Me, I tend to lean towards marvel, but there are many titles I like from DC. One took me off of Dc was the PC garbage. I felt like I was reading a sophisted looney Tunes. I didn't start reading DC again until after post started. Now, I go back and forth. Some times I buy like 18 marvel books and 2 dc one month, then I'll do the opposite the next.

marvelprince
I was Marvel all the way till a couple of years ago. DC has been putting out some good stuff as of late though so now I like both companies. If I had to pick though I'd go with Marvel

My favorite would still probably be the Infinity Gauntlet saga. That one always holds a place with me.

I been a DC comics loyalist since the 80's. I'll still be one unless DC Comics does something real stupid to their characters. Currently I have issues with Marvel Comics and because of the high price of comic book these days I don't follow them anymore.

Believe it or not I'm DC comics BIGGEST critic. A true fanboy doesn't just suck up and accepts what he gets thrown. That is why when Dc makes mistakes I pound them hard. Unfortunally, I don't see that from Marvel Comics fanbase....."ohhhhh spidey's new suit is soooo coooool"

I hated the Ion costume and it already grew on me I actually like it alot now.

I agree on you're take on what a true fanboy is.........

I don't consider Spider-Man's new costume to be a mistake... characters can get a little stale if they stay the same for too long.... I think it's good that Marvel has the guts to try something new

How long did that blue Superman phase last?

Never been into DC until recently. I picked up mostly just Marvel books until a year and a half ago. started out with The Space Ghost trade. which got me interested in and reading Green lantern and the GLC. which got me interested to try other DC books like the The Flash and Superman/Shazam.

going to pick up detective comics
eagerly awaiting Ion,Flash,Trials of Shazam,GLC .

Thunderstrike
I'm primarily a Marvel fan, but every now and again I see a DC comic that interests me. Batman has had a few, Death of Superman and Reign of the Supermen were great as well. Superman's return was just iconic. Pre-Birthright his origin was awesome. Marvel nowadays still has some awesome titles, but you really have to go looking for them. Supreme Power, The Thing, and obviously The Ultimates are awesome. That, and I like Spawn.

Im a Marvel Zombie, why? Because Marvel is the complete package, great stories and superior art. I pretty much read 85% of Marvel stufff until recent years when DC started having good stories and great artists(I think it started with Batman:Hush). After Batman:Hush and Identity Crisis came out DC in my opinion was giving Marvel a run for its money. They started hiring better artists(most of the good ones ironically came from Marvel) and better stories but I dont like the direction they are taking with the whole Infinity Crisis but Marvel's upcoming Civil War will be the storyline to follow this year. Make mine Marvel.

Darth Vicious
Sorry I didnt read all the posts. While I dont like Spideys new costume I know is only transitional and I believe it will play out in the upcoming Civil War. HAs any super hero who has changed costume stayed that way? NO, they all go back to their original costumes.

ScarletSpider
Maguire's leisure suit Guy Gardner was an awesome look, I think. They should have kept it. Guy in the GL corps, everyone around him in spandex, he's dressed in 1970s disco club attire. Give him a tie with a little GL logo on it, he'd be all set.

I hated Spider-Man's new costume to begin with, and I'm not a big Spider-Man fan, I enjoy the character but am not die hard about him. That said, the suit has grown on me. Seeing it in action and not just Quesada's still shots, it's not that bad.

I may be alone here, but I liked energy Superman. That said, I'm not a huge Superman fan, and much of my exposure to energy Supes was when I just recently went back and read Morrison's JLA. Had they just created a new character with that power set, I think it would have done well, they made the mistake in changing an existing one. For me, I'm not that attached to him and thought the change was kind of neat.

Erg, I cant choose. I love them both equaly. Although Decimation was a flaming piece of crap and Infinite Crisis Rocks.

However, Marvel has Runaways and Young Avengers. But DC has Teen Titans.

But, Marvel Hypes WAY to much. (hence Wolverine Origins), but they do still have Nextwave.

Marvel also has Brian Hitch, but DC has Jim Lee

DC has Geoff Johns, Grant Morrison, Greg Rucka and Mark Waid

Marvel has Brian Bendis, Ed Brubaker, Mark Millar and Jeff Loeb.

I don't read any company to the exclusion of the others, but DC was the first comic company whose stuff I read, and I still love them to pieces. Even if they did get rid of Cassandra. And bring back Jason Todd and Hal Jordon (why does that character have fans? I don't understand it). And ruin Impulse and Superboy.

