Now that you've seen all six. What do you think the story as a whole is about? I was under the impression it was to do with the struggle between good over evil. But in the end I changed my decision to the popular belief of Anakin's struggle. Although Anakin's struggle may be considered, infact may be a personification of good versus evil I like to differentiate the two.

However, I also belief it's got a sperate meaning of redemption from within the darkness. This is clearly shown in Return of the Jedi, however it did take Darth Vader many years to realise this.

I would like to hear your views on this.

Cheers

For a moderator you sure do try your hardest to stop non sensible posts.

laughing out loud

i've always seen Star Wars as a movie that tell's the story of a family, and there struggles with many different issues that normal families sometime's go through - and not just the Skywalkers, but also the Fett's. There are many father/son relationships in Star Wars that probably did relate to George Lucas growing up as a child

aggreed stun

totally takes my answer

Sesse
It was about colorful swords and fast action spiced with magical powers.

SpyCspider
OT = about Luke (c'mon...don't deny how obvious that was)

PT = about Anakin's rise and fall

PT + OT = about Anakin's rise and fall

Seriously, when you were watching the OT, you didn't think the story focused on Darth Vader did you? It was a simple story of Luke's growth and good vs. evil. Then when fans actually started to love Star Wars, Lucas decided it was going to be about Anakin's rise, fall, redemption. Don't look too much into it.

overlord
The story was about bad sith taking over in the ultimate degree and then getting killed.
Oh, yeah.. And hot princesses to be rescuied!

Adamwankenobi

seriously.

Anakin. That is what Star Wars is about. His rise, fall, and redemption or repentence.

It only takes a single ray of light to shine through the darkness.

Star Wars is a tale about how a good person turns bad, and is redeemed by his son.

Gut-wrenching paranoia.

I mean, any second, your planet couldjust blow up.

Family and Galactic politics driven by strong beliefs and greed

spekdah
seriously though, if you want to analyze the saga to find meaning you need to define what the main pivotal moments of the story were.

Good luck

Yeah, it really is just that. I used to think it was a bit deeper than that but alas, George is not the genius I thought he was...

Ushgarak
Why does that make him not a genius? That's exactly what he set out to do. He's done deep meanings in other films (like THX-1138).

I think by any reasonable mark of genius, he has achieved with SW.

exanda kane
Your over analysing if your saying that Star Wars is about family affairs and politics; its Star Wars, is about an evil villain versus a young hero - throw in some flashy lightsaber fights and there you have it.

overlord
Yeah, I don't think Lucas even thought about Vader redeeming himself after someone made up that it would be fun perhaps if Vader were actually Luke's father.
It was intentionally just a basic hero/villain story with nine episodes(!)
Lucas is just lucky about how SW turned out to be..

If you read his original scripts with dialogue, you'll realise that he is actually a very cheesy writer. No matter how interesting, just check out the original ROTJ ending and see for yourself.

A link please Overlord? and i can see these scripts you refer to alot...

Revenge of the jedi! laughing

The scripts are all pretty easily found. They can take a couple of nights to read through but they're pretty interesting and will give at least some insight to SW.

I for one think they should have actually done the first version.
Too bad Coruscant was too hard for them to make back then..

exanda kane
Thanks big grin

And I for one prefer the name Coruscant to Had Abbadon...

cool pics overlord love it

((The_Anomaly))
Intresting. That script was very intresting.

One cool thing is this part.

"Luke looks at his father, then reaches out and Vader's lasersword leaps off the Dark Lord's belt and into the young Jedi's hand. Luke ignites the lasersword as the Emperor pulls a sword out of his sleeve and tosses it to Vader."

I just thought it was cool that GL had always wanted Palpatine's Lightsaber to be in his sleeve like it was in Eps III.

Very cool. But it is odd...thats for sure.

Lucas said, It was a charater study of the fall of Anakin~
