Between these two god awful movies,I would say that Batman Returns was the worst of the two.It was even worse than the first with Devito's horrible portrayal of Penguin and the makeup and origin story they gave him,then catwoman coming to life and all of a sudden being a great street fighter because some cats bit on her,it was for sure the worse of the two.The first Batman had more enjoyable moments in it like when Basinger and Keaton were in the batmobile driving to the batcave through the forest and we heard Elfmans theme song.Plus at least Nicholsons Joker was true to his character except for him killing Bruce Waynes parents of course.

Batman Returns w as blasphamy... and heresy too! Batman was just BS. So Batman is the lesser of 2 EVILS!

Well I prefer Batman Returns over Batman 89.

Finally a guy who does agrees with me and is not flaming either of the movies.

I'm having a hard time to choose, both were very good...I think I prefer Batman Returns a little more above Batman. I guess maybe because of Michelle Pfeiffer lol

Batman also had more screentime...you saw him more in action.
film was just Tim Burton's magic!

Batman Returns was a much better movie because it had more villains and I felt that Batman had a better amount of screen time then in Batman 89. And also I felt that Micheal Keaton performance was much deeper then his performance in Batman 89. And also I liked how darker it was compared to the last movie.

Batman Returns all the way.

I like Batman 89 better cause Joker was portrayed pretty well. Not perfect...but since when is anyone ever? I thought he was funny, and evil. Just like Mr. J should be.

I often laugh at Joker's remarks in the comics.

I think Batman Returns was the best of the two... hell, best one yet if ya ask me... I mean we're not gonna get a better Catwoman and the Penguin wasn't half bad either.

I rewatched the start of B89 but didnt get v.far. It seemed pretty good at the start, maybe I misjudged...

No your right,The Burton movies start off misleading you that they are going to be great batman movies because they do START off promising enough in the first 10 minutes or so but after that,they pretty much show their true colors and how crappy they really are.

None of them, both are crap. But at least, michelle pfeiffer was in the second one.

its strange that Batman returns is in the lead cause according to box office it earned a lot less money than Batman '89 (not that I care much about that) I also voted for Batman Returns...

Batman Returns.It was more fun,and I loved the Gotham City architecture and the snow etc.

I also loved the fact that it was an a Artistic comic book movie. And how different it is from usual Comic Book films that come out now as well as back then. Batman Returns rule.

I vote the first one being better. Returns is too over-the-top with its surrealism.

i loved both of these but prefered Returns, the chemistry between Batman/Catwoman and Bruce/Selina worked well as did the triangle of Bats/Catwoman/Penguin. Plus Michelle Pfiffer in THAT catwoman outfit says it all!

I rewatched the very end of Batman Returns on some movie channel yesterday. What was with Catwoman going all psycho and singing nursery rythms at the end? What was with Catwoman, period? I've always thought it odd that all the people who complain about how much they changed her character in the Catwoman movie never seem to be bothered by the fact that in Batman Returns, she's magically brought back to life by a herd of cats. I'm not some purist who throws a fit every time a movie adaption changes something, but I've never been able to get past that particular change.

Both were pretty crap,but Batman89 was better than returns.

Yeah, the bringing back to life by cats was wrong and ive never understood how that actually works?? the nursery rhymes she was singing was to count the times, she had died and when shreck ran out of bullets, she had two out of the nine lives left. Maybe the nursery rhymes were to signify the innocence of selina kyle or maybe im reading too much into it, whatever, that was one of the best scenes of the film.

I'm not sure if I want to watch it again... the crapness of catwoma too, urgh! Has anyone else read 2Batman Featuring Two Face and the Riddler", it just has a very creepy, weird Penguin in one stoy that's all about this guy makin a documentary about gotham villains, it's a very cool story!

He fought Penguin, Catwoman, the zoo was blown to bits by the penguin missiles, and Max Schreck got a tazer tongue kiss

what i mean is there wasnt that much martial arts action involving Batman like with Catwoman which shouldve been done i think.

We can hope that they will get another chance to fight in another movie...

I cant wait for another catwoman, whenever they decide to put her in!

LOl cats did not resurrect catwoman in batman returns.
She just falls an hits her head an she goes insane from it an the cats influence her insane mental state. The cats swarming over her is symbolic of her loss of sanity. An everytime she supposedly "dies" she just luckily/barely stays alive, she doesnt die an keep coming back to life. LOL
Returns was good only because of the catwoman scenes/portrayal. The penguin was a incest freak child an sickened me, but despite that catwoman lines and scenes more than made up for it. The ending was horrible though penguin guided missles? Jesus, its like schualmer stuck his foot in the ending of this movie an carried the next 2 films to hell with him.

The 1st movie(89') was the total package villan to hero, from beginning all the way to the end of the film.

I would have to say Batman Returns had more action and I could understand. Batman got more screen time and had a better costume.

In Batman 89 it was very boring. But when the action scenes came it was great. He showed martial arts in the first film. It also had a better villain. Though the Joker was the star of the film, NOT Batman. Overall, I liked Batman 89 better. Although the scene in BR was cool(with the clowns and batmobile).

one thing i didnt like about Batman 89 though is at the very end where Batman, Joker, Vicky Vale n his 2 henchmen are up on the bell tower, that one guy just beats the living crap out of Batman, that black dude. i mean he just totally made Batman his b*tch in that scene, he was throwin him around all kinds and kickin n punchin em, even with that armor he had then what does Batman do to beat him? wrap his legs around his neck and pull him off the tower ledge

It's a movie I suppose.

Just saw batman again its very good better then begins lolz . I still love returns the best batman film ever.
