He's a Jedi in training, so why would he have a blaster when he need's to learn how to use his lighsabre?

In the process of learning without a master at your side, and in dire times, it's always wise to carry a weapon you DO know how to use, alonside the weapon you hardly know to use.

maybe because he had next to zero real lightsaber training even after he left dagobauh or dagobaw or whatever

Luke wasn't THAT great with a lightsaber. He was a trainee, he obviously wasn't going to want to go toe-to-toe with hordes of stormtroopers armed with a weapon he wasn't all that great with. He had some skill, sure, but it's easier to pick off stormtroopers with a blaster if you can use the blaster better than the lightsaber.

But after Dagobah he was still using his blaster. Then he has his fight with vader and does pretty well.

That is because if he used a blaster it would have zero effect on him. Yoda had sent him against a copy of Vader in Dagobah so he probably already knew he was going to face him with a lightsaber.

Probably standard issue with an X-Wing suit.

Plus it's always good to have a back-up weapon.

Luke is not just a Jedi in training but also a rebel fighter and under the command of the Rebel Alliance.

This is what makes the writing of the OT tens time better then the PT, cause the little things in the OT, Lucas got right. Luke has a blaster in ESB, even after his training with Yoda, cause he still doesn't trust the force, and that goes back to his failure at the cave, where he brings his weapons into the cave.

By ROTJ, when he has matured in those 6 months before going to find Han Solo on Tatooine, he now only carries a lightsaber, and uses that all the time, as a blaster is just another uncivilized weapon.

Yes, but remember what Yoda said to Luke before entering the cave on Dagobah, "Only what you take with you." The cave on Hoth was just Luke getting captured, and that is different then knowlingly walking into a cave where a wise Jedi Master tells you that you don't need to take any weapons in.

What I was trying to say was that Luke has already seen the power of the Force combined with the omnipenetrating power of his lightsaber.

When Yoda tells him to go to the cave, Luke goes there as he has gone dark places before. Weapons at his side... When Yoda offers his advice, I bet Luke feels quite confident in his arsenal of primitive Force tricks (that he quite frankly doesn't control) and his evercutting glowstick. So leaving them out might seem foolish from his point of view.

But then again. I think Yoda made his point way better the way things unfolded.

THe point about Luke taking and using his blaster is better made on Cloud City.

Yes I mean the fight with Vader pointed his skill. It was vaders use of the Force that defeated Luke tireing him out. He brought his blaster because he he brought it. The reason being that he trusted the weapon more him being in the rebellian n'all

Queeq's answer seems best to me. Luke, though proficient with the ol' laser sword, probably did not believe he was ready to use it so often as the Jedi of two decades ago did.
