Welcome to the Spawn Feats, Features and Respect thread. I decided a long long time ago to go to through this lengthy ordeal, because as it happens, Spawn is one of my favorite comic book characters (if not THE most fav.) . It really hurt a while ago when the forum was plagued by a guy called Spawnrules to see how ignorant some people are, not only the fanboy, but also people that simply don?t know and don?t care to find out about Spawn.
Anyway, this thread is going to contain pictures, coupled with details, coupled with issue numbers, just so people don?t think I?m being selective or anything.
Before I start, I?m going to explain how this thread works. I?m going to break the feats up into three categories.
You see, there are three major timelines in the history of the Spawn character.

From issue #1 to issue # 100 (Milestone Spawn kills Malebolgia)
From issue #101 to issue # 120 (A Season in Hell4 Cogliostro becomes the new ruler of Malebolge, the eighth layer of Hell)
From issue # 121 to now.

I call them the first age, the second age and the third age, and I might use these denominations later on in order to make sure people are aware of what?s going on. What IS going on? Well, I?ve taken the time to break the feats up into these three separate timelines because of a few reasons.

During the first age, Spawn?s feats are numerous, but only as a consequence of there being 100 issues in it. Other than that, there aren?t as many as you may think. That?s not it though. The feats aren?t as good as the ones in the other period. Why is this? Because:
Spawn makes a deal with Malebolgia. He gets the spawn powers and acts as a tool for Malebolgia and in return he gets to see his wife again. Thing is he gets screwed by Malebolgia, cause when he is returned to earth, it?s been 5 years since he died and his wife not only got remarried (to his best friend), but has also had a baby. Anyway. The deal is that when Spawn returns to Hell he will be a mindless drone working for Malebolgia in the army against Heaven. Spawn doesn?t want that. There are two ways in which Spawn will be returned to Hell:

1. He gets killed.
2. He uses up his power reserve. See, Malebolgia gave him great power, and he was not only able to use it, but encouraged to do so, because Malebolgia wanted him to come back to Hell.

So now take these things into consideration:

1. You?ve just been returned to Earth after having been killed. Memories are hazy, etc. etc. You know you have awesome powers, but you don?t know what they are. You could hang around and try to find out by using them, but by using them you condemn yourself.
2. You eventually find out some scope of your powers, but if you use them to their full potential you are condemned.
3. You are so confused that you can?t even comprehend the full scope of your powers.

So that?s the deal with the first age. The feats are rare and not so very impressing. Spawn was a confused character, that didn?t know his full powers, didn?t know how to use his neural symbiote costume properly, and even if he did, it would drain him and therefore condemn him.

During the second age, after Spawn kills Malebolgia, his feats may be few in number, but they?re a lot more wicked. He begins to comprehend the scope of his powers, he gains some new powers, and the whole ?Can?t spend too much? thing is gone, seeing as how he?s killed the guy he didn?t want to serve. This period of time is the one where he has some of his cooler feats, the ones where he lets loose and doesn?t stop.

The third age is pretty much going back to the first age. Everything becomes a hell of a lot more challenging.
During the first and the second age, Spawn?s ?body? on Earth is a thing made up of necroplasm, the ?matter? that makes up hell. His real body, that of Al Simmons is buried in the grave. Being made up of necroplasm, Spawn was pretty much impossible to kill. Only through decapitation (which was incredibly hard to do) or through the powers of heaven focused in an angel hunter?s lance. Those were the only way to kill him.
In the third age however, Cogliostro, aka Cain, the first killer, becomes the new ruler of Malebolgia. He decides to send Spawn back into the world, only this time with his human body. He still has access to his powers and the neural symbiote suit, but underneath it all he has a human body. It?s kind of like he used to be Deadpool (regenerative abilities taken into consideration), but now he?s a human that can turn into deadpool, and if he turns back he suffers all the injuries full force.
This means that he?s a LOT more cautious not to get his ass kicked, because it would mean death. However, the stacks get higher and higher. Everything is harder to beat, and so on, he gets injured more and more often. Not only that, but his powers aren?t quite as formidable as they were back in the second age or in the first age. He has more versatility, but a LOT less raw power.

