Since Acclaim is dead, disney got the Turok licence and gave it to the company that made the Def jam games, strangely.

The game uses the latest Unreal 3 motor droolio

The first and second game were great. I remember when I first saw the video for the original before the N64 had come out, it looked soooo good, just blew me away.

It would be nice if this new one didn't suck.

IcePunk
Yeah, Turok 1 was great to, but I wasnt fond of the grey scaled atmosphere, but other than that it was great. Turok 3 wasnt so bad, but when I played it I was a braindead kid who didnt care too much about gameplay and could find just about any game entertaining, aaaah good times.

And yeah, lets hope so

Here are the first screen shots for Turok.

I have never played before, what system? And what are/will the controls like?

It will be available for PS3 and Xbox 360.

A Wii port will come later.

Yea it seems like there are other people in the lost land now. Which is stupid. Turok isn't about team based killing, its you vs. everyone else fighting in HUGE worlds that take hours upon hours upon hours to play through.

P.S. Turok 2 was amazing, one of my fav N64 games. I hope they release it to the VC at some point.

It's not based in the lost land, it's a planet which is covereed by tropical forests and dinosaurs which have yet to go extinct on the planet.

Well that makes it even more stupid...Seriously, what ever happened to the magic that was Turok 1 and 2???

erm

Such a shame..

Turok 1 and 2 were awesome, the ones after...meh. Hope this one is good.

Wow, the graphics look fvcking awsome. Gears of War awsome.

((The_Anomaly))
This game looks cool....but it looks NOTHING like Turok. Helicopters, tactical squads, "Turok" looks like a marine from Doom 3..wtf? That isn't Turok. Not at all. The only thing that makes this at all like Turok is that there is grass and dinosaurs.

I think thats the point.

They have to change it because nonbody cares about the old Turok.

IceJaw
Yeah.

I think they even said that in some interview..

Well it can't get worse than Evolution was.

I'm sure fans of Turok 1 and 2 care about the old Turok, you know...the people who made it popular by buying it. I for one am pretty pissed at this. Turok was about being alone in huge levels by yourself and exploring around and finding stuff. It always kinda had a Metroid-esk feel to it, though with a lot more gore and shooting, which was why it was so awesome (Turok 2 in particular). They might as well just retired the Turok franchise and called this something else. This would be like making a Zelda proper (not a spin off) and making it a turn-based RPG. It wouldn't be Zelda and simply slapping on the name Zelda would not make it Zelda in the same way that slapping on the Turok name does not make this title a real Turok game.

Smasandian
Where were those fans for Turok 3, Turok Rage Wars and Turok Evolution?.

They couldnt just do another Turok like those and call it a day and expect people to play it.

It's an welcoming change to the Turok series, make it more modern because Turok Evolution sucked balls. Oh great, another ****ing dinosaur.... but this game, if it does have commando squads and helicopters kinda of makes it feel like Jurassic Park vs Counter Strike and that is an hell alot more interesting than some dude killing dino's.

WO Polaski
I think it comes down to opinion, really. Much like the opinions on whether Call of Duty should be modernized or not.

BlaxicanHydra
You're like the ultimate peace keeper aren't you?

Smasandian
Game franchises need to be reinvented when things go stale.

If you dont like the move, cool. But to think that its smart to not do anything different and make another Turok game about the lizard king and some shitty villian cowboy and having a game that didnt sell at all, or have any sort of good criticism is not very good.

They have to do something. People dont give a shit about Turok. Seed of Evil was awesome, but thats 10 years ago. They need to do something.

Call of Duty 4 on the other hand....yeah, they have to modernize the setting. Call of Duty 3 was a dissappointment and if they kept to the WW2 setting, sales would of declined significantly.

Franchises have to reinvent themselves.

I had to make a Europian account to get cause it wasn't available on the American market place atleast yesterday haven't checked today.

About the demo it is about 20-25 minutes long with pretty intensive action you can use 5 type of weapons: Knife ,arrow,Smg,Shotgun and Pulse rifle some has alternate function like smg has silencer ,pulse gun has energy granade launcher and the shotty has flare which lures the dinos the knife animations are pretty well done and it's nice to see that you don't have to watch the back of the npc chars cause they can handle their attackers and the usually provide your help.

