This may shock and anger many of our resident horror buffs, but according to Yahoo (.co.uk) entertainment news Wes Craven has given the go ahead for his cult classic The Hills Have Eyes to be remade this time Craven's duty will be to produce and the directorial duties will fall to 'French Fright Duo' Alexandre Aja and Gregory Levasseur (Aja will write and Levasseur will direct).
For those who have yet to experience the original the plot revolves around a hapless family who make an unwise detour right into the grasps of a disturbing clan who soon prey upon the family.
MildPossession
I am looking forwards to the remake a lot, didn't think much of the original, found it a bore.
And it has a fabulous director, Haute Tension's Alexandre Aja! Can't wait.
b-dan
ya its coming out on march 10 2006

A Small Report from a journalist who has seen a preview of the movie :
After the reception, The Hills Have Eyes. This is where the evening wound down. I wonder how Wes Craven is feeling about this? The audience didn't really seem to be with it, and were joking about it afterwards. We were also shown a variation of a scene that might or might not end up in the film- mostly to do with the color. Anyone who had problems with High Tension will find that Alexandre Aja is up to the same shenanigans here.
As we were leaving the theater, we were treated to a couple of little goodies from the film. From Night Watch we got a box containing the doll with spider legs made famous in the trailer. It's a weird choice, since it's not exactly a big part of the film (although it's displayed in the poster). Still, the strange little windup toy gets a lot of interesting looks from my coworkers. From the Hills Have Eyes, we got this disgusting little squishy-ball thing. It looks like a red stress ball, but when you crush it in your hand the innards squeeze out of holes... and they're packed with body parts. I count 4 tounges, 2 eyes, 4 noses and 3 ears, along with a lot of blood. The pieces are ragged and bloody, as if they'd just been taken off a body. Needless to say, this is a great little toy to just leave around until an unsuspecting individual picks it up and tests it out. Probably the best thing to come from the movie!

I f**kin hate ppl who have to remake films and ruin them. Ive hated every remake ive ever seen all they do is destroy classic horrors. These b**tards looking to make money off someone elses work should not be allowed to make films. Im disappointed in Wes Craven for letting ppl ruin the hills have eyes.
MildPossession
The Hills Have Eyes isn't exactly a classic, well not in my eyes anyway.
cropsy_is_god
Still a remake will not be any better. I HATE remakes there shit
Wolfie
Wow, I had no idea there was a remake coming out.

Oh crap, I thought this was a new thread. My bad.

Can anyone give me a general plot summary/what to expect?
It looks somewhat neat.

The original was a movie with potential that didn't catch my interest. This is from the director of High Tension. I have high hopes for it.
By the way, the original Hills was made in 1977, before 28 Days Later and Cry_Wolf. I don't see the connection you're making to those anyway.

1st off - I did not know that was a re-make.
2nd - Mutants? People being Tracked down? Middle of Nowhere?
Cry Wolfe? Ai, I mean't the one where they are stuck down in the middle of Australlia with some psycho killer. Wolf Creek.
BackFire
This is actually one of the most promising remakes of the last few years. Looks very solid.
Solo
Almost looks promising.
DarkWizard
Holy shit.
The original version got the NC-17 rating. It's now edited for R.
If you could do the honors of merging the threads, BF?
FG725
wow the first was NC-17 damn i dunno if i wanna see this or not i personally HATED high tension i couldnt figure out what the hell was going on
DarkWizard
I smell a rape scene.

