I personally vote for '!!!111!!one!'.

Really needs to be dealt with with extreme prejudice.

'Chav' has been proliferated to death.

Sometimes a phrase becomes such a predictably wielded tool that I wonder how people expressed the idea before the phrase came about.

"Owned and or pwned" pictures as well.

Whoever came up with the "O Rly" thing really needs to die. Most annoying thing ever.

The random smilies in the middle are amusing, though.

For some reason, seeing you type something like that was very amusing laughing out loud

I mean the level of overuse and attempted parody.

Oh okay, as long as we both agree that it was always stupid.

What about this one word response (usually to something more complex than the user can comprehend):

Wat?

Imperial_Samura
I agree with everything here. And all that "leet" computer jargon that the internet using hoards have adopted from the small community that once used it (which I still didn't really like at the time, but at least in those days it wasn't splattered all over the internet like some sort of grammatical/linguistic diarrhea). Brutal abbreviation. New words. Owned. Pwned. Just annoy me.

Beyond that phrases like "it's always in the last place you look" - I mean, of course it is, I'm hardly going to keep looking when I find "it", ergo it will always be the last place I look - it's just redundant.

I can't work out what 'Pwned' actually means. That owl looks funny. I abhor all that stupid internet/SMS crap-speak, and I wish a slow death to anyone who quotes a whole post, and then just adds 'I agree'.

Don't do it.

Owned has always been a bit of a paradox to me. Those people on multiplayer games, or in debates, who believe they have done something totally brutal, cruel, overwhelming to someone etc and say owned....

I mean, do they treat all the possessions they own like that? Do they shoot the dog they own from the top of a school with a high powered sniper rifle - as in owning Counter Strike style? Do overwhelm the toaster they own with stupid facts and bad spelling and then sneer "toaster, your owned"? Do they take a silly picture with the words "owned" written on it and tape it to a pot plant in there possession after insulting it over and over in order to feel victorious over it?

I mean, do they treat their possessions with absurdity and disrespect like they treat those they "owned" on the Internet? Maybe I'm just looking to deeply here.

Funny thing I only found tat out half a year ago....before that I foun d it really annoying but then one day I was thinking "**** yes, that's like the molst truestest thing I have ever heard" ....it still doesn't help a bit but I find it extremly coforting that something as true as that can be said.

Oh anyways...overused ideas...hmm...socialism

Ya Krunk'd Floo
I think 'owned' might be a close relation to the phrase 'under the thumb'. I believe someone is 'owned' if they appear to be submissive to another, or if someone believes they have said something which belittles someone else in the most rudimentary manner. Either way, whoever is proclaiming the 'owning' is an idiot.

Can you help me with my 'pwned' problem? I just don't understand the derivation from 'owned'...

I've got two theories...first and wrong is that: It has something to do with Pawning..you know Pawn-Shops where you bring stuff and such...well that's obviously wrong...secondly it means you are nothing more than a pawn....you know, from chess.....it's a pretty useless figure (yes, screw you I know it's important...yeah endgame and such.....that's why it's a theory not a fact...cause it's WRONG)

I am totally aware you didn't ask that....but I said it anyways.

I like shellfish, so my theory is the 'pawned' relates to prawns who can't spell their own name and are fond of making nouns into past-tense verbs. What do you think?

Like it. When's the beta coming out?

Ya Krunk'd Floo
Riiiiiiiighhhhht....now:

I like well-kept gardens, so my theory is that 'pawned' relates to people who yearn for green lawns, but are unable to pronounce any other initial consonant sound other than , so they add kettles and solidify their reasoning by adding an 'ed' - which refers to the editorial help they so desperately need, yet are unable to satisfy.

Bardock42
Hmm, pretty good, but I gave it some though I think it refers to Pans...you know the things you make pan-cakes in? Now you ask how the "w" gets in there......and I have no clue but it did...and that's why everyone says it now no expression

Them being everywhere doesn't mean the phrase itself can't be overused.

Sure, but the point was that they always have been, in some form or another. The overuse of the neologism suggests that it describes a new phenomenon.

People used to make do with other terms, one of which also begins with c and contains four letters.

If possible I would like some clarification here....

Many times I've seen the word "chavs" in the forums. And most of the descriptions usually involved gang affiliations. Now, when I ask "Isn't a chav the same thing as a hooligan?" I get a different and objective response. So, is a chav consider a hooligan?

Not really. It's usually used to describe a person with a particular style of clothing and speech, and from a particular background.

Alpha Centauri
Pretty much. That's what I would consider them as, chavs tend to try and be more "cool" than hooligans.

From that link I was browsing the origins and variations of "leetspeak". I believe this is, in general, the most stupid and overused idea.

Basically they're just kids following trends. Whereas a Hooligan is a more real thug. That makes more sense.

You think that the "you're"/"your" mistake is on purpose?
