I have a friend who has this bizarre fascination with Spam. She even did a school report on it once. There's something intriguing about canned meat substitute.

we make spam sandwiches, too, but we use low-salt spam. If it's still too salty, could put the spam in water and bring to a boil to draw out some of the salt, before slicing and saute-ing in the fry pan with eggs.

spam is survival food; comes in small enough containers, so there shouldn't be any leftovers if there's no fridge around to keep it cold.
