really need help on this. i've installed hard drives many times in the past but one for some reason doesn't work. maybe im doing something wrong.

i open up the computer (power off), i take out the old harddrive, and i switch it with the new one. i turn on the power, and it says

"Analyzing network Media type, this will take several seconds..."

and the several seconds seems to go on for 2 hours sad

any help would be great thumb up

i think im forgetting to do something.

-hh-
anyone...would really appreciate some help

You can replace or switch Hard Drives on them however unless the hard drive has an OS installed on it from that computer than it will never boot.

In other words if you take a hard drive with windows xp on it from you computer and place a brand new hard drive with windows xp on it which was installed from another computer, it will not boot into windows. So this means you will have to install windows on the hard drive that doesnt boot.

Simple...replace that new HDD with an external so you can use both your old one and new at the same time.

it's a new harddrive. nothing in it.

ummmm i guess i'll try doing that.

i just need the new hard drive though.

That's what I did, saved me a lot of time. Instead of having 250 gigs of new HDD, I have 290 gigs combined.
