Brett Ratner - Rant

Advance apologies to everyone for this rant, but I had to get it off my chest.

Why, oh why, is Brett Ratner directing X3? X-men is one of the best comics in the history of comics, with complex characters, a deep and rich story-line and that immediate social relevancy that made it unique in its time. I watch the X3 trailer and can't help but be excited.

X1 - introduce the characters and the world.
X2 - set the stage for the significant plot: the oppression of mutants and what it implies about humanity and mutants alike
X3 - go to freaking town. Hit the mutant massacre. Hit the Phoenix story.

X-Men could be another LOTR. I'm afraid that it is going to be another Star Wars: infinite potential wasted by incredibly bad direction.

Brett Ratner. WTF? What in his resume made people think that he was the right guy? Rush Hour (1, 2 and soon 3)? Red Dragon? The Family Man? Madonna the video collection?

This is a guy who has proved himself mediocre when directing formulaic action flicks. He doesn't have the sensitivity to character, story or plot to direct this movie. There have got to be good directors out there who were fans of X-men when they were kids. How about the Memnto guy? Or the Donnie Darko guy? Hell Zack Braff from Scrubs. Garden State was pretty good and the hard part in X3 ain't gonna be the action.

Now I hear that Halle Berry is swinging her weight around - trying to make Storm the central character. Hey, Storm was great and her subplots were some of the best. But Xmen was never about any one character. It was about the allegory of mutants as a minority in an increasinly hostile world and how different people responded to a wide variety of situations. Can Brett manage Halle? Can he put this film together?

I see your concern. trust me we are all somewhat skeptical if Bret Rattner can pull it off. Yes his resume is not that colorfull in fact more black and white with some ggrey in between but i think we should give this guy a chance. He gave us a cool trailer. He Got more mutants than brian singer ever did. Put the first two movies together and he still has more. on the other hand i wonder how that will play out. by the way i don't people like lauren shulere donner avi arad and tom desanto will let him screw this up completly. I bet they have some say in this too. so i say give him a chance.

Don't forget, Avi also had say in Daredevil, Elektra, and Hulk, and they weren't that good.

I'm skeptical because of all of the stuff they're trying to cram in. I'd be much more at ease if Singer was doing it, but I can't say Ratner is going to bomb horribly yet since I haven't seen the film. I liked Rush Hour 1 and 2, and Red Dragon...but they weren't films that I would say the director had a huge part in. They were mostly actor-driven films. Rush Hour 1 and 2 especially would be absolutely nothing without Chan and Tucker. Idk. I just hope he does better than X2, cause I loved it, and I think X3 should be the best one yet...I'm just not sure if it WILL be yet lol

I still believe in the actors. Most of them have a story to maintain, they wouldnt be in a big fail. Patrick Stweart is saying that this one will be the best. I believe him. And everyone has ups and downs. Why cant this be one of the first really cool movies that Brett direct? Not everyone starts in excellent movies, which doesnt mean that most directors are lame. Brett gave us a wonderful trailer, and he seems to care about the mutants, thus bringing new things. We'll finally see Storm flying, and its gonna be a freaking awesome thing to Storm's fans. And that's only one thing, so i think we should wait, watch the movie and then judge (if we're ever able to do that) Rattner's direction.

No one complained when Wolverine was centered around in X1 and 2 lol

Do you know what movies Peter Jackson directed before he produced the Lord of the Rings?........................Exactly you dont, thats because the movies he directed before LOTR were awful, but while making the Trilogy he discovered his own style of film making and now he is a genius... so before we all worried lets wait, and see besides Red Dragon was a very good movie.

I didnt have any objection to Brett Ratner directing, even if he is down there with Uwe Boll. I have always loved X-men from as far back as i can remember, and a story centered around the main X-men will rock.

The thing that worrys me is all the mutants they are trying to cram in within 2 hours. Yes we have Psylocke, Callisto, Phoenix, Juggernaut, Angel, Beast, Shadowcat and god knows how many more. We have an army of pointless mutants with no origin. Its stupid. We dont see that many in 1 and 2. We just gradualy open up the door with 1 or 2 new mutants then boom. 6000000000 mutants randomly appear and go straight to magneto's side. Where did they come in. Are they even going to be introduced. Then we have the Dark Phoenix story. I dont think that the mutants i mentioned above will add to the Jeans story at all. too much crammed in. Sometime's less is more. Thats why i think X3 will suck

Everyone makes good,valid points.So I guess i'll try to mediate through them.Yeah,just like most you people i'm a worried about Brett Ratner directing X3.I would have felt safe with Singer.However,since when have the X men been safe?Maybe a new look on things will give this franchise an awesome boost.I do agree with the ones when he says less is more.However,I only belive this is true sometimes.The first to movies kept us somewhat secluded from the mutant world and focused on the X men and Brotherhood.But,Magneto clearly states in the first two movies that a war is coming.So to me anything less than a massive cast of mutants on screen for the third one would seem almost like an anti-climax of sorts.When I picture a war I'm not just picturing like 12 mutants.I'm thinking in bigger terms and I hope the people behind X3 are too.

My favourite films have taken: Great Action, Great Story and Great Effects and thrown them in a blender. I fear the reason X3 will suck is by taking away Great story from the recipe of a great film

Patrick Stuart said that the film is the best of the lot, but he also said there will be many significant deaths.... Xavier and Magneto I'm fine with, but to kill the heir to the institute will piss me off (Cyclops)

Well actors will say that to get people to see it. Daniel Radcliffe could have said: "Come and see Harry Potter 1, Its the best" when its really shite.

I hope too they don't trash the story,but it's pretty easy to tell where all the mutants came from.Just watch X2.Remeber when Xavier shows Wolverine how many mutants realy are on earth?Their where quiet a few.I don't think they have to get into every mutants power either.Show so guest mutants (like Psylocke) using some unique powers.Make a some just simply disfigured.I don't know if you read any of the script or not,but it gives a pretty good explanation to how Magneto gets so many mutants to help him.

This movie is going to be executed to a quality beyond expectations. I have a good feeling about this one..

well P-man said X2 was really good and I wasn't disapointed, I have faith in what he says

maybe if he added 1 or 2 new mutants, people would complain as much as for the fact he's adding many. epilogue is that die-hard fans are never pleased...

Face it, guys, the movie sucked. 😄

Ratner is such a prick.