Well ... uh ... I never said they were perfect ...

Seriously, though, I do prefer DC.

He does Marvel stuff too.

Dr.Fate
man its really hard to choose one. I'm going to have to go with DC. I love how they honour there heroes from the past and have legacy one of the big points of the JSA. Also any number of there titles pays homage to its long histroy going back to golden age. Just look at Battle for Bludhaven a DC comics historian can make connections to dozens of characters that havn't been used in years also they tend to clean up there histroy and give reasons for retcons and other things

marvel now brought a different style to the comic world. While DC characters originally were flat. Marvel made there two sided the strong hero and fragile human underneath, they also have a great histroy of on going team titles Xmen has to be the longest running team comic ever for its consistany and also F4. Plus I love Alpha Flight

now not everyone likes Golden age or silver age homages since it can be a little complicated. and if people still think DC heroes are flat and Marvel heroes are more realistic in this day and age is completely off. It hasn't been like that since the 70's.

i'm going to vote for DC. I like the range of titles they have not only is it superheroes but it has wolrd war 2 comics sometimes, humour and has some great imprints Wildstorm, Vertigo. and don't be offended this is just my opinion but marvel doesn't seem to be taking that many risks in its choice of titles they pretty much have been sticking to its mainstays xmen, spiderman, F4 etc while DC tries new characters and conecepts.

ScarletSpider
I love the Golden Age stuff, and the fact that DC makes an effort to really get their Golden Age characters out there makes me extremely happy. I loved New Invaders, yeah it twisted the Golden Age around a little bit, but in a good way, Jacobsen made Thin Man an interesting character.

But DC seems to love their characters a little bit more and respect them more, giving a little bit more room to stories that need to be told. Marvel is sometimes too into sales and business. They're the leader in the industry if you go by all the charts, so they're doing alright obviously. Marvel starts a lot of stuff but doesn't always follow through. Marvel NEXT seemed to kind of fall flat. They introduced some cool characters and aside from some cameos and stuff, they aren't getting used. Gravity was awesome, he met up with Spider-Man, I think it would be a good idea if the New Avengers maybe took Gravity in as a trainee member, he's a little too old for the Young Avengers, so he can be a reservist or member in training or something.

Quesada's done good work for Marvel, but I really think it's time he step down, he seems to play favorites a little too much.

Murda Mase
I like both, I can't decide.

Batman and the Joker have always been my 2 favorite characters though.

I buy what I think are good stories.

Validus

Pretty much. I will say I prefer DC characters which leads to buying more DC titles obviously. My favorite Marvel characters usually end up dead (Genis) or put on the backburner for more X titles (Beta Ray Bill).

SnakeEyes
I like both a lot, but I'm more of a Marvel guy...

CaptainStoic
Yea I have to go with Marvel on this, my favorite character is from Marvel, can you guess who that is? I love DC too though, I just realized that I have a huge collection of Superman. I have to say that I hate Hal Jordan too, Kyle is the man, and WTF did they do to John Stewart? Icon is another comic hero that they should explore more, but what the hey. DC at times really piss me off with the inconsistancies, thier continuity on characters like Lobo drive me nuts. I don't see that too often with Marvel, and that is why Marvel is my favorite.

Juntai
I like characters of both universes, but I like DC's storyline better.

Wally West
I honestly have no preference to either, they're both good at different things.

That's just a matter of opinion on what is "best" Just because you happen to like Marvel or I happen to like DC it doesn't mean we can declare who makes the better character. Marvel started making mutants and been exploiting countless characters since the 60's. As for real world issues...that's why I like comic books, movies, and video games. I like get away from the real world.

drwerwer
i think im more of a marvel fan

AJ4LIFE
nah image is great

jgiant
Marvel...it has the hulk, punisher, spiderman, wolvie, cap, x-men, avengers, ff...these comics are way better than that dc crap...i like batman, joker, and doomsday, and darkside, other than that they pretty much suck...there characters don't have the emotional or psychological dept that marvel does, marvel is grounded and true to how life would be with these type of heros and villians...(all of the following about dc was true asside from batman)

Dr.Fate
thats your opinion but if DC was writing characters with no psychological depth they wouldn't be in the business of making comics any more. There characters have depth it just took them awhile to get it is all. and image is good just for the fact it has the Savage Dragon

Thunderstrike
Well, jgiant makes a lot of sense. DC still tends to do the whole "our heroes are gods" sort of thing, while Marvel gives the cynicisms and such of a more realistic life. Marvel characters have always had personal problems that are really rough.

drwerwer
yea marvel actually goes into alot dept about there charecters and making some great emotional stories

Not that DC is bad, but Marvel definitely has more realistic characters.

