To me Superman is a symbol of what one person can become if he or she applies themselves to be the best at what they can be with what abilties they have and also that they can contribute to more good instead of evil in the world. Another meaning of Superman as a symbol reminds me that life is short and we are fragile as human beings, the human body can be broken but the human spirit never breaks only lays dormant sometimes and has to be unlocked. As the tragic incident with Christopher Revees showed me and most of the world, try to achieve everything possible within your life and never give up ever, Christopher Reeve never did and neither will I thank you Mr Reeve Thank you Superman - "So many of our dreams first seem impossible, then they seem improbable and then, when we summon the will, they soon seem inevitable" - The late great Christopher Reeve a real Superman

Not to piss you off, but what the ****?

"To me Superman is a symbol of what one person can become if he or she applies themselves to be the best at what they can be with what abilties they have"

How does Superman show that? Superman has Superpowers.....chances are you won't ever have Superpowers....
Superman just gets what he has for free....unlike Batman...I guess I can understand your Christopher Reeves part..althouhg again I don't really agree.

I think of Superman like I think of the model T. It has its place in history but I ain't drivin' one around town.

Superman is the perfect example of doing what a person can. To Superman lifting a bus is nothing. If he can do that and help people then hes going to do it. I may not have Super powers but if its within my power to help people then I should do it as well.

Hes an Icon, he represents moral goodness. He does what he does because he has the power do it. And hopefully the rest of the world follows suit. We may not be able to do as much as Superman, but we can still do as much as we can. Superman is the perfect example of this.

Super Kal El

you know whats most ironic. Superman is truly one of the most "human" heroes conceived. Even though he is a Alien

"Thank you for pointing that out olympian"

It was a pleasure.

Yes truly ironic , makes you wonder why he named himself Superman when as you said he is an alien, Superalien doesnt sound friendly or Superfreak so I guess Superman was the only alternate.

"It was a pleasure"

Mild mannered Olympian proof Superman has been absorbed into society and his moral goodness is alive and well within maknkind

Mindship
He symbolizes the simple and unabashed fact that, no matter how powerful and noble you are (and he is up there), it's still not cool to wear skivvies over tights.

For me, Superman represents a hero who needs urgent reinvention as a darker and less "apple pie- ish". He needs to stop acting like one of the God damn Waltons! I think they're called the Waltons...

Super Kal El
AGreed but thats the way good old Clark Kent was raised whereas if he was raised by Lex's family....he would have a different personality to tsay the least, but yeah he shouldnt be soo goody goody 2 shoes most of the time.

Knightfall93
Yeah, mess up time so he was raised by... Darkseid!

Knightfall93
Or maybe the demon Neron...