BackFire
I've heard there is one.
FG725
well i suppose i could go see it
papabeard
Its out on Friday , here in the UK, think Ill go and see it. Has anyone seen it yet? is it worth it?
ILoveMyDaniel
This movie looks kickass.
botankus
These remakes are really getting embarrassing.
cropsy_is_god
I just bought the original version of the film and im dreading the remake.
MildPossession
It has got a strong rape scene apparently according to reviews. I'm just looking forwards to the mannequins scene, suppose to be extremely creepy.
Deano
its got a lot of good positive reviews. its meant to be more psycological horror than a gorefest which is good.
BackFire
Saw it, liked it.
Very intense, though pretty cliched. It did its job pretty well.
stone26
l saw hill have eyes last night on the opening day it was breath taking l would go see it a million more times l give it a 10+ wes craven is so awesome the no.1 horror movie of this year
MildPossession
Wes Craven didn't direct the new one.
spencerspider
that movie was awesome! I loved it. I liked the end even though Doug was a jackass lol what a dumbass. anyway, yea the rape seen was kinda... strange. I mean those retarded people, would they know all that?
And what the hell was that movie with the little boy in the swing int he previews. I was like holy shit. he scared the crap out of me

better than original?
BackFire
Completely different tone and atmosphere, really. The original is kinda campy and a bit light hearted. This one is extremely intense and really sets out to make the viewer feel upset and uneasy. Great suspense and some excellent gore. Also the remake is very focused on the revenge aspect of the story.
I would say this: This is the best of all of the recent horror remakes, by far.
spencerspider
I agree it was awesome
Darth Vicious
Is theat "The Omen" preview? the lil guy in the swing, What creep me out was that it said he was coming on the 6 day of the 6th month of the 6th year(666) and dammit I realize we are in the 6th year! The movie was ok, it wasnt awsome. I agree, I dunno why they would rape the gurls, they wouldnt know the first thing about it. And damn,Doug took a good beating in that movie and he kept coming.
Aries_04
Well the were actually just ordinary people....that were a little disfigured by those "atmospheric nuclear tests" so they would understand.....all things about sexuality that we do. The rape scene was a little bizarre....I actually saw one lady quickly lead her kid out of the theatre when that scene came up.
I thought the movie was pretty good....I need to see it again to really pass judgement on it......but I do reccomend it......most people seem to love it.
LOL That OMEN trailor got me too........
spencerspider
yea man, anyway I the rape was strange, and in my theater this pady had her like 4 year olds in it. I was like wtf man you don't take little kids to this. And yea Doug was called a wimp and look now lol beat the hell out of them.
spencerspider
saddest scene was little red riding hood lol thats what I call her. why did she tackle the dude off the cliff. drop kick his ass or something. lol anywa how it zoomed into the binoculours at the end was cool. even though doug could prob take them.

Yea it looks like they have one or two more to deal with......it might be a Hills Have Eyes 2....it wasn't like they really had a way out....just would've been a really long walk....and now especially with more of the cannibals alive.........................
spencerspider
yea, just let those 4 live or kill the girl she is annoying... Doug, Bobby, and the Baby. maybe Beast too lol he was badass
Darth Vicious
That blonde girl was hot. The scene were lil red riding hood tackled the guy i saw it coming a mile away before it happened. I think they had a way out, just go back to the crate and get one of them cars. I would hate to see what the baby would be,if any, from the rape.
BlackSunshine
I kinda want to see it. However I've never seen the origional so I dont really know what to expect. I've also been told that the origional is really cheesey but so was Amityville Horror and I still liked it.