So now, let?s get to it???time for some Spawn respect

The First Age

Issue #1:
After throwing a bad guy around like he was a rag doll, Spawn lifts a finger and creates a single spark of necroplasm energy. It explodes on impact with the bad guy?s glasses. You can see the BOOM in the scan. That was just a spark. Imagine a full on beam of that stuff.

Issue #2:
Spawn has just found out he has powers. He has no idea what scope of abilities he has. He wishes to become human in appearance, and it happens. Metamorphosis of appearance . The real ***** is that it turns him into a white guy.

First fight with the Violator. Now, remember?the violator is one of the Phlebiac brothers, some of the strongest demons in Malebolge. Needless to say, Violator, as goofy and dumb as he may appear is not only extremely intelligent, but also incredibly powerful. Also, this is the third issue. Spawn?s just beginning to get a glimpse of what?s happening.

Issue #5:

Nothing too interesting here. This however is the first issue where Spawn kills someone (and loves it). He kills a pedophile and child murderer named Billy Kincaid then leaves him as a present in a police precinct.

Issue #6:

This is where Spawn fights Overt Kill for the first time. Overt Kill is a cyborg. The strongest one around actually. Bullets and tank shells don?t even phase him, and he?s enormously powerful.

Their HQ?s defenses are supposed to be unbreakable. But??whaddya know?.Spawnie breaks em. After that he teleports himself and Chapel (multiple person teleportation) 8.000 miles away. Issue #14:

Nothing very interesting feat-wise here. But it does show a battle between the Violator and another Hellspawn from the dark ages. Keep in mind that this spawn (al simmons) is much more powerful. The words are the violator?s lies about what happened. The images show exactly what happened.

Just as Spawn died, the army nuked a certain spot. It opened a rift to Hell. The raw psychoplasm was shaped and given form by Spawn. It transformed the entire area into a town called ?simmonsville? that contained all the places Spawn knew from his childhood and such. With the help of psychoplasm, Spawn can alter matter on this impressive level. GLs, eat yer heart out

Issue #17:

Jason Wynn is transported to Heaven and transformed into the Anti-Spawn. His body is turned into a vessel for the holy essence of heaven, Heavenly Fire. This Heavenly Fire pretty much destroys anything and everything it comes into contact with. Normal matter goes boom. Anything remotely connected to Hell (like Spawn) doesn?t get it that easy. It?s a lot more painful for them.

This is pretty weird. Spawn dominates the fight, winning and all. However, he still doesn?t use his powers, just his fighting prowess and his suit. In the end it says Spawn still needs to breathe. Issue #73:

Remember how that guy got a little bag of Spawn?s Necroplasm? Well, this guy gets killed/gutted. The necroplasm comes ?alive? and crawls over to his body. It merges with him and turns him into something else. A messenger.

You see, there are three main powers working in the universe. Heaven, Hell and the Greenworld, which is to say the spirit of planets, in this case Earth. The guy is transformed into a ?messenger? that will take Spawn (in the next issue) to Greenworld where he will ?converse? with the planet?s spirit?not to mention receive a ?gift?.

Anyway, this new creature, the guy merged with the necroplasm is pretty much unstoppable. Nothing can harm him in any way, but he can harm you plenty. However, he doesn?t kill, he just transports.

What this means translated (as we find out later on) is that Spawn is now pretty much made into the most uber empathy/telepath I?ve ever seen in comicdom. Whenever he closes his eyes he can hear every single thought and emotion of every single person in the world. He can use this to track anybody down, no matter what the distance is. He can read their minds and tell their pasts. However, he can?t quite ?control? them by using this telepathy. It has no offensive capabilities IIRC. But still, it?s INCREDIBLY powerful.
The second use of this power is that he has pretty much complete control of the surrounding landscape around him. You?ll see later in case you don?t believe me

What Spawn does next is pretty unbelievable. He first teleports himself and Gramma Blake to the dead zone. There, he uses his own powers to turn her back into a young woman, then opens up a gate to Heaven. Gramma Blake sees her husband, and dances with him. (he also cures her of her blindness). The reason he does this at the dead zone is because that place is close to heaven. But yes, he has displayed now and before the ability to open up gates to other dimensions, such as Hell and Heaven, and will continue to do so.

