I would have said The Godfather, it was really good, but I fell asleep near the end and forgot most of it, so i am not going to count it.

otherwise it HAS to be

Road To Perdition

Goodfellas for me

Abel Ferrara's The Funeral is one of my favourites, excellent film.

Ya Krunk'd Floo
Oh, fo' shoo...It's gotta be 'Goodfellas'. Swiftly followed by 'The Godfather' trilogy with something a little more obscure like 'Miller's Crossing' bringing up the ass. 'Road To Perdition' is good, but it can't hold a candle in the wind to the ones I mentioned. Fair praise should also go to 'Donnie Brasco' and 'The Untouchables' for sheer watchability...

Dagons Blade
There's a great little movie that's about 3 hours long called Once Upon A Time In America directed by Sergio Leone back in or around 1980 or so. It starred Robert DeNiro and James Woods in a film spanning the 50+ year love\hate relationship between the two as seen from their early days as kids to their rise in the Jewish. One hell of a movie. Also starts Olga Karlatos (the eye splinter girl in Fulci's Zombie) as a theatre girl.

Solo
"Once Upon a Time in America" is decent, the director's cut is so much better.

I'd have to go with "The Godfather".

"Neck, calling Mando...Come in please! Neck, calling Mando...Come in please!"

If a movie has gangsters AND covert plans, let's call it 'mafia'. 'Carlito's Way' is da bomb, too...

The FULL dictionary definition for those interested in stuffing their heads up their asses...

Head up my rectum? Oh, that's me! Yes, please...

Yeah the director's cut was great. Saw it on cable once.

EDIT: by the way, any of you ever seen a Japanese movie called "Tokyo Drifter" ? It's a 1967 film by Seijun Suzuki, and it tells the story of a guy named Viper Tetsu who finds himself on the wrong side of the fence when he's betrayed. Loads of style and a very catchy theme song that epitomizes the 60's gangster flick.
HIGHLY recommemded.

Quiero Mota
Good Fellas! Orale! Ray, Robert, and Joe tore it up, ey!

Has anyone seen American Me with Edward James Olmos?

DiamondBullets
Definately "Witness to the Mob" for me. "Mickey Blues Eyes" is another favorite. I've seen "American Me", it's a good flick about Latino gangsters in L.A. in the 1950's. It seemed more like a mafia movie, as opposed to your typical gang-banger flick. But instead of Italian they speak Spanish, instead of tuxedos they wear zoot suits, and instead of tommy guns they favor sawed-off shottys.

Ya Krunk'd Floo
Oooo, nearly forgot about the 'Infernal Affairs' trilogy. The first one is exellent, the second is good and the third is fine. Overall, a good trilogy though.

FistOfThe North
Goodfellas, handsdown. And whatever next best mob flik is a distant 2nd. Im talking miles.

MildPossession
Oooo I enjoyed that trilogy a lot. Pity that it's getting a remake.

bksdrums
Goodfellas is my favorite. I also liked Casino. I wouldn't count Scarface as a mafia movie unless you are talking about the original Scarface. I really wouldn't count Resevoir Dogs either because that was like a one time job

MysteryRidah
Scarface gets my vote.

Scarface with Al Pacino? If so that wasn't a mafia movie. He was more of a lone drug-king pin. He does mention the mafia in the movie when he goes :

"Guinies. Mob Guys. I don trust 'em."

I'll give a good 5 stars or so to Goodfellas. The "Am I A Clown" scene with Joe Pesci was really funny. he played such a psycho in that movie. That was a crowning moment in wiseguy history smile

Bushwacker
The Untouchables. The scene with Robert DeNiro and the baseball bat was classic.

Yeah that was quite disturbing. The other great scenes are when Mallone (Sean Connery) has the one gangster cornered in his home with a sawed off shotgun and tells him that it's typical for a "w*p to bring a knife to a gunfight" and the one scene where Ness drops Frank Nitti off the side of the building. Some great performances.

I had one major problem with The Untouchables. The soundtrack. When they were starting to get in a gun fight they didn't play suspenseful or gun fighting music. It was music as if victory was already achieved and made the fights seem pointless.

That movie was way too toned down for me. Don't get me wrong, I still liked it.

Gotti is such a great Mafia movie. That would probably be at the top of my list. Witness to the Mob was basically the flipside of the movie Gotti.

A wonderful 4-hour masterpiece. This is an excellent epic film and it showcases not only incredibly storytelling but also one of De Niro's understate performances. The last shot is a movie marvel and I'm always moved by it.

There are too many mafia movies to decide on favorites. The Godfather and Goodfellas are classics of course. One thing I've never understood is why Scarface is so well-viewed by so many. It was hard enough to watch it for the first time, and every time I see a clip of it I see great actors in a 3 hour (it should be 2) waste of time with no character development and a pretty average story.

Impediment
Goodfellas handsdown. Reservoir Dogs is a CLASSIC film, which I hold in the highest regards, but I wouldnt necessarily call it a "mafia" flick. Now calling it a crime/heist flick? Hell yes. When I think of mafia, I think "family" and "generations" and shit like that, hence Goodfellas. RD seemes too muck like a gangster heist flick gone horribly wrong because of the rat in the group type of film.