Thunderstrike
Very true. That's basically why I'm a Marvel fan more than a DC fan. Truth be known, some DC interests me. Vertigo definately has some awesome stuff. Movies :
DC : Pretty nice Batman Begins and im looking forward to the new Superman movie
Marvel : Spiderman movies are ok, X-men movies are really good and Fantastic four hoped it would be better

Comics :
DC : Batman and Superman are the only DC comics i own, and i don't like Superman at all, Batman is very intrestingly drawn
Marvel : Still rules. I like every marvel comic with my fav Spiderman.

Merchandise
DC : I have quite a few Batman Dolls from when i was younger and i liked them very much.
Marvel : I thought the spiderman - dolls were quite a rip-off because they couldn't move smoothly and they were broke very fast.

Games
DC : All of the Batman and Superman games have been a laughter so far, they all were boring.
Marvel : Spiderman games very good, Wolverine game rocks and X-men Apocolyse is a great game.

So i will have to go with .... Marvel !

Dark Shazam93
Movies:

DC: DC has had far less but also have prouced the best. they generally stick to Batman and Superman. They have had 3 movies that stick in the mind with Batman Begins, superman and SM2 but also Burton Batmans are very popular, event hough I do not really like them!

MARVEL: Desperate to get as much cash in as possible. The Spidey and X Men movies are pretty good, well X Mens ROCK! Daredevil I liked and was underrated. Hulk was OK but only OK. Elektra etc sucked...

COMICS:

DC: Batman is 100% ownage. Then they have bad asses like the GLs, Captain Marvel, Nightwing and the JSA. They have generally well written stories... however, the character's have less realism than Marvel in that they're all basically untroubled normal by day and by night people. Plus, 6 letters and a space: Jim Lee.

MARVEL: I don't know as much Marvel. But compared to Infinite Crisis, house of M sucked. The currenty reprinted X-Treme X-Men stories in essentia (UK CE) wrer BS... they generally don't seem as well written IMHO but have more character development and personality, plus the sensational Daredevil, who is one of the most realistic heroes I could name in character... insaniy and all!

MERCHANDISE

DC wins, 'nuff said. Marvel merchandise is far from DC quality!

GAMES:

DC: Batman Begins was amazing and a real breath of fresh air. That's it, prettty much. I've never played the animated Bat-games, or the Superman one... those being Rise of Sin Tzu, Vengeance and Shadow of Apokalips. But the Superman Returns game will be 110% sensational!

MARVEL: They've had some amazing Spidey games and all were pretty good, even the weaker ones like PS1 Spiderman 2 and Ultimate spidey. Spiderman 1 PS1 classic was incredibly good as was PS2 Spifderman 2: the Movie!

JUDGEMENT: I'm a DC boy... but that's starting to change/...

Scarlet_Spidey
Yeh i agree marvel merchandise sucked so far. The spiderman dolls were as intresting as a piece of wood looking to the movement they could do. Batman dolls are complete ownage, superman dolls wheren't that good, because of the stupid capes. Although; Marvel does have one good doll, Wolverine. If you push a button on his back his claws pop out.
Really cool doll.
DC wins with ownage.

Games i think Marvel owns completely. The Batman Begins game was very bad (listen to all of the critics and game reviews) , it was commented 'sneaking for dummies'. Spiderman 2 for ps2 and xbox was the best superhero game ever and the first game i got was Spiderman for ps1; very good game.
Marvel OWNS in this one.

So far, DC has only had one good movie 'Batman Begins', while Marvel has had
Spiderman : Very good
Spiderman 2 : good
X-men : VERY GOOD
X-men 2 : VERY GOOD
Hulk : fair, although i thought it sucked
Fantastic four : good, Jessica Alba makes good for a lot of things
Electra : Bad , aargh !!
Marvel OWNS in this one although Batman Begins is twice as good as Spiderman

In comics, Marvel owns still. Marvel has got realistic superheroes, with issues and handicaps, which i think is very good.
Dc on the other hand doesn't dig in to the personal life of a superhero and focusses on the action. DC is very good in creating some sort of Ubermensch, Adolf Hitler would of been proud of DC.
Marvel OWNS. Nuff said.

