Harry is teally stupid in this book. I mean if he had never gone down to try capturing the stone before voldemort, voldemort would never have been close getting the stone. Dumbledore had no reason to worry, the stone was perfectly safe. It is a fackt. I'm out..

Harry is really stupid in this book. I mean, if he had never gone down to try to capture the Stone before Voldemort, Voldemort would never have been so close to getting the stone. Dumbledore had no reason to worry, because the stone was perfectly safe. And that, is a Fact. vanice out...

they're not drunk. they actually make a good point because Dumbledoor said that only someon who wanted the stone but didn't want to use it would be able to get it. therefor, Voldy would never have been able to get it. In fact, Harr'y's going down to save it actually put it in jeopardy because he could get it out of the mirror and Voldy almost got it.

ladygrim
Sooo basically your saying its all Harrys fault

Rapscallion
nothing is anyone's fault because voldemort didn't get the stone. What I and vanice are saying is that Voldemort would never have had the opportunity to get the stone if Harry didn't try to save it.

I think a better way to ensure the stone was safe would have been for Dumbledore to have put all the security and things he had up to safeguard the stone then put a fake in it's place and keep the real stone on a shelf in his office.
Hidden in plain sight.

Here's a question that sort of pertains(sp?) to this: If the stone is so dangerous why would they have built in ways of getting past protection. Like why would they have the actuall key to open the door in the same room.(the room with all the flying keys where they have to ride broomsticks to get it.) Or why don't they have a chess board with only white pieces so that you can't possibly win? Or why would there be a potion to get you throuh the flames in Snapes challenge. If they really wanted to protect it, there would be no potion so you couldn't get through at all. This is a little off topic but it is something that has bothered me for a while and this seems like a good thread to post it in since we are arguing over why the climax of the first book doesn't work.

kaz larner
bcuz what would be the point in mentioning it unless there was a way for harry to get to the stone and meet voldemort again.

It's a good point, but Harry didn't know what Dumbledore knew, so therefore, I don't believe it's fair to hold him accountable and call him "stupid."

But Harry didn't know that, he had no way of knowing and so did what seemed best to get the stone from Voldy.

well he must be the world champion in "putting your nose on other peoples buisness" ( I don't know if you can say that laughing out loud ) .

I'm not blaming him for it, I'm just saying he put it in jeopardy when it would have been perfectly safe.
