Alpha Centauri
List your top 10 best and worst albums of 2005.

Strictly music. Don't vote an album as horrid just because you don't like how the band look. Only vote if you've actually listened to the whole album and like/dislike the music.

Also, list the top 10 albums (if you can) of artists you are awaiting releases from in 2006. 1 being most anticipated, 10 (or lowest number) being not much.

Alpha Centauri
Adding another catagory for those who wish to partake:

Biggest surprise album? Eg: For me it was Say Hello to Sunshine by Finch. Didn't expect to like it one bit, at all. Bought it off the back of reviews (not just because they were good, but because they said some things that caught my eye) and the fact that I had heard a single from it which I liked. Thought the album would be a let down, but I really liked it.

So basically, one you bought on a whim or by recommendation without a clue about and ended up liking.

-AC

Lana
Plans by Death Cab for Cutie. I'd never listened to them before, heard and liked Soul Meets Body, figured "it's Christmas, I'll be getting a bunch of money" and bought it, not really sure if I'd actually like it or not. I love it.

Alpha Centauri
The Faint are excellent. I do think they get a bit samey, but then so do a lot of bands. As long as they do continue putting out good material, I don't mind.

Lana, get Transatlanticism. It's much better.

-AC

Lana
Will do!

And yeah, Transatlantacism is a lot better than Plans

Alpha Centauri
With Teeth is actually shit.

Stay away from it and buy something worth while. Seriously. It's a horrifically shit album, all things considered.

Alpha Centauri
It's still an official 06 release.

Agreed, but it would have been a disappointment after many albums. I wasn't particularly 'disappointed' because I am sure I was the single person not only not expecting a lot, but expecting a bad album.

I swear that they have the same song on there at least twice. I know it wasn't released in '05, but it was a big disappointment

I'm loathe to call them a bankrupt man's GYBE, because they don't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath, and it's only laziness that leads to the comparison.

They're a one-trick band, and the trick is both derivative and poorly imitated.

Deathblow
1. Eels - Blinking Lights
2. Cage - Hell's Winter
3. Dredg - Catch Without Arms
4. Porcupine Tree - Deadwing
5. Zion I - True And Livin'
6. Gorillaz - Demon Days
7. Opeth - Ghost Reveries
8. Dark Tranquility - Character
9. Chemical Brothers - Push The Button
10. DJ Muggs Vs GZA - Grandmasters (Tied With) OneBeLo - S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M.

Honorable mentions for SOAD, Kanye, Reef, Edan and The White Stripes.

Looking forward too:

Cannibal Ox
Muggs Vs Deck

MildPossession
Sufjan Stevens - Illinois
Abandoned Pools - Armed To The Teeth
Enya - Amarantine
Sigur Ros - Takk
The New Pornographers - Twin Cinema
Sons and Daughters - Repulsion Box

Those are some I enjoyed a lot this year.

ElectricBugaloo
i thought the new The New Pornographers CD was a huge disappointment

Ya Krunk'd Floo
Oh! There are so many hoops to jump through, but I shall try...

Out Of Exile - Audioslave (This is how to rock!)
Demon Days - Gorillaz (Funky beats and weirdly warped)
One Tree - Mishka (Acoustic, soul reggae)
Welcome To Jamrock - Damian Marley (Reggae to make Bob proud)
Make Believe - Weezer (Tune after tune after tune)
Late Registration - Kanye West (Hip-hop cannot be shinier or slicker)
The Mouse & The Mask - Danger Doom (It's all about the beats and rhymes)
Amos Lee - Amos Lee (Music to melt your lady)
In Between Dreams - Jack Johnson (Post-surf perfection)

Biggest disappointment? Arular by M.I.A. just because all the reviews I read were masturbating over it, but I thought it was only OK. It's her voice...ugh.

Biggest suprise? Sigur Ros' swirling music scapes.

This year, I have high hopes for new material by Radiohead, K-OS, The Beautiful Girls, Dr. Dre and perhaps a reformed Fugees - although it could quite easily be so, so, so bad. Too many guests would certainly spoil the broth.

Is there anything else I have to do to get a bone?

F*ck it! I don't want one now anyway.

<shocked> I don't know man, you need to give it a second listen cos you HAVE to like Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus. One of their best hands down.

I wouldn't say it's one of their best. My favorite song on FtM is Cassandra Geminni.

Oh, and this year I'll be looking forward to, well, Radiohead and Tool obviously, but I've also heard The Postal Service will have a new release by the end of the year, really excited about that big grin

I'll also be checking out the new Flaming Lips album, and I think Wilco and Mogwai are both coming out with albums this year.

Morgoths_Wrath
There's also been talk about new albums from The Pixies, Sonic Youth, The Arcade Fire, and Modest Mouse (i really really hope)

hopefully it'll be a good year for music

MildPossession
Oh I really hope that is true, love the music.

yeah, I know

at first I wasn't sure if they were even going to make another album, since it was only a side project, but given the success of their first album, I find it hard to imagine that they WOULDN'T make another one!

but Gibbard has confirmed that they will make another one, it's just a matter of when. Hopes are set for late in the year, but perhaps early '07.

Alpha Centauri
Well I know for a fact it's going to be a great musical year for me due to my tastes, it may not be for others though.

-AC

Tptmanno1
Hopefully me too...
Because New Tool CD means a New Tool tour,
and I'm allready making plans for seeing Dream Theater, as well as the Deftones/Dredg Taste of Caos tour, convieniently ending in my hometown... Although there are way too many shit bands touring with them.

StinkFist462

5. White Striples - Get Behind Me Satan
6. Gorillaz - Demon Days
7. System of a Down - Mezmerize
8. Death Cab For Cutie - Plans
9. Queens Of The Stone Age - Lullabies To Paralyze

Biggest Surprise and Biggest Disappointment and Worst: Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth

next year
Tool
Radiohead
Cure
The Faint
Nine Inch Nails (supposedly)
Autolux

Morgoths_Wrath
The Shins are coming out with a new album this summer big grin

Ya Krunk'd Floo
There's been some great albums released/soon to be released already this year: Ben Harper's 'Two Sides Of The Gun', Pearl Jam's eponymous album, Tool's '10,000 Days' and Red Hot Chili Pepper's 'Stadium Arcadium'. Ben's is great, and what I've heard of Pearl Jam's so far is almost on par with Audioslave's 'Out Of Exile'! I love the initial singles from Tool and RHCP, so I'm gonna go out on a wire and say they'll be forkin' smokin', too.

Also, Donavon Frankenreiter's got a new album coming out. 'Move By Yourself' sounds perfect; soulful, playful and sincere. Then, there's the prospect of new albums from Audioslave, K-OS and even Dre!

Good stuff, 2006!

Who else is happy so far?

Alpha Centauri
I already know from the first half of the year's upcoming releases that it's the best in a long time. I believe 2001 was the best of the 00's so far.

-AC

Ya Krunk'd Floo
Favorite so far, munchkin-boy?

Alpha Centauri
Shut it, shut uppp.

I don't know if I have a favourite so far, it's a bit early. Probably 3121 by Prince.