Sounds promising, man I hope this game turns out well. I used to love Turok.

Raijin
DLed the demo.

It's pretty good but it's pretty linear compared to the other Turok games and the voice acting is definitely not as good as in say, Mass Effect but still a whole lot better than say, the original Resident evil. The demo was kind of challenging, you often get outnumbered and it's easy to get killed if you lose your cool and your guard. This game's a definite rent if you ask me.

((The_Anomaly))
Well, I played the Demo and I gotta say that I'm much more impressed then I thought I'd be. Does it feel like 'Turok' Though? Yes and no. Parts scream "Turok" the bow and killing dino's is awesome and much cooler then before with the knife etc. I honestly think that they could have made this game 10 times better by at least adhering to the more mystic overtones of the original Turoks, that's my main gripe with this game.

Things I don't like:

1. Squad based crap. Honestly, not everything has to be squad based, just because its the "in" thing to do with FPS doesn't mean it should be in every damn one. Turok should have still been alone, this REALLY bugs the crap outta me.

2. The complete and utter disregard for the previous Turoks. The guys last name in this game is "Turok" where as before it was more of a title, they should have had it a title with the mystic destiny thing tied to it. I'm fine with it being in the future and all that, but why not say that your a crashed ex special ops agent (basically the same story as the actual game) but say that your squad died (all but the leader guy who, like in the actual game, is actually evil) and then have you find out later that you are a descendant of the Fireseed family and are the rightful heir to the mantel of "Turok" of which there has not been one in like 10 generations or something like that. Instead we get "Gears of War" like bullshit in a Turok game, honestly its stupid.

3. You being on a planet and not in the lost land. Ok, I'm fine with it being another planet, but they could have you find out that the "Portals" to the Lost Land in the previous games were actually portals to another planet (a la 'Stargate') and the planet you are on is in fact the Lost Land, just no one knew it was.

Other then those major gripes I still enjoyed the demo, if the game holds up to reviews (scoring a 8 or higher overall) then I might pick this game up still. It still had glimmers of the old 'Turok' feel that I haven't had since 'Turok 2'...so here is me keeping my fingers crossed that your squad dies near the start of the game. Because I can live with everything else, but the squad is just retarded.

Morridini
Didn't they (the makers) state that they wanted to move away from the older games? With plot and everything, but still keep the Turok feel. Your complaints seem to only confirm their intentions. Will try to test this game once it is available for mortals.

((The_Anomaly))
Yea they did, but that doesn't mean that it isn't a stupid move. I can live with everything else, its the squad based thing that I really dont like. I hope its not a major part of the game.

Estacado
I wonder if it will have 4 player co-op......

Xbox Magazine gave it 7, said it gets old after a while, but they said the online was terrific.

"Undoubtedly the first pleasant surprise of 2008" ?.. lmao

sorry but IMO... this would probably be the last game I'd say that about

@st
Both the IGN and Gametrailers review have me wanting this game, the demo was a little underwhelming, but I do want to play the full game. And I would say having a Turok game that is halfway decent, after Evolution, is a pleasant surprise.

Blax_Hydralisk
I heard that there is no aim assisting feature, so trying to use your gun is like impossible, especially if it has high recoil.

@st
Xplay? stick out tongue

Blax_Hydralisk
No, internet reviewer.

.. Yeah it was X-Play stick out tongue

Smasandian
I dont like the new X-Play.

It's too much like Attack of The Show but without the funny.

Blax_Hydralisk
I agree.

((The_Anomaly))
Well I gave in and picked this game up a few days ago due to my love of the old Turok's and I gotta say, its better then I thought it would be. Its completely different then the old Turok's, and its definitely lacking some things, and a bit of polish, but all in all not bad for Propoganda's first outing. Is it perfect? Hell no, not even close. It has penitential to be amazing (which I hope if there is a #2 it will be) but its just slightly off in some areas. They got the Dinos down pretty much perfect, they kick ass and are easily the best part of the game. You gotta love killing raptors and shiz with a knife. The multiplayer (what I've played of it) it pretty decent, its like Unreal style MP, chaotic and crazy.

