Oldboy is excellent. I'm waiting so badly to try and get a copy of Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. My friend in Cali had one imported from Japan on DVD (legal). Sucks.

Poor, not-so-old me.

I should really start amassing a DVD collection.

Alpha Centauri
Stay away from Snatch and Lock, Stock. Stereotypical, pointless crap. Then again it's probably funny if you're not British.

Yeah, I was really thinking about getting some CSI ones once I get my paycheck. Or Family Guy. It's either creative thinking or slapstick hilarity.

It probably doesn't sound too hard to pick, but it actually is. erm

BackFire
I think I have 300+ DVD's now, all kinda scattered around the house because I can't keep them all in my room. I keep my favorite 150 or so in my room.

silver_tears
I have all the family guys out now, the o.c, all the dave chapelle's, the oblongs, titus, futuramas, etc
I can't find half of the series though erm

Alpha Centauri

Better, in my opinion. I read them first, so I already had the goings on in my mind.

The movie is extremely good though.

On DVDs, the only DVDs I have besides Family Guy, few movies and some anime are music DVDs.

-AC

DarkC
Hmm, best DVD I own is either the third LOTR, or Revenge of the Sith.

And soon to be, King Kong. happy

BackFire
People usually like books better then the film versions of the same stories for some reason, probably because they can draw images from their mind and imagine things, rather then see everything given to them on a screen. I'll have to check out the books.

Have you seen the film 'Audition', AC? If not you would probably like that.

silver_tears
I've just developed the hots for Nick Moran droolio

Yeah. I don't think the LotR movies hold a candle to the books, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was absolutely dire in comparison to the absolutely fantastic novels and as f*cking brilliant as Sin City was, the books are better. I suggest reading Watchmen before the movie comes out also.

I read Neuromancer AFTER I watched The Matrix and a lot of people don't realise how much they rip that book off.

I love Audition, excellent movie.

-AC

BackFire
Matrix ripped off a good number of things, really.

I try not to compare books to movies, different mediums that require different attributes in order to be good, different methods of storytelling and such. But, since I love film, i find myself usually enjoying the film more then the book. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, for example, great book, great movie, but both are very different from one another. Same with LOTR. In both instances I like the movie more, just because it's my prefered medium of storytelling and entertainment.

People often forget that the too are seperate and what makes a book good usually won't make a movie good, and vice versa. People get upset when something is changed in the translation from book to film, not realizing that had it not been changed it would have hurt the cinematic quality of the film version more then it would have helped it.

On the flipside though, if too much changing has to be done to ensure it's arrival onto the big screen then it shouldn't be done. It's not worth destroying what a writer intended.

Not enough people read as it is. So for someone to go see the upcoming movie adaptation of The Da Vinci Code and think it sucks, and this happens to be due to changes, then they're never in a million years going to pick up the book.

With The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, I guarantee hardly anyone walked out of that cinema thinking "Man I definitely wanna read that!".

-AC

BackFire
Yeah, that's all true too. Most books can be changed into films, with a few necessary changes while still holding true to the quality and theme of the written material, it's pretty much completely dependant on the skill and dedication of the film maker.

LethalFemme
I already picked a movie now sit down and hush stick out tongue

silver_tears
I've settled on The Saint as my next feature film.

Hahaha, that's nothing. Then again, things get harder...much. You'll be begging for that kind of "work" later.

Poems aren't chores. Essays can be a pain but if you plan them, they're raised baking goods.