Marvel OWNS. Nuff said. Whne was the last time you read a DC comic? seriously, they DO have issues...

Thunderstrike
Marvel beat em to it, DS. Also, they may have issues, but in the drama department, Marvel will always have the edge. Look at Genis-Vell. DC is more of an action label than anything else. Not a bad thing by any means, but I feel that their animated series' have better stories, and the characters' powers aren't hard to keep up on.

Dark Shazam93
Thunderstrike, how do you put links under your sig, like that? I can't work it out... I know you can just write the address, but how to write the name of the page with a link in? And I would say DC USED to jst be an action label, there is more to DC now... just look at some classic one off series' for some: Watchmen, V For Vendetta etc but they probably shouldn't count... however, stuff like Bruce Wayne: Murderer? have very little action in... I would call Cataclysm a disaster syroy not action etc...

Thunderstrike
There's a few, but Batman is a rare exception. I consider him a Marvelized character in the DCU. I don't count Vertigo stuff either, because it's geared toward an older audience, and will have more mature themes. DC has improved since I was a kid about ten or so years ago, but there's still things that I don't like about it, like there is some sort of pressure for Superman to go back to the pre-Crisis powerset, or Wonder Woman to be a feminazi. There's still great stuff, no doubt. However, Marvel will always have amazing, and deep storylines on the psychological level.

Also, hit return after the url of your sig to put text underneath it. If it's too big, you need a signature that's only about 130 pixels tall.

Dark Shazam93
I know how to put text but how to put text that contains a link...?

Mr. Valentine
I think that comics-wise DC wins and maybe merchandise. but with movies, games, Marvel win... So on the whole they win, because im pretty sure they would get more cash through ticket sales, dvd and videos games.. etc. big grin

So on the whole they win, because im pretty sure they would get more cash through ticket sales, dvd and videos games.. etc. big grin I've liked DC's movies more recently, Batman, Constantine, V for Vendetta, far better than the likes of Hulk, Punisher, Electra... X Men I think is the only real good franchise there, Spiderman makes money, but I don't think it was as good as the money it pulled in. Marvel has -more- movies on the market of series' that are current .

DC also runs TV, with it's cartoons and Smallville. DVD sales on those are also pretty high up there.

Marvel does and has pretty much always run the video-game front though.

Dark Shazam93
Sadly so... DC has very few games and IDK why... Superman Returns looks really good however and if they get success with GL, WW, Flash, Shazam (unlikely) etc... MUAH HA HA HA HA HAAAAAAAAAA!!!! I wanna see a Deathstroke movie starring Liam Neeson!

Mr. Valentine
SS, i agree with you but i think Marvel own the movie business more because they have more sequel capability, X-men, Spiderman, Fantastic Four, Hulk and Daredevil (if they pluck up the courage) all of these could have potential sequels. whereas, i think some of the DC wont have that, hmm batman begins cud work, um, superman returns? looks rather...crap compared to the old ones to tell the truth. Constantine...nah, that movie werent too good, and V for vendetta confused

Ah, I'm an adult movie-goer though, so I prefer more adult themes with higher calibre acting talent roster. Those DC movies also carried more of a level of realism as well, as opposed to cheap graphics, and cheasy one liners.

Marvel definately has the movie stuff down pat. Superman returns, to be honest, is going to be sub-par compared to the rest of them. They got a guy who can't act to play him, and they're making him out to be Jesus. That one is going to be carried by Kevin Spacey, to be honest. Batman Begins was good, and will hopefully still be good as they make the trilogy. Wonder Woman is being directed by Joss Whedon, who is a known feminist. It's basically gonna be 2 hours of "Men Suck, Women rule" speak and symbolism. Captain Marvel is getting the director from comedy movies. I screamed when I saw that. He's an awesome character who's gonna get a sucky movie. As for Marvel, they've had the best movies, and best video games up to date. The comics hopefully will get better after Thor gets back, and Civil War starts. Right now, considering all the media, Marvel definately has the edge.

