I fail to see the connection between science as poetry and religion.

Sometimes scientists refer to a particular theory as "beautiful," meaning, not only does it account for the phenomenon in question but does so in a way Occam would be happy. Everything falls into place, simply, eloquently; the theory just "feels right." It is in a way like poetry: all the elements come together to produce an organic whole greater than the sum of the parts, a whole which sends a chill down your spine and makes you smile cuz you feel you are glimpsing something, understanding something, glorious and profound.

Fortunately, most scientists also know that just because a theory is beautiful, that doesn't necessarily mean it's correct.