She was hot, little red riding hood scene I also saw. Doug is a dumbass. Drops the gun right beside the guy, so obvious. But she still could havw dropkicked his ass lol. About the cars at the crater, all fo them were torn up, I mean almost all of their tires were out and I doubt the keys were sitting there...
about the baby omg that would be nasty as hell
Aries_04
I thought Doug was gonna make a run at the blonde chick for a while.....and there was no way I thought that guy was gonna get up after all those rounds got pumped through him.....but Spencer's right the little girl should've went for a drop kick
Deano
the rape scene? i think they must of cut it in england. All i saw was him unzip his trousers, she was crying, and then it went to another scene.
great remake though. Its more darker than the original. i enjoyed it.
Darth Vicious
The rape scene wasnt graphic, it was kinda fast which wasnt bad. I dont think red hood knew what a drop kick was. Isnt it ironic that the inbreds could get enough signal to watch tv but pyro(doug) culdnt get any in his cell?
Deano
i expected the rape scene to be graphic because of the way people was hyping it up. it could of never been as graphic as the rape scene in irreversible
......................
And yeh i know what you're sayin..why sacrifice her own life? And its stupid how doug threw his weapon by the mutant. i wanted to kick the guys head in who was in front of me, it was so stupid. Also stupid how the kid when he saw his mom being eaten, why didnt he shoot the guy instead of running off..and then decide to shoot him.
apart from sillyness like that..the movie was very good
Darth Vicious
I agree.I havent seen nothing as close as that in Irreversible.
CrazyEyes
It was an alright film, haven't seen the original but I kinda want to now. I was more 'on-the-edge-of-my seat' scared at the beginning, but after a while, I got into the film. This film has one of the worst character developments, in my opinion, that really annoys me in some films. The one guy who is a nerd suddenly works out he's a tough guy who can wield an axe good!? See it in too many films. It worked in this, but I wanted to see a little more. As for the rape scene, all I saw was the unzipping of his fly and that was it. Didn't even know there was on. Overall, a good film that I may check out again.
WrathfulDwarf
If future remakes are going to be as good as this one ....then make'em! I really enjoyed the film. Gore factor was very good. The make up of the radioactive freaks looks great. The rape scene was disturbing...however, I will admit that I chuckle prior to the scene when the freak's face was shown.
I didn't even know the director was Alexandre Aja. This guy made Haute Tension. Which was also a very good film and I also did enjoy. He really knows how to put suspence into his films.
btw-beast is one cool dog....beauty was pathetic.
I'll say 4 out of 5.
A very well done remake.

That was "The Omen 666", which coincidently is a remake of "The Omen" which came out in '76.
Overall it was a good movie....I enjoyed it.
It was suspenseful when it needed to be. IE: We had no idea if Doug was going to live or not after a while.
A good factor of goriness....Not too much, but not too little.
A good remake to say the least.

I thought all the characters were going to die. The tagline said "the lucky ones die first". The opening scene was friggin cool! This film made me feel rather emotionally undecided. I felt bad for what happen to the miners and their families. But then I felt satisfied when Doug started killing the freaks. I was cheering for him.

LoL That's what I said to my girlfriend.....After we walked out, my friend Mike and I were saying we would have killed all the miners, we wouldn't show mercy...
So my girlfriend was like are you serious?....I was like "Does that make me a monster? That I was happy when Doug killed them all?" lol

Awesome. That's an encouraging statement. Makes me really want to see it. I've heard a lot of opinions in favor of this "...Hills..." movie and it seems to be well beyond the average remakes we've had in recent years. I haven't had the opportunity to go watch it yet, but I'll watch it this coming weekend. I sent the link to the Hills myspace page ( myspace.com/thehillshaveeyesmovie ) to some friends to get them to watch the trailer and try to get them to join me, but for the most part, they're all turned off. LoL.
And btw... what the hell is up with parents taking their little kids to go watch a movie like this?

Deano
that would only happen in the states. ridiculous. in england you have to be 18 to enter the cinema.
Morning_Glory
I saw this movie last night and it was just plain GROSS!
I do want a german shephard now
anyways... the worse thing was that these 2 parents took their like 6 yr old with them to see this... that 6 yr old shouldnt being this sort of movie (in my opinion) anyways... i hate it when parents take their small kids to these kinds of movies

I definitely agree with about bringing young kids to see something like this. I really don't think little kids need to be seeing The Hills Have Eyes.
But yes, I really really loved it. I thought it was great.

Darth Vicious
I agree I wouldnt have shown mercy neither. When i first saw that guy in the chair, the one with the big melon for head all i was thinking was "hit him in the neck with the bat" and after the 2 biggest freaks fell i would check every house and take out as many as i could.
WrathfulDwarf
I was hoping they would show the scene when beast is ripping apart that melon head mutant freak. But there was already enough gore so it would have been pointless. I hope there will be an extended uncut DVD in the future. Maybe a Special Edition.