This issue is low on Spawn feats. It shows how a normal, good boy from an American suburb picks up a gun one day and starts killing people in church. Apparently, all the murderers from the past few issues, such as the lady, the guy that shot twitch, this boy and others are being possessed by Billy Kincaid?s ghost into doing what they?re doing (hence the mark on their bodies). Billy is using his ?ghost? form to possess them, make them commit sins, thereby damning them to Hell.

I went through the task of posting pretty much this entire issue to show people that Spawn is an incredibly complex and intricate character. Constantly tormented by memories, shattered dreams, illusions, failed missions, powers that come out of nowhere, hellish tortures, and everything?

Spawn uses his powers to start a fire that swallows all the alleyways, everywhere around. The funny thing is this is magical fire. It only burns, erases and destroys things that were even remotely connected to Spawn.

What?s important about this fight? That?s not THE Devil. Nor is Malebolgia. Malebolgia is the undisputed leader of a realm out of 8 in Hell. He?s one of the most powerful lords. Later we will find out that this guy is called Mammon. His power, area of influence and such are about a thousand times greater than Malebolgia. While it?s not really stated clearly if he?s THE Devil or not, there are many points indicating that he is the closest thing. And even if he?s not THE Devil, he IS the most powerful lord of Hell.

Issue #90:

An abandoned house with three guys, a knife and a dead stabbed girl. Spawn found these guys using his empathic powers. He uses his powers to force each one to tell their version of how things happened. He already knows how it happened and who did it. The only way I can think that?s happened is because he mind-probed them all (telepathy babeh).
In the end, he gives the knife to the last guy, telling him if he?s really innocent and the other two are guilty, he should kill them and he?ll be set free?Very Solomon-ic justice?

In Sussex, England (all the freaks are in England ), a group of 9 people (I think) have been doing a thing for some time. They gathered up, all lovers of thrills and of the occult. The idea would be that they have a ?lottery?. The one that ?wins? is hunted by the others and then eaten (cannibalism L ). In the end when there would be only one left, it?s said it would invoke Urizen, an ancient dark God. But we?ll get into Urizen a few issues later. The idea of the issue is how they chase the fat guy (that won the lottery), and then Spawn stepping in to punish them.

Issue #94:

Not much concerning Spawn in this issue. It?s pretty much an issue that touches on the subject of Cyan and her very strong connection to spawn. Mammon the devil visits her at night. Issue #95:

This is the first issue featuring Urizen. Urizen is an ancient dark God. He?s pretty much unstoppable. Nothing can destroy him. The only way to stop him is to contain him somehow. The last time Urizen escaped, it took the collective powers of Heaven and Hell (two dimensions) to stop and contain him. But the containment was relatively weak. A ritual can bring him back.

This issue is about two guys, Zabraxas and Abbadon, two demons that are ?gate openers?. They?re completely awesome (funny as hell). Anyway, they can open gates to any dimension at all. It?s their ?gift?. They?ve been hired by someone (dum dum dum duuuuuum) to open a gateway to where Urizen is trapped. They do so by performing a ritual.

Spawn doesn?t know exactly who they are, but he knows they?re demons. They?re quietly driving along the road when Spawn jumps in front of their car. They have an accident.

Just as the title of the issue says, this is the first Milestone. This issue marks the end of the First Age, and the beginning of the Second Age.
Spawn having found out it was Malebolgia that hired Ab and Zab to open up the portal releasing Urizen so that he could usurp the power of the other Hell Lords while they were away fighting Heaven and he could become the supreme ruler of Hell. Spawn gets pretty pissed off.
