Look at the situation we're in people....

Film companies are deciding to spend time on projects like Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Deathlok, and Ant-Man, rather than Iron Man, Green Lantern, Flash, etc?

What are the films that we are looking forward to:

X3
Spider-Man 3
Batman Begins sequel
Superman Returns

X3, what do we have: General public thinks "some weird casting, too much trying to get crammed in, what the hell are you doing to Cyclops, and Ratner is going to ruin everything."

Spider-Man 3: "Some weird casting, too much trying to get crammed in, what the hell are you doing to Venom and Spider-Man, and Raimi is going to ruin everything."

Batman Begins: "Hello?......anybody in here?......Guy?....Liev?....Lachy?....anybody?"

Superman Returns: "Brandon seems a little weird, what the hell are you doing to the costume with that retarded shield, and no real villain again, this blows..."

Wanna throw in that Casino Royale for us Bond fans as well has so many shots at it (rightfully so in 9.5/10 categories)....

What is up with the films that are coming out?

DigiMark007
Meh...I've enjoyed the Spidey and X-Men films...I won't judge the third installments until they come out. I thought BB was similarly good.

There's always questionable decisions in Hollywood, especially because they don't have message board fanboys barking in their ears about the movies they should make. But the bevy of comic-related films that are coming out is a good thing for us regardless of how you look at it. Sure, some might be flops, and others will have inexplicable characters like Ant-Man. But for every one of those, we'll get a gem like Sin City that does well enough to warrant sequels.

...that's just my take. I think it's a good time to be a comic fan.

NoFate007
Its certainly a good time to be a comic book fan, due to, like you said, films like Sin City, Batman Begins and such. I've loved a lot of the films that have been released so far, having not seen Catwoman or Elektra. Daredevil I thought was the best it could've been, Hulk could've been better, X1 too, but X2, SM1, SM2, Batman Begins, Sin City, all great films.

The weird thing though is that every "series film" that is coming out recently has been either heavily attacked by the fans for no reason, or for every right reason. Spider-Man, the "holy grail of modern superhero films" is even being attacked left and right. People are worried about Topher Grace, not many people like Sandman because he's boring, pretty much everyone I think would agree with me that adding in "more Peter and MJ time" as well as the Stacys is ridiculous, etc.....X-Men you've got people dissatisfied with some casting (though I personally love it all, save for Kitty) and people worried about the possible deaths and for cramming too much in such a little space. The new Bond film, Casino Royale, has had nearly every fan in an uproar with every new piece of news they find out (to recap: Sony has decided to cast an ugly blonde to play Bond, who has so far had teeth knocked out, can't drive a stick shift, is afraid of the water, had heat problems, and made a terrible performance at his announcement, in a film that will be an origin film despite how the female M is there, confusing the artificial timeline up, spending virtually no time on any gadgets and instead promoting a grittier Bond that will in fact be less gritty seeing as how he won't even be allowed to smoke in this film".

Everything that has become a series seems to be under nukes lately, and I don't really blame the fans too much. Some things are ridiculous, like how people are getting upset with Topher playing Venom when it hasn't even been officially announced yet - however, for the most part, I think fans should be worried about a lot of these things we're complaining about. After all, doesn't that just show that we liked the previous ones that much to care about a giant drop in production like this?

DigiMark007
Yeah, any big movie will have critics. But the production companies are laughing their asses off as they make millions upon millions of dollars/pounds/euros/etc. and simply ignoring the small group of dissenters. You'll never please all the fanboys, which is why the movie companies don't make the movies for us. They make them for the mainstream "Ooo, that looks like a fun movie" crowd where they'll be getting most of their money from.

And I can't speak to the Bond films. Haven't seen the guy act, so I'm unsure. But people fear change. And people also liked Pierce Brosnan. It's going to be hard for him to suceed under those conditions, regardless of his looks or his acting.

...and I won't judge SM3, or Sandman, until it comes out. I trust Raimi, as he's done a great job with the first two.

NoFate007
I saw Craig in Road to Perdition....wasn't impressed enough to even remember who he was at first. Of course, that wasn't Bond, that was (whatever the character was), but he just doesn't look like it to me - and with all these reports, he doesn't seem to be acting it either lol.

I think Raimi's done a good job but if you think about it, there was more Spider-Man in #1 than in #2...and now with all this talk of Gwen Stacy, it seems like Spider-Man 3 is going to be Peter Parker featuring Spider-Man.

That's probably how it should be. Comics are about the story more than the action (yes, believe it or not...at least the good ones). I'm sure he won't neglect the Spider-Man portions, but it would be shallow if it was nothing but SM.

But you seem convinced to be skeptical, which is fine. Hopefully it proves you wrong, but you're entitled to your opinion.

NoFate007
I think you're misreading what I wrote. Like I said, I'm not someone who thinks that a superhero film should be all action. I love the fact that Spider-Man 1 balanced it. However, it is a SPIDER-MAN film, not "When Peter met Mary Jane". Two entire films that were 1/2 (or 2/3 if you look at Spider-Man 2) about Mary Jane means we're missing out on Spider-Man. I think Batman Begins was the perfect example of how a superhero film should be. It was a film on story, not on action, but it didn't dismiss the fact that as a hero, he has villains other than paying bills and missing out on fun.

I didn't mention V for Vendetta cause I haven't been hearing any negative things about it, so I can't put it in a thread talking about how series films are under bad publicity lately if its not a series film and so far everyone's saying its awesome lol. I hope it is, I want to see it.

I'm not convinced to being skeptical of these films. This whole thread wasn't a way for me to vent my own frustrations, seeing as how I don't even agree with some of them that I listed. The idea of it is how for some weird coincidence, all of the films that are coming out soon, despite their previous films and how much people loved them, are getting these really bad reactions from the fans. If it were just one or two it would seem natural, but Superman, Spider-Man, X-Men, James Bond, etc etc etc....that's just kind of odd. In my own personal opinion, I think X3 will be a let down from X2 but will still be better than X1. I think Casino Royale will be "meh" and people will be split on the issue. Superman I think will end up being good but people will say "well it wasn't as good as Batman Begins", and Spider-Man I'm pretty sure will do fine - unless Raimi does what the fans are thinking, and cram stuff in and force characters like Venom to have virtually no screentime. Then people will be pissed.

But who knows. The first one we'll see is X3. Maybe if that kicks ass then it'll calm everyone else down for a little bit. I think we're caught in a time frame where all the films to look forward to are shrouded in mystery and its just agitating everyone.

^^ Gotcha. smile