Yeah that would be good.
papabeard
I hated the music at the end, ridiculously over the top.
I thought the film was pretty poor, I preferred the storytelling in the original, alot of the subtleties from cravens story were missing and I felt they were important, but the violence and gore was more accomplished in the remake and it had a quicker pace and a more manic energy than the first, which was good.
I didnt like the mutant make up it was a bit too comedic and that dude looked exactly like Sloth from the Goonies, thats not frightening. It did have some excellent moments but was very patchy, and if i wasnt so familiar with the original I think I would have enjoyed it more.
cropsy_is_god
I was surprised at the gore in it. I expected it to be goreless. It wasn't a great film but it was the only some what good re-make of a film. The Omen trailer was so stupid. Im dreading that film.
Illyria
When the movie ended, I saw this little blonde head of a five or six year old kid. I was so shocked because this movie had a lot of ugly violence in it. I don't know how some parents take their kids to see this kind of movies. Btw, I liked the old version much better esp. because the acting wasn't that great in this movie. I liked the brother's acting and I guess Emilie de Ravin was fine.
devilsreject304
I loved the remake myself, plenty of needed gore, I thought it was very great.
allofyousuckkk
im so tempted to read what happens on themoviespoiler.com, but im going this weekend, and i dont want to ruin it
papabeard
He didnt even stab the guy at the end, instead he shot him, changing that changes the whole tone of the piece, stabbing someone is a way more visceral and (I have read) personal and difficult method of murdering someone, shooting the mutant removed this, and a big part of the story arc is the change in the family, (and Doug in particular), changing ( mutating, if you will

)and becoming savages themselves, so I feel this undermined the impact of the moral commentary.
Jason_Krueger
I saw this movie skeptical, mainly becuz of all the piece of crap remakes as of lately (When a stranger calls, the fog, nuff said) but upon leaving the theater after the credits rolled I was very much pleased with this remake and of the work of High Tension's director.....never had i felt more rooting for the good guys since i watched Last House on the Left....which also was a work of Craven.....so all in all this movie was a satisfaction and i'm gonna go so far as to say it belongs in the category of remakes better than the original along with The Thing and The Fly.
I'M BACK!BEEN AWAY FOR A WHILE!MISS ME!

edit: I'd re-edit the previous post but it won't let me.
I saw The Hills Have Eyes last night with Daniel. It was really good. It started out slow, and at first I thought it was going to be the same old horror flick remade into something even shittier but it wasn't, it was pretty excellent.
It was very couragious of the girl in the red hood to save Catherine (the baby), I never expected that.
The mannequin town was just fuzzled up though.
Great gore; more than I expected.

Little Red Riding Hood should have drop kicked him. Not tackle him.. Anyway it was courageous but that was no way for her to live as some retarded person. She would never be looked on as normal. Anyway I saw that coming ever since DUMBASS DOUG dropped his gun..

Yes but we don't actually know her full story, now do we? As you saw near the beginning of the movie her picture was on a newspaper article tacked to a bulletin board in the gas station. For all we know, she may have been kidnapped. And those imbreeds probably did a good job of keeping her back until she finally saw a good chance, when 3/4 of them were dead, to take Catherine and run for the hills.
spencerspider
wait.. what?dont know the whole story? what are you talking about. look at her she was one of them..
allofyousuckkk
she didnt have to be one of them from the beginning. If she was there and the gov. tested more bombs, the radiation would have effected her as well.
spencerspider
But it was that little town of miners that got infected. She was there, or the messed up mom gave birth to the messed up child one. And none of them were really messed up from the beginning, the bombs messed them up.

I just saw this today. I thought it was pretty good. It was cheesy at times, the gore was great. And I really felt for the family (which is a good thing since I almost never feel for the victims in horror movies).

People who say they liked this but hated Wrong Turn are complete idiots.
THHE remake was pretty much Wrong Turn 2.
At the start you see the scientists get killed, and then thrown off the cliff, can anyone say Wrong Turn!
Wolfie
Wrong Turn was ridiculous. The costumes looked like just that, costumes. They were obviously trying to cross TCM with the original Hills but they wounded up with a pile of smelly sh*t.
The Hills remake was decent, for the reasons I posted above.

It's obvious Aja watched and took ideas from Wrong Turn before making this movie.

This movie was not good... IMO, it was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. What was the purpose of this film again? It wasnt even scary. It was just boring, disgusting and stupid. There was nothing creative or innovative about this film or its content.....Says a lot about the state of entertainment when millions of dollars go into piles of crap like this.

Well, I don't recall the exact details of Wrong Turn, seeing as I saw it only twice. So I wouldn't remember the opening credits. Teens take detour. Get flat. Cannibals attack. A couple survive. The end.
Brodrick
This movie is un-original. It is pointless and it is very predictable. You can tell the exact order off the deaths and as usaul you can tell who is going to live. The fact that Doug went from weakling to Die Hard in the matter off a second was crap. I did however think Aaron Stanford was fairly good in this film.
The characters arn't likeable. Brenda is annoying. Bob jnr isn't that far from annoying and the older sister is just thick. The father is a complete jackass and is as stupid as anything and the mother genuinely even in her death sceme. The only likeable character is Doug. I did feel sorry for the kids. But they weren't characters i enjoyed watching.
The mutants looks just stupid aswell. The fact they ripped off Wrong Turn AND house of wax is pathetic. The death scenes were all similer. Two were from axes too the head and two from a dog attack.

It was a great movie imo, they just shouldn't of ripped the credits from Wrong Turn.

Very intense, though pretty cliched. It did its job pretty well.
So I'll see it.

I saw this a few weeks ago and I really liked it. I liked how at the beginning there were some good family scenes, so that once the mutants attacked I truly felt for them. A standout was definetley that geeky guy. What a surprise it was to read that it was the same actor that did Pyro in the X-men films. He was completely unrecognizable. And the mutants were cool too. It would've been great to see more of that large melon-head type guy, especially when the dog gets him. Does anyone else know what the deal was with the trenchcoat guy that was chasing the kid and her sister at their trailer near the end. Why was it he was the only one that didn't look mutated at all?
deathbycorn
In the unrated version, that guy takes the mothers body from the car, runs into the hills and starts eating the mums insides, its ****ing gross, then the son see's the body aint there and runs into the hills and see's the mutant eating his mums stomach. It's fu*ked up. And that mutant is also the one who kills the dog and eats the dog leg when the son falls off the cliff.
The unrated version is brutal. It's up on a few trackers.

Well, I got my hands on Aja's "The Hills Have Eyes" this afternoon and gave it a look see. Never have I been so let down by a director whom I once thought had so much promise.
My distain started from the credits, which more or less mimiced that of the "Dawn of the Dead" remake. Some twangy country tune, coupled with black and white scenes, intercut with zombies, or in this case, inbred cannibals.
Something else I saw as a flaw, that others would see as a compliment, is that it followed the original too closely. Aja resorted to 50 dull minutes of jump scares with the score, as if to say "Hey! Stay awake!". Just horrible pacing. Even at the 50 minute mark, when we get our first glimpse of anything remotely interesting, it had come and gone. Which brings me to my next complaint, the "inbred cannibals". Was this THHE or a "Goonies" homage? Michael Berryman, IMO, was the shit, and carried that movie, and to replace him with a Chunk lookalike (who acted equally as retarded) was a pity. These characters were HILARIOUS, not FRIGHTENING. Soon after the introduction, the immolation of Big Bob looked so..****ing..fake.. it was just bad, bad, bad.
I don't even feel the need to keep going, because it will just be more complains about bad dialogue, ridiculous mutant rednecks, and hardly any gore to support it's self billed slaughterfest.
Personally, I had planned to add this one to my shelf Tuesday without even watching it, but now, I dislike it even worse than the original, frankly and can't recommend it. Perhaps Aja should stick to doing his own work, instead of remakes, given THHE wasn't a masterpiece to begin with, and never really came off as a frightening film. A totally unnecessary update, like most of these revisitings.
BTW, the "Unrated" version is a whopping ONE minute longer than the theatrical, so don't expect anything special.

