Hey everyone! I thought it would be nice if we all disussed interesting ideas and activities to get the Harry Potter forum really active again! So what do you think we could do to meet this goal? It can be anything, so let's discuss and I'll see what I can.

The Forum is in dissaray with all these (For lack of a better word) Newbs. Keep their "which iz better narnia or hp' threads here, but have a place for Serious (And More Mature) People too.

Anyhoo, I can't do anything about the posters IQ's here and come on guys, that's highly opinated. I suppose a Newbie Guide or something might help, but I'm not sure what all would go into there.

I agree with Ashea16Chic (miss you on the LC!) about the Forbidden Forest. The debates kinid of died probably becuase we're in the recess between Book 6 and Book 7 and seemingly there almost seems to be not much to debate about. So perhaps we could do somethng different to put the fun back in here.

It isn't just the debates being dead, we seem to have lost a lot of people from the forum. Speaking of losing people, sorry to go off subject, what happened to Phoe and Air?

Phoe has left us long time ago (Nice to see you Rog). One think that can improve is haviing a well structured roleplay, but I know there is a separate forum for that. Other that that, after couple of years existance I think we have pretty much exosted all the subjects, plots, interestig to discuss.

I have to agree. Because JK didn't give us any hints about book 7 nor did she leave much interesting things to discuss about in book 6.

i agree, all we seem to have here now is people making useless threads and posts all the time. the mods have enough to deal with with out things like this. i think what we should have is a sorta 'trial' period for new members watching carefully what they do and what there quality of posting is like.

Yeah, I don't want to take away from Ush's boards and what's he's doing. Plus, I don't want to get away from the central purpose of the HP forum. Having everyone just opening a random RPG would be waaay too confusing.

But I was thinking of having something special like a monthly role play for all of us to enjoy in, kind of like what we did with the debates. Each of us are "students" at Hogwarts and each month, we have a brand new adventure. We could have a thread where we talk about ideas and adventures and perhaps vote on them like we did with the debates and hey, I might even have the person who came up with the idea start the thread - just as a way to get you all involved.

But I have a couple of ideas that I'd like to bring up to you all.

What do you think? All opinions are welcomed.

I like all of those ideas. Especially the monthly role-play, that would be particularly fun.

The role-play thing: Go for it. We could have stuff that is themed for that month, like a Halloween party, and a "Spring Fling." That would be good.

Avatar thread: Definitely, since the sig forum is cluttered as it is. Would they have to be a specific size or any size? Could we request? Good idea for the recreational thing. *

Fanart thread: Yes! I'm always looking for new manipulations (blends) etc. Could we request in that thread? Could we have sigs, or just banners? What about banners for HPFF.com/for stories on fan fic sites? Good idea for the recreational thing. *

Daily Prophet: Nice idea. You might have to Recreate that like with the art and icon threads, because if it gets too cluttered people will not want to search through 100 pages of news for something that might not even be there, and then it will get longer and the same thing will happen over and over.

* We'd have to have pretty strict rules in that thread, because of ripping etc.

I agree about the Daily Prophet thread because it can easily turned into a chatting thread and news would get overlooked, though I suppose if everyone got into a habit of checking it regularly.

For the avatar thread, same rules as KMC. 100x100 max, or smaller.

Maybe like monthly challenges for individuals, and giving them points. It can be based off their knowledge of HP.

what i would like...is something very simple...king firstly to stop bashing...and secondly people reporting everyone....i dont think the point of something being reported is for discipline...its just to clear the threads.... alot of people abuse it...

I think that all these duplicate and pointless threads should be cleared out, and that people should keep the socializing and unrelated chatting to the social thread- thats what its for. and the character bashing/promoting to the anti-appreciation boards where it belongs. And for people to stop bashing each other, it gets really old.

I think we should have some things like the monthly debate, monthly fanfiction reviews, house competitions, and stuff revived because i think it promotes a much more friendly discussion and competition then whats been going on lately. And it gives the forums more organization.

Thats just my opinion, but it seems like the caliber of these boards has really fallen apart lately, and they could be improved and everyone here have a much better time in sharing the common bonds of fandom that these boards were created for.

I think so,I would but i dont know what to or how to say it.

I don't think the RPG's idea is a very good one. There are already two beautiful forums for that kind of stuff, and frankly, it would only attract "noobies" with bad spelling, who make posts like, "arhry csats teh AVDA KEDRVA at voLDEMORT."

That, we need less of.

What this forum needs is more... intelligent threads. There are, what, four social threads? There's really no need for that. Use the official one.

That brings me to the next topic. There are too many duplicate threads. Perhaps an Official Images Thread? Where posters could post all new images based on Harry Potter, OOTP, the new book, or what have you.

The Umbridge thread. Shouldn't that be in the Appreciation and Anti Forum?

Beyond that, I think the Fan Art thread would be cool. We need some more debate topics. Truthfully, that's what attracts the more intellectual posts.

It's possible to bring this forum back to what it used to be, it just needs some cleaning up.

There are a lot of pages to go through so I'm going to be doing that and combinding a list of ideas and such that everyone has suggested. Thanks for your patience everyone.

A few threads just need merging and/or moving, and that should tidy it up a bit.
I really like the debate idea, because there is so much to talk about. I listen to mugglecast, and you should hear some of the stuff they discuss; they pull the books apart

What about a wizard duel thread? Not a role-play, just a mature debate about which wizards would win in a duel (eg. Snape and Lupin).

So kind of like a versus thread? Like Snape vs. Lupin and then we discuss who would win if they were to duel against each other? Is that what you mean Diamond?

Yup, that's what I mean. But only actual discussion, not just people coming and saying Lupin would win just because they like him more. We could have a different 'duel' every week or something, so we stick to one 'duel'.

Honestly anything that would make this section a bit more active as it use to be. I know the last time it was active was around Goblet of Fire and Half Blood Prince but it would be nice to keep it that way instead of having it like that around the time of a book or movie. and what will happen when the series is over? There wouldn't be much to talk about after that despite the movies.

Interesting idea, I know Phoenix used to do them when she was mod, but said that they became confusing I think. I don't remember her exactly words but lemme do some investigating and I'll get back to you on this.

I know if there was a HP versus section I'd come here all the time (I have been a member since May 2005 and have only posted in the HP section a couple of times right now). I'd even be willing to moderate (if there was need for a mod, not trying to sound hopeful with that statement or anything.)

I'd be a huge proponent of a versus section. I love those debates, as long as they're realistic and fact-based...I have had issues in other forums because there is no specific versus forum for some of my posts :-(. This is why we need a versus forum lol...no prob with you being a bigger SW fan, and I do agree w/u about Voldemort vs Vader. However, Gandalf the White from the books (a demi-god) would not just lose to Dumbledore so easily...it may be a 50/50 thing. My issue is that characters from the Potterverse are so often underestimated by those who've not read the books and seriously think that Dumbledore is just some old guy who can barely walk lol. yeah, well, I didn't see anything from Gandalf in the films that makes me think he could beat Dumbledore. That big monster than nearly killed him? Dumbledore would have gotten rid of that quickly with some fast wandwork. Remember, the man owned Umbridge, Fudge and 2 of the best Auror's at the ministry in a few seconds.

Well, I've seen versus threads before, and versus sections are always far bigger hits and draw far more anntention than versus threads. If the goal is to expand the HP section/activity, while having fun, a versus section would make more sense.
