How does one totally reboot ones PC? As in deleting exactly everything except the standard necesary files and making it as good as new.

Well my dad "forgot" (more like ignored) to update norton and after his daily porn surfing the PC is filled with viruses messing things up pretty bad and I'm not kidding it really was my dad and he's blaming me for not teaching him anything about a PC (He's a total n00b btw) which I have but he never listens to anything I say.

any tips? erm

Bloigen

You mean Reformatting the PC.

First, ditch Norton and pick up Avast, SpyBot Search & Destroy, Registry Mechanic/or System Mechanic. Run those to see what good they will do.

Nearly every virus can be eliminated without need to reformat, trust me I had a malicious trojan a while back that none of the programs could remove and I did a Google search on the name of the trojan and it took me to tech help forums who walked me through how to manually remove it.

If the viruses are gone, then how come your computer is still messed up? You have something else on there.

Download System Mechanic, it'll run a complete diagnostic on your computer and repair everything it can. Your computer will run like new afterwards.

*tries out*

LanceWindu
And if possible, get System Mechanic Pro...they have trial versions for both of these at their website.

IcePunk
I can say so far this aint workin', it could only fix the minor problems erm

edit: tried pro, it didnt make any difference, ok so I must ask again, how do I start the reformating process?

LanceWindu
Google is your friend...no expression

Sorry System Mechanic didn't work, but it was worth a try.

Go here and follow the instructions: http://www.filerecovery.org/reformattingyourharddrive.html

Yeah, you'll kinda need the disc.

Guess I'll have to live with this erm but things could be worse.

one thing's bugging me, when I try to open a media file that is opened with window media player by double clicking the hourglass apears for a half second and nothing happens and I have to open it by right clicking and open it by going into "open with" and choose from there, is there a way to fix this? It's really irritating erm