Meh. I never expect anything special with these "Unrated" dvd's, as I only see them as a marketing ploy. I, personally, liked it. I didn't LOVE it, say, enough to buy it, but I liked it enough. I agree with you, C-Dic, about the credits a la Dawn of the Dead, and the fact that the mutants came off as hilarious, rather than grotesque (lotta John "Sloth" Matuszak look-alikes), but all in all I really have to say I liked it. I'd rate it a 7/10.

I almost rented this, but just couldn't quite bring myself to doing so.
Jason_Krueger
This movie was the only one in a long list of recent horror remakes that I thought was actually better than the original.....not since Cronenberg's The Fly or Carpenter's The Thing has the remake outdone the original.
xeous
Realistic deaths...
Oh and by the way, whoever was talking about a certain scene with the mother in the unrated version, that was in the theatrical version as well.
Colere
I thought the first movie was good, most movies that are being remade are completely downrating the original version and giving it a very bad name.
I'm not even going to bother to see the new movie, not even worth my time. I am tired of good movies being turned into sex scened, nudity loving, cursing out of their butts, ridiculous actors/actresses stupid crap.
allofyousuckkk
Ehh. I bought the unrated version, even though the cover isn't as cool because she doesn't looked errily relaxed. I dont think most remakes are worse, or better, but kind of the same. This was deff better though
This deffinately did not happen:
LizzyT123
so, is this movie rental worthy? I heard there was like, a reaaaaaally long rape scene in here, is that true?

About the closest the movie has is a short scene where one of the mutants pulls open the mother's shirt and begins to...well...you know, but absolutely no nudity is revealed and it ends very quickly when she rams a screwdriver through his leg.
And btw Lizzy it's very rentable. A good horror movie IMO. Be sure to watch it though at night with the lights off and the sound very loud.

i heard quite a funny remark today some Lass was talking to her friends
and she was saying have you seen 'Wrong turn' and they were like Yeah , then she goes ' welll 'The Hills have eyes ' copied off that movie and i was

Its a sodding remake of the 1970s original not a frigging Teen crap horror movie what are you dense

deathbycorn
It copied Wrong Turn left right and center.
The opening credits, the barb-wire on the road, the junkyard of cars.
To say that it didn't copy Wrong Turn proves how dumb people on KMC are and why I don't post here anymore.
LizzyT123
um.......I don't want to get involved with that last post, but yeah, some people are just unaware about all these remakes and such.
Legion_of_Maul
this movie wasn't scary, it was greousome (did i spell that right) and very broken in parts, what i mean is it got a little confusing who was bad zombiemen, or who was goodzombiemen, and i didn't know who to feel sorry for, then i just got angry at them both. mainly cause the zombies were ugly! and at the humans cause they were beautiful, why can't normal people ever be on tv shows!!!! DAMNATION. sorry did i lose it?
LizzyT123
ummm.......they weren't really zombies though right? Just cannabalistic mutants, right?
erm, does it matter if they are good or not? *cocks shotgun* I don't think President Bush would want any damn mutants runnin around here! *spits out chewing tobacco*
NormaBates
I bought the unrated version and thought it was great. really awesome
gorescenes. The only letdown was the rapescene. It's been so hyped up!! It appears to been cut from the UK version but there is nothing to cut. You actually see nothing and the actual 'rape' scene isn't long at all.
So Lizzy don't expect to much of that. But still a great movie!
LizzyT123
mmmmkay, I'll have to check it out when I get back from vacation *sighs* I hate vacation, lol
ladygrim

awwww

i reckon they should atleast explain what happens to Doug and the others in the sequel, as the plot line is something completly different in this sequel apparantly

NormaBates
If you live in the UK then there is only one version, but uf you live in the USA and you bought the copy with the original cover then you have the
cut version. But if you bought the one with the screaming girl on the cover with UNRATED written all over it, then you got the good one! lol

Deano
i do live in the uk
