the bands i remember first listening to, and got me started playing guitar

For various reasons:

Prince, Michael Jackson, Jimi Hendrix, RATM, Tool, Radiohead, any Mike Patton project.

pearl jam, beatles, sigur ros, sleater-kinney, led zep, pavement, neil young...etc...

Korn

The band that got me into music first was Green Day.

Blink 182 got me into music in general

Bad Religion and NOFX got me into punk

Avenged Sevenfold, though not strictly metal themselves, are the band that got me interested in metal.

not really I just like listening to the music except funny song John Howards Bitches changed my thuinking of John Howard kinda. And any of you ppl who don't know who john Howard is shame on u learn to know some international prime ministers.

Hmm...There are so many but I can only think of one off of the top of my head as we speak and that's Korn. They've such inspirational words in their music pieces. "Make Me Bad" has the most influential words by Korn.
I want something to do, I need to feel the sickness in you. I feel the reason as it's leaving me no not again. It's quite deceiving as I'm feeling the flesh make me bad.

mine would be SIMPLE PLAN and GOOD CHARLOTTE. i KNOW ALOT OF YOU GUYS DONT LIKE THEM. that is your problem. but to me. they write awesome music. you know some of their lyrics are telling me to continue living my life. if you listen to their song none of them ask you to go hang yourself or suicide. actually mostly the only thing i'm living for is to hear their new album...
