Captain REX
If you go outside and wait for the tornado to hit you...yeah, have fun.
Just go in the basement.
Itzak
Beileve it or not, I almost died last week. ermm
Try finding a small hole and hide in it.

Captain REX
Then make a basement.
Seriously, why aren't you calling your friends and relatives if you're afraid a tornado will kill you? 99% chance that the people on here will probably just say 'Gee, sucks' or 'Go hide in a basement.'

I've no basement either. Try the bathroom or a place with solid walls and no windows. Maybe a small closet and cover yourself with a thick blanket incase of debris. In other words, even though you have tornado warnings in your area it may not even come near you if you even have a touchdown. We've had a few close calls as far as tornadoes but nothing thankfully. The shitty thing is, the County sirens aren't loud enough so if they are ever sounded for tornado warnings I'll just be snoring away! I won't hear a thing. So if a tornado ever comes in the nighttime I'm dead meat.

I think everyone who lives in a tornado area should just build a massive basement network and go underground. Or make subways.

Try living in tornado alley in a house with no basement, like I did up until 5 years ago.
I swear I've seen so many tornados it's ridiculous. We were driving home once and it was storming outside, I looked out the car window....and there was one about a half mile north of where we were driving. That was just mildly scary. And once when I was in 5th grade we had two funnel clouds form over my school. Not to mention that my aunt's town was completely destroyed by a tornado a couple of years ago, and it had come within a block and a half of her house.

Hey, wasn't my fault, we moved out there from the city when I wasn't even two years old
Where I plan to go to school next year is even further into tornado alley than where I used to live, and is mildly in the middle of nowhere. Shall be interesting.
But I must say I'm rather used to crazy weather. Comes from living in the Chicago area my whole life, I suppose.

We had some crazy storms today, they probably picked up strength. This morning when I was at school the sky was green, and we had a really bad thunderstorm a few hours ago.

Wow! Though I've never seen a tornado in real life *shudder* I have had to go to other peoples houses and just last year my mother and I were home and she was in bed and I was up watching the TV, all of a sudden the wind picked up to at least 70 mph and the news reported gave the "take the proper precautions" speech that they all do when you're about to get hit. So I woke Mom up, we got down in the hall between two interior walls and just rode it out. Though we did not get a tornado (Which I am thankful for) it was pretty freaking scary. We have a tree in the front of our house that's two times the size of our house and though it's a really strong tree, if the wind gets a good enough gust and blows it the wrong way...our house is gone. Lol. Sorry about your Aunt and her town's devastation. I would crap my pants!

Man, that storm was terrible, we were watching the news because there were tornados all over the place, and then they said a warning was issued for LaSalle County and was heading for Utica, where she lives (anyone who knows Illinois, that's where Starved Rock State Park is, and is about an hour and a half southwest of Chicago). Most of the town was totally trashed.
They're pretty scary, but I've become used to them, because I've seen so many.
When I was about 5 years old one hit where I lived, it touched down not a half mile from my house, and destroyed an elementary school about 10 miles from there. I STILL remember that storm very clearly even though it was 15 years ago; a lightning bolt hit a power line down the street from my house, knocking the pole down and starting a large fire.

That in itself means nothing, on weather radars the colors have to do with rainfall, not the storm intensity.
Fox13
actually, here it does, red = OMG RUN FOR COVER, orenge = OMG GO TO DEAFCON 2, green= *eats a cheeseburger* get it?

Stuff like that is universal.
The storm we had here earlier was orange and it wasn't anything more than thunder, some lightning, and a LOT of rain and wind. Not even so much as a tornado watch.

You're safe if it's 50 miles away. Just have supplies ready, IE a lot of blankets to cover yourself up with in the tub to avoid debris, maybe even a small matress if you have one. I used to live in Tennessee so I got used to the heavy storms with tornados, statistically not many people die from tornados.

Woah. Yeah, I have a friend in Illinois but I've never been there. We're always having these drills to prepare for one if it ever happened but thankfully there hasn't ever been one. Thankfully last night, even though the eastern weather front came through, we didn't get a storm, but the wind was crazy. It woke me up around 11 and Dad heard me get up so I walked out and he told me that it was just the wind and that there were not supposed to be any storms, just the wind. So I finally got back to bed. But, going back to close calls, do you think a tornado never strikes a path more than once? Or however that saying goes.
