KMC's Top 10 Favorite Movies

Text-only Version: Click HERE to see this thread with all of the graphics, features, and links.

Solo
Everyone knows it was only a matter of time. Inspired by the "Top Ten Albums" thread in the Music Discussion Forum.

Post your top ten favorite movies.

After quite a few lists we'll combine the lists and make "KMC's Top Ten Movies". The rank you give a film on your list is important, because the higher it is the more chance it has to get in the top ten.

1-10 only.

I'll post mine soon.

God damn it, you guys already got Lady Vengeance over there in the UK? Lucky bastard, I'm dying to see that. Lord only knows when it will be readily available here in the US.

Oh, but we got 'Bloodrayne' before you guys, so I guess that evens it up.

It's really hard to put them in order. erm

1.Reservoir Dogs
2.Crash
3.Sin City
4.Pulp Fiction
5.One Flew over the cuckoos nest
6.Lord of The Rings
7.The Shawshank Redemption
8.The Usual Suspects

3. Apocalypse Now
4. LOTR trilogy
5. Swingers
6. The Last Of The Mohicans
7. The Matrix

Observation: I bet the people who have voted for Casablanca and Citizen Kane have only done so because they are considered 'worthy', rather than some ultimate love of those movies.

Come on, confess...You know it's true.

It's out in cinemas here in the UK, but it's out on DVD in Asian countries, I got myself the lovely 2 disc Korean edition, beautiful edition that's worth getting if you can, Japanese ones are suppose to be excellent too.

I need to come back, if I ever do, with a top 10, impossible without feeling bad about leaving one film out, have lots and lots of favourites.

Knightfall93
OK, my list sucks because I realy need to watch more movies and I love comics...

Damn, that was hard. I know it's a pretty 'safe' list but these are all films that I adore the heck out of. And just to be clear this is a list of my favourite films, not what I think are the best films... which is why there is no Godfather: Part II, 2001: A Space Odyssey or American Beauty in my list. P.S. I consider both volumes of Kill Bill to be equally as great. Other honourable mentions include: Eternal Sunshine, The Matrix, Pulp Fiction, Donnie Darko, American History X, Minority Report, Groundhog Day, A Clockwork Orange, The Truman Show, Goodfellas, Fight Club, Silence of the Lambs, Batman Begins, Sin City, Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Almost Famous, Vanilla Sky, 21 Grams, Lock Stock, Snatch, Dark City, Indiana Jones Trilogy...

You coulda bent the rules and just put "All Stanley Kubrick films" as one number.

Or just bite the bullet and pick a couple and throw them in the list like I did.

Big Lebowski is awesome - "This is what happens when you **** a stranger in the ass!!" John Goodman is so radical in that movie, I love him.

Hahaha..that's like me saying that the only reason people are voting for The Matrix is because they think the effects and fighting is cool. Idiotic.

You're wrong, at least in my case. Citizen Kane changed the way I view movies, my taste in movies...everything. I still find it as emotionally gripping since the first time I saw it. And, unlike a lot of movies, there is always something new that I never noticed before whether it be a facial expression, dialogue, setting etc. I'm not one to call it the greatest film of all time, but it is a film that holds a very special place in my heart.

I didn't know it was bad to love a film that has received many accolades and been on many top ten lists. I'll switch Citizen Kane with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Remake if it'll make you happy!

Fair enough. It was just a test to see if you really liked it. Evidently, you really do. It's a great movie, but a lot of people just add a movie like that because it turns up in all the critics' top ten, rather than them personally thinking it's great.

As for The Matrix, when I saw it at the movie theatre I was simply astounded. I had seen nothing like it before.

I was going to do that, but I had already lumped the LOTR together, so I thought I couldn't do it again. However, LOTR should be classed as a collective, rather than individual movies.

I love that movie. I can watch it again and again, and still laugh like I'm watching it for the first time. I love the facial expressions, the dialogue, the story, the White Russians, everything. For me, that was the Coens' peak. 'O Brother Where Art Thou' is also great, but everything else since then has been down-hill.

BackFire
Yeah, LOTR is basically one long movie actually split up into different parts. So it works.

I thought Fargo was pretty much just as good as Lebowski, but for different reasons. But yeah, Lebowski is definately a film that can be watched over and over again. Shut the **** up, Donny!

Ya Krunk'd Floo
I love Fargo, too. It's weird how some people can actually hate that movie so much. Some friends of mine said they thought it was absolutely terrible and that it is one of the few movies they have rented, then turned-off half-way through. They had no idea why I thought it was so funny. Weird.

BackFire
It is a fairly strange film, some people probably just don't like it's style or it's method of storytelling.

Good Choice.

Ya Krunk'd Floo
So, is anyone going to compile all these lists or not?

We're still waiting for that KMC Top 10 that was promised...

I'm gonna tell my mommy.

DeVi| D0do
According to this thread, KMC's TOP 10 Favourite Movies are...

1. Pulp Fiction
2. Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
3. Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope
4. Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
5. Sin City
6. The Matrix
7. The Shawshank Redemption
8. Reservoir Dogs
9. Donnie Darko
10. Fight Club

11. Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
12. Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
13. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
14. Batman Begins, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
16. A Clockwork Orange
17. City of God
18. Back to the Future, Requiem for a Dream
20. Saving Private Ryan

Condensing the list by grouping the two major trilogies (Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars (the original trilogy only)):

1. Pulp Fiction
2. Sin City
3. The Matrix
4. The Shawshank Redemption
5. Star Wars: Original Trilogy
6. Reservoir Dogs
7. Donnie Darko
8. Lord of the Rings Trilogy
9. Fight Club
10. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

11. Batman Begins, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
13. A Clockwork Orange
14. City of God
15. Back to the Future, Requiem for a Dream
17. Saving Private Ryan
18. Baraka
19. Scarface, Schindler's List, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Good The Bad, And the Ugly, This Is Spinal Tap

I arrived at these results by using a points system... IE: on peoples' lists, the film at #1. received ten points, the film at #10. received one. For people who said "Lord of the Rings" or "Star Wars Original Trilogy" or any other group of films I simply divided the number of points by the number of films in the group and assigned them to each film equally.

Interesting Stats...

Pulp Fiction was the most voted for film, appearing in 16 lists.
Pulp Fiction received a total of 121 points. The next highest was 62.5 going to Star Wars: ESB.
Film in the Top 10 that received the least number of votes: One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest appeared in only 4 lists.
Film not in the Top 10 that received the most number votes: A Clockwork Orange appeared in 6 lists.

I don't know if there's a more accurate way to do this, but if you want the excel document I used to get these results to see the full list/fix the list/alter the list to your advantage just pm me...

Ya Krunk'd Floo
Great work, DD. Thanks!

I think this is the most representative list:
