could someone sum up everything that happens around the era in which the movie takes place(yay i used the word era)

all this stuff about phoenix and outer space probably isnt gonna be in the movie. Could someone tell us what happened in the comics? bc im really confused

Lord Magnus
Pheonix... this followed a battle following which they had to pilot a spacecraft through intense solar radiation... the pilot couldn't withstand the solar radiation but Jean Grey could with her telekinesis. So she got the information on how to pilot the ship from the pilot's mind. The radiation broke through though, and she died (well, not really, but that's a while on.) Before she died, though, a wandering, all-powerful entity called the Pheonix Force took the form and mind of Jean. The rest of the X-Men thought it was just a more powerful version of Jean with a new name and costume, and the Pheonix itself thought it was Jean. But the Pheonix was incapable of feeling too much emotion and it grew detached from Cyclops and the rest. When a villain named Mastermind (whose powers are either really stupid or unlimited in every way whatsoever) tried to brainwash the Pheonix into loving him, she snapped and turned into the all-powerful Dark Pheonix, kicked some X-butt, and destroyed a solar system with 3 billion sentient lifeforms. But the X-Men managed to get through to the Jean part, and the Pheonix Force realized what it had done and turned into the normal Pheonix again. But the alien Shi'ar Empire was angered at the Pheonix's massacre of the solar system and sent down the Shi'ar Imperial guard to take her down. Now the Imperial Guard consists of an extremely large number of members, each of whom could take their weight in X-Men, but the X-Men stood up to them to protect the person they kinda still thought was Jean-like. Knowing they'd all be killed if she didn't do something, the Pheonix killed itself. Great story.

Doubt it'll translate that way in the movies, but long story short, Jean Grey's back, she's all-powerful, she's not Jean, and she turns evil.

The Ones
^ pretty much sums it up
