maul or tyrannus explode" but "why did sidious explode". and to answer this ridiculous question, he hit something causing that thing he hit to explode (he hit it with sith lightning)

Much like there are countless references to characters that are the children of Jedi because writers assumed that if Anakin had kids all Jedi could do that. And the references to an old pre-clone war Republic battle fleet, whereas no such thing existed because the Republic had no army. And the fact that The Clone Wars were constantly referred to as if they had taken place 50-60 years before instead of 20-30. And the suggestion that it would take at most 2 years to get proper clone soldiers rather than some 10 years until they were ready that is implied in Attack of the Clones.... So much for that.

He fell into the reactor core of the Death Star 2, but oh alright. I guess you just weren't paying attention. Pay more attention next time.

According to the Return of the Jedi novel he exploded in evil dark-side energy. So he coulda fell in a sewer and still exploded. Do your research before you talk shit.

PVS
look, i'd bet the farm that lucas had it in his head that palps exploded when making rotj. but thats not the case anymore. the fat man changed his mind and such is star wars.

According to a novel Obi-Wan had a brother with the last name of Lars that lived on Tatooine. Moral of the story: dont believe everything you read.

is this thread still going???

How do you know "brother" was meant to be taken literally? But a person's death accompanied by blue energy with wind-like properties is just a tad supernatural. Don't ya think?

maybe we should throw you into a reactor core and see what happens.

Obi-Wan deliberately says "Your Uncle was my brother." That's to be taken as literally as possible, methinks. Not true, though. He's Anakin's step-brother, not Obi-Wan's brother.

I think it has to do with the Dark Side of the Force, manifested by his lightning, striking everything as he goes down the shaft. His lightning ****s up a few things, goes into the reactor core, windy whispy boom. It's not Palpatine combusting, I don't think.

Darth Jello
maybe his fear caught up to him and he farted on the reactor plasma, creating a volatile explosion.

It's a simple reason why Palpatine (as you call it) explodedlaughing out loud

Tyranus and Maul were not even in the same league as Palpatine, and i guess ALL the great Sith Lords just went out in a.........big way, lolno expression

also i think that certain scene was just to show all the evil releasing from his body

chinabing
Whenever I watch Lando fly the Falcon into the core, I keep looking for the Emperor's body on all those pipes.

Yeah, I agree with that. Normally I believe EU should not be disregarded, but this time, yes the PT movies view (not all evil Force-users blow up) does feel more right

Another possible 'explanation' could be that only the most powerful Sith explode.

"But a person's death accompanied by blue energy with wind-like properties is just a tad supernatural. Don't ya think?"

No offence, but Star Wars has always involved the supernatural.

yeah, maybe.....

SpyCspider
dont' ya love how the PT tried to explain so many things? First, midichlorians, then origin of 3-PO, etc? Whatever happened to suspension of disbelief with the OT?

When I watched ROTJ for the first time, I thought the Emperor, I mean "Darth Sidious" fell into the abyss and released all his evil energies, along with energies from the reactor, etc. I thought Yoda was Obi-Wan's only mentor. I thought Vader was older than 40s. I didn't know this "ancient religion" that Jedi practiced was....only destroyed 20 years ago, hence making it "ancient" (??)

Or the fact that there were more DArths. In the OT, only Obi-Wan called Vader, Darth. As if Darth was his first name. I don't recall any of PT Jedi calling Maul or Tyrannus, "Darth."

I hope I'm not the only one who felt the "magic" was lost when the PT were made and tried to "explain" things.

queeq
Lucas changed his mind several times during the last 30 years.... a lot of times I think. And then he says: great films are not finished but abandoned... Yeah, sure.

That's my take on it... I really do think Palpatine exploded in ROTJ releasing his evil energies.

The reasoning is kind of simple when you think about it.

In the OT, when the Jedi died, they went peacefully, disappearing and becoming one with the Force.

When Sidious died, he refused to "let go" and fought it all the way, going out in a violent, explosive manner, completely gone from existence.

This parallels the way he transformed when he was zapping Mace... I sincerely believe his evil energies were finally being released and were destroying his body.

So why did Maul and Dooku not explode? They weren't nearly as evil as Palpatine... he was PURE unredeemable evil... a Sith Master even!

You might could make an argument that this happened in a limited way to Maul... remember when Obi-Wan sliced him in half and for a brief instance you see a red flash? Some people think that was blood. But you never see that happen when anyone else gets sliced. wink

Darth Jello
i still say the fart theory is the most plausable. ocham's razor, people!!!

overlord
OMG! I thought this thread would be over like lightspeed but it seems it is turning into a big discussion!

Ballister
Actually, I think that Palpatine's lightning may have interfered with the reactor's energy, making this big kerploding thingy. Just a theory. Or maybe his body interfered with the reactor's energy making a big kerploding thingy. Either explanation is good enough for me.

"Ancient" does not imply that it has been abolished for centuries. Judaism and Zoroastrianism are ancient religions, but they're still being practiced by people all over. The Jedi were thousands of years old. Hence, ancient.

Why didn't I explode after reading this thread.. bored

Maybe it's 'cause Palpatine just dropping out of sight wouldn't look good on screen, and Maul exploding would look stupid.

And Dooku just dropped to the ground. I mean c'mon.

Maul didn't explode cos they only showed him fall for a few secs. He exploded cos o' the reactor core.

Ballister
He's right. stupid

Darth Orcus
...And Dooku/Tyranus/whatever exploded when the half of "The Invisible Hand" his body was on exploded upon re-entry into Coruscant's atmosphere...

Addendum: I also explode whenever I sit on the toilet to do a big job...

Happy Dance

overlord
It would've been mega gay to see Dooku's lifeless body fall to the ground and then see it explode.
Then of course his head is still lying somewhere and that one becomes a bomb.

Damn.. This post and the thread likewise was utterly useless.. erm
