Name any comic character, then say who you think was the artist that drew them best. Either just pencilled, or fully illustrated. Add a picture, if you feel like.

I'll start.

Shazam/Captain Marvel - Alex Ross

Blair Wind
any DC character- Micheal Turner....

Batman- Jim Lee

Wolverine - John Byrne

Lots of great artists, but I'd have to say Ross is my favorite.

So who would you say Ross draws better than anyone?

DarkCrawler
I would say Superman.

roughrider
The Silver Surfer - George Perez

Mindship
Silver Surfer: Jack Kirby...

...despite his lousy knowledge of anatomy. There was an inherent Power to his figures that (IMO) even Ross doesnt capture, for all the "life-likeness" of his works.

But Iron Man sucks By Bagley. He looks fat in that suit.

Uh, everyone - maybe I'm wrong, but Stan Lee is a writer only. He has never drawn a comic. Put him in the thread for definitive writer.

I see a lot of responses seem to list a character's very recent artist. Do enough people look back some decades to previous work? For all the dozens of artists Wolverine has had for 30 years, I still say John Byrne drew him best, 26 years ago.

Agreed, Alex Ross is in a league of his own artistically.
After him I like Perez, then Jim Lee probably.

Writers of course, Alan Moore, Wolfman, Millar... Johns had a really good JSA run. Gaiman. Ostrander.

Agreed Morrison, Geffen, Ennis and Bendis also turn it on as writers sometimes. As did Layton and Shooter.

Byrne may be mad but he does both brilliantly sometimes.

Validus
Superman and Namor are the only people I think Ross does better than anyone. Maybe Barry Allen as well. I still can't get over how unattractive his women usually are.

Spideys Sister
Did anyone see Alex Ross' idea for Spideys costume? It was in the first movie game. Not to bad. thumb up

One of the best artist to ever capture the evilness and sinister image of The Joker is Jim Aparo.

Amanda Conner - that was the artist.

She manages to give Power Girl just the right touch of sexy bimbo appeal. wink

roughrider
For Daredevil, names like Frank Miller and Alex Maleev come to mind very strongly...
...but in the end, I'll pick David Mazzucchelli.

roughrider
Terry Dodson just might draw the best Wonder Woman of all - even better than George Perez or Phil Jimenez.

Now, if they could only publish her book on a regular basis...