Constantine...nah, that movie werent too good, and V for vendetta confused According to Comic Book Movie, thereWILL be a sequel to Constantine... also, they are already in pre-production for the sequel to Superman Returns... and BB is in a trilogy! Plus, DC have plans for:
Wonder Woman
The Flash
Green Lantern
Watchmen (that has its own official site and verything!)
Green Arrow (but that may well not happen now...)
and many more...
Seriously, DC may not be as financially obsessive as Marvel, but they still have good quality stuff!

Mr. Valentine
^ yeah but, some of them wont work or will flop.. Jack black big grin lol and watchmen will probably not be anywhere like the comics

GodofThunder
I Like Marvel even though D.C have the originals......

Yeah like 20 years ago when they were released. The CGI effects and stunts are now nothing compared to the X-men movies.

And i personally don't think that Superman Returns will be a succes, because superman is anti-populair with the youth. I know a lot of people who read and collect comics and none of them are fan of superman. However, almost all of them like Wolverine and Spiderman.(they are just cooler than a guy who can shoot some gelly out of his eyes)
Superman Returns will probably be overlooked because of the succes of X3, released a month earlier.

You got to be kidding me....So because Xmen flicks had better CGI that makes them better?

No Dark Shazam93 siad they were sensational and sensational mostly means they were special and very good. And then i said yes for like 20 years ago but now not anymore. Get it ? Get it ?

Indeed...I've address the fanboy factor for Marvel movies before. Trust me lots of people are realising how these flicks are nothing but blank flicks that depend on the character's fame rather than good storytelling.

That explains why Smallville is one of the most successful shows around.

Personally I think X3 will be a typical summer action movie you watch while stuffing tons of popcorn in your mouth with your brain turned off. Nothing wrong with that but I'll always think it was a shame Fox and Marvel couldn't wait for Bryan Singer to finish Superman.

Well in Belgium the show totally isn't popular, after one season the show was cancelled due to the lack of intrest by watchers.

Yes, and Superman Returns isn't one of those kind of movies because ... ?

And have extra competitors in the race for making a movie a blockbuster ? I don't think so, Marvel was smart releasing the film early.

Validus
Well obviously I can't speak for Belgium but here the show is on what, season 6? It's continued success speaks for itself. Not that I want to get into one of those "My friends say such and such" debates. I'm sure both of us will get different answers.

-"Yes, and Superman Returns isn't one of those kind of movies because ... ?"

Simply because everything I hear about SR isn't related to some mindless action sequence. X3 sounds like block after block of action scenes from every description I've seen thus far. The most common negative comment about SR is it's apparent lack of action scenes.

-"And have extra competitors in the race for making a movie a blockbuster ? I don't think so, Marvel was smart releasing the film early."

What extra competitors? The bottom line is the movie would have been better which is all I or anyone should really care about? I don't think anyone here is going to tell me Brett Ratner is a better director than Bryan Singer and nobody call tell me Ratner will finish that trilogy better than Singer would have.

How so? Hulk, DD, and Electra were all pretty bad. Batman, Constantine, and V for Vendetta were better. FF was ok, Spidey flicks are overrated, but good money makers, and X-men were the only truly well done movies out of the bunch.

It's too early to tell with Superman returns, but with all the Smallville fans, parents, and Superman fans...I'm sure it will open quite strong. It's too early to tell with WW and Captain Marvel, but I wouldn't count them out. What I REALLY want is a well done GL movie....now THAT would be awesome.

Scarlet_Spidey
My friends and i consider Superman being one of the most boring characters, sure we all watched the reruns of Lois and Clark, but in comics this is a boring character. He is practically immortal except shown to cryptonite. Well, half of his enemies don't even have cryptonite so he battles them but he is letting them win because he could beat them anytime ? And frankly said, i just don't like the new actor of Superman, he's too young and he isn't as self confident as superman would have to look. His penis was too big (really true) so they had to make it smaller with the computer. Haha.

illadelph12
Neutral.

batdude123
I like both of them equally. Just because Batman happens to be my favorite superhero, doesn't mean that I like Marvel any less than DC. smile

King KAM
im neutral, but lately marvels been outwriting DC.

Scarlet_Spidey
Hey, would x2 be similar to superman returns since they have thesame directors ?

Thunderstrike
No. Superman in Superman Returns is basically Jesus in a gay outfit the way that they're portraying him.

Scarlet_Spidey
lol laughing

smiley8
Im more for DC. Even before i knew there were two different companies my fav characters hav been batman and superman. don't get me wrong marvel good and all but dc edge it.
