i don't think they would beat Tony's Iron Man suit

not only is Stark an uber-genius.... he's been using, testing and upgrading his suit for decades, he constantly upgrades his tech and it's all battle tested

Beast and Forge would no doubt come up with something useful (eventually) but Stark would always be a few steps ahead of them

forge need only look at the iron man suit to understand its shortcomings, and make a suit far superior to it. beast would be immaterial, despite his skill, considering he's teamed with effin' forge. tony would have a good time trying to keep up, but when it comes down to it, forge is everything tony is and then some.

Forge and Beast might be able to make a battle armor with superior capabilities, but Stark's experience would win the day. Unforseen breakdowns, complications that will inevitably arise in the field.... as a more experienced pilot and designer, Tony can handle such things naturally, while the X-Team would be relatively new to this game. Also, Iron Man has always shown extreme adaptability in rerouting power supplies and improvising with whatever is on hand, a talent that would be of far more worth in the field than the "well, if we had this and this we could...." long-term approach of Beast and Forge as designers in the X-Lab.

yet forge's power lets him naturally see how a machine functions, pre-empting power loss and system backups through uber-efficient design. and talk about improvising? forge turned his leg into cryogenic blaster in no time flat and made a variation of a GPS system out of an old TV antenna and some spare tech. he's been living CONSTANTLY with adaptable tech since the end of Nam. you give him and tony equal time to prepare a battlesuit, from scratch that is, and forge's will whoop stark's up and down the street. and be made in half the time.
