Sects & Cults

I'm studying A level sociology of Religion and in one of our lessons we watched a documentry about The Heavens Gate Sect. It was really upsetting to see people go to such great lengths for what they believe in.

The problem is you haven't defined a discussion.

Heavens Gate was an extremist group that followed the teachings of a suicidal cult leader. And yes, most major religions started as cult. However, their path did not took the extremeist way.

I think it is a good thread for the RF, just give us your opinion and I am sure that there will be someone out there who will disagree with you. 😆

When people place others in authority over what they should believe you have groups like Heavens gate......Kinda similar to a Pentecostal church..
