Twilight Janick
The setting: the execution arena on Geonosis. Both are armed with their lightsabers.

Lord Rikyl
Sidious, he's got lightning, which Vader doesn't have.

Lucas has stated that at this time Vader's only 80% of the Emperor.

Twilight Janick
80% of the Emperor about what?

ResubianNushi
Sidious. Vader is still too strongheaded and Sidious can manipulate his feelings.

Captain REX
Sidious. More powerful.

He is 80% as strong as Sidious.

Twilight Janick
Lightsaber skills alone will do.

Say what?

I am inclined to say that Sids still might win in terms of sabers. While Vader becomes much weaker at lightsaber combat from ROTS to ROTJ, Sids is still probably the same, or maybe a bit weaker. This is due to the fact that Sids hasn't undergone anything, and age is not a factor. And ROTS Sids took on Yoda and tied (even though I would say Yoda could have won had he not fallen), while I think ROTS Anakin would lose to the wise Jedi Master.

Twilight Janick
Conclusion: Sidious takes it.

There is a book where the Emperor, after Vader disagrees with him, takes a grasp around his neck and prevents him from breathing, taking him to his knees. Palpatine would take this easy.

he only needs the lightning, it tampers with vaders suit, and kills him easily.

And Darth Vader is a very bad fighter anyway because he didn't learn further after he got teh suit and can't even keep up his arms anymore.

Bull crap, in Dark Lord: the rise of Darth Vader , vader demonstrates some pretty impressive abilities, and if palpatine choked vader to his knees, its because vader let him, Vader could of caved palpys skull in with his fist for Gods sake.

Twilight Janick
Power levels don't quite explain who is better at lightsaber wielding than others.

Palpy gets stronger, while Vader gets weaker.

Twilight Janick
Why Palpatine didn't fight in ROTJ?

calvin44
Cause he didn't feel like it. He wanted luke to face his father, which could turn him to the dark side.

Darth_Glentract
Ugh. Lucas said that Vader is only 80% as powerful as Sidious. That means Sidious would win. No contest here.

Gamblor
Palpy gets stronger, while Vader gets weaker.

Sure, he lost potential after the lava bath, but he only got stronger since Rise of Darth Vader

Twilight Janick
And what exactly is the plot of Rise of Darth Vader?

Gamblor
Hunting down Jedi... pretty much.

He actually outmaneuvers two able-bodied Knights quite easily, and he discovers his strength which is enough to break someone's arm in a saberlock.

Fishy
Palps still killed three Jedi Masters in seconds.. Far more impressive, Palps tools Vader without sweating. GL has said that Vader was not as powerful as Palps, the movies show Vader as the apprentice when the most powerful must rule...

Palps ruled over Vader, Vader was the weaker of the two, he'd die.
