This is a pretty even match but which way does it go?

Even without "The Sword of Superman"

Thanos 9/10 if he knows superman's weakness
Either way 5/10 if he doesn't.

Thanos makes a spaceship entirely out of Kryptonite

They are both powerful and highly smart, one has a weaknest and the other is immortal. I would say superman but I will not put nothing past Thanos the mad titan who has beaten powerful beings before. It's 50/50 whoever strikes first. IMOP!!

Well, even though I started this thread I'll answer it. With prep, Thanos wins. Without it, too close to call.

If it's going all out, then Supes.

Especially if he brings the Sword!!!

PC Supes is smarter than Thanos. PC Lex is smarter than Thanos too. Do we need to show the scan of Lex manipulating time with orange juice?

Physically in a straight up fight Thanos would get smashed. PC Supes and Wonder Woman were punching each other through galaxies.

Thanos isn't really all that. Usually he's protected by Starlin's writing. Without lopsided prep or his cosmic plot device of the week, Thanos isn't that powerful.

Every character is inconsistant. However at his best PC Supes was clearly above Thanos.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned superman's tried and true method of beating people. He simply hits thanos with his anti-(insert opponent) vision.

has anybody even read the issue with the "sword of superman"? he only held it for an instant, and then he cast it away because it held too much power and he wasn't ready for it yet.

PC Superman ends this with a delicious Hostess fruit pie.

Or, takes a second to come up with a brand new power.

I remember posting that scan. Anyways, Thanos needs to trick or steal the Impossible Man's power to fight tooney style against Supes.

I thought prep time was he files his latest story at the Planet, or does the TV newscast ( whatever was his primary job then...), goes and does daily heat-zapping of all street litter, saves cats, tries to remember to be available for next Lois date - then Thanos comes crashing into Metropolis with the DC HOTU!

If he gets his sword, let's spell it right out at the beginning.

2 Thanos use what ever he used to beat the Runner on Superman

5 Thanos call forth Dr Strange,Scarlet Witch and the Runner and they all kick his A$$

A desolate planet....

Thanos pulls out a huge KNite sword.

"Ha!!! With my Kryptonite Sword, my red-light laser cannon, my magical forcefield which even YOU cannot punch through,and my Five Hundred Million times lightspeed speed enhancing backpack - all of which I thought up with my ONE days prep - I shall have no trouble AT ALL in annihilating you!!! Mwahaha!!!"

All of a sudden, Thanos' KNite sword shoots off out of his hands and off into the distance.

"How????!!??!?" He bellows. "Grrr... well at least I can still zap you with this!!! Mwahahaha!!!"

He pulls out the red-solar sunlight cannon and hits Superman dead in the chest with it. Nothing happens. Superman smiles.

"How???!!!?!? That should have drained your powers!!! Grrr... at least you cannot speedblitz me, not with my 500 million x lightspeed enhancing back-pack!! Mwahahaha!!!!

Supes taps him on the shoulder from behind. Thanos turns and a punch sends him into a nearby moon.

"How!!???!? That makes no sense!!! You CANNOT be that fast!!!" He roars. "Grr!!! Well at least you will soon become toast thanks to this magical FIRE which can penetrate even YOUR invulnerable skin!!! Mwahaha!!!"

A huge rush of magical flame engulfs them for miles around, incinerating the entire surface of the planet, before disappearing in a flash.

Superman stands without even a single singed hair.

"How!!!?!???! That magical flame should've crisped you!!! Well - at least even youcannot harm ME! Not even your mightiest punches can penetrate this MAGICAL forcefield!!! Mwahaha!!!

Supes floats towards the still laughing Thanos... and flicks him on the nose....

"HHHHOOOOOWWWWWWW????!!!!??????!!!" Thanos screams, as he flies through barriers between dimensions.... never to return....


"Simple really...." says the victorious Man of Steel, Last Son of Krypton.

"Kryptonite is no threat to me, from a distance. My breath can snuff out stars and destroy galaxies - yet still has the control to manipulate objects with all the deftness of telekineses and provide falling people with cushions of air to fall upon. So a burst of simple Suction Breath was enough to remove the Kryptonite threat.

And given time to react to red solar energy - which I had, because in the past I've demonstrated that I can easily evade it's effects when I see it coming - I utilised my power to change a beam of light's wavelength, using only my Super Vision. So I merely changed the harmful Red Solar Light into rejuvenating YELLOW sunlight. Providing a quick energy boost for....

...Time Travel! Thanos' speed-enhancing backpack would be difficult to get around - granting him limitless speed. Yet what good is the abiilty to dodge something - if it's already hit you? Using my UNPARALLELED ability to time-travel on a whim, I appeared behind Thanos before even his enhanced speed could react.

The magical flame would normally burn me to ashes - but thanks to my quick thinking, I remembered that I can phase myself between two dimensions rapidly - rendering myself temporarily immune to even the effects of magic!

And as for his magical forcefield which nullifies my strength? He was right - even using all my might, I couldn't dent it if I tried. But I didn't try - instead, I simply flicked him into another dimension - another well proven feat of mine. Then I simply seal of the other dimensions, using Super Vibrations - they work everytime!

All in a days work... for Superman!!!"

I seriously doubt it the Titan is invincible master of all schemes, with one days prep im pretty sure he could kill superman, How??? He'd Trap him, superman is nowhere near Thanos intellect.

Thanos at most 300 comic book appearances, many more losses, damn he sure is a tactical genius

and I was agreeing with u, supes pre crisis would make thanos look like a clown with some powers, pre crisis is practically unbeatable, that's why they re thought his potential eventually, although i always think supes culd be this powerful again some day