Its certainly not groundbreaking in any way, but it is fun, I'll give it that. I'll give a better impression when I've completed the single player sometime later on.

Estacado
Singleplayer is too short IMO.
It took me about 7 hours to beat it mp is fun but the knifing part can become annoying.

((The_Anomaly))
What difficulty level did you play it on? I'm playing on Hard, I always play FPS's on hard since they are usually way too short.

Normal.

Oh and most of the servers are way too laggy.

ragesRemorse
The game is ok. It is just another typical FPS to me. I enjoyed the atmosphere of the level designs, but with the FPS genre strangling the video game market at the moment. It can be hard to distinguish one experience from the other. The only aspect of this game which separates it from another mediocre Fps is the dinosaurs and setting. The graphics are standard unreal engine. some lighting effects and designs, however, do make the visual package appealing. If you are like me, and focus on single player games. There is nothing here warranting a purchase. I've noticed other posters complaining about the length of the game. It is very very short, but again, that has, unfortunately, become apart of the standard for FPS games. Its definitely worth a rental, it is pretty fun , but just another FPS.

It projected their dry humor much more. This new set adds nothing to the personality of the show or to them. Well besides a lot of lights. I liked the more darker theme they had going on that matched them very well.
And the opening to the show is so uninspired. I dislike both the music and the random clips they put in there.

Yeah, feels mainstream to me, but they still give fairly comprehensive reviews.

InnerRise
Yup, I'll still watch. Still love the 2 as hosts.

Anata wa wakarimasu ka.....

Smasandian
I'll watch when I run on the treadmill but other than that, I dont like it all.

Watched it today, and I was like, "wow, I really like this episode", but thats because they reviewed more than 1 game.

I like their reviews but I think because of the short time constraint, they sometimes are contridicting.

For example, they reviewed Crysis and gave it a 3 out of 5 but the reason was because it felt like Far Cry and it was linear, but they give Turok the same score stating that there is obvious gameplay flaws with it. Then go around and give COD4 5 out of 5 (which probably deserves that), but dont mention the fact that the game is completely linear and is the same COD game since the Medal Of Honor. To me, that doesnt make sense.

ragesRemorse
I dont know that i would call COD4 the same game as the others in the franchise. The gameplay and story is diverse...,anything but linear. I think they gave Turok such a mediocre score, because it was just another mediocre shooter. As they pointed out, the targeting system was frustrating, more so than it needed to be. They said the targeting system is what kept it from earning more than three stars. Personally,i think, Even if the targeting was more friendly, it wouldnt have been more deserving of a higher rating. I think, sometimes the reviews on x-play seem contradicting because they only have 2-3 minutes for each review.

InnerRise
Not to mention having a Max of 5 Stars to give doesn't allow that huge a range when giving ratings.

They've explained before how just because 2 games get a 3 out of 5, doesn't necessarily mean they are of the same quality. A 3 can be bad or good.

Anata wa wakarimasu ka.....

Smasandian
Yeah, I hate the 5 star rating. It doesnt leave anything.

Crysis is obviously better than Turok, but has the same score. It wouldnt be a problem if they're was a written review of it, but its only a 2 minute segment so we dont know the difference.

Rage, are you serious saying that COD4 isnt a linear game? The main complaint of the game is that the same guys come out at the same time everytime you play it.

Blax_Hydralisk
Call of Duty 4 is incredibly linear. As far as the story and gameplay mechanics, it's just as linear as Halo 3 (To an extent..).

That's pretty much unavoidable though with any first person shooter that doesn't have to do with magic or powers or anything like that, like Bioshock.

Smasandian
Bioshock is linear also.

The only game I can think of is STALKER that is linear, but not completly. You can go anywhere in the game world but you still have to complete missions.

ragesRemorse

No, i think they made a decent effort in keeping the story non linear. Of course, the re-spawning enemies is a frustrating and annoying complaint, but the alternating perspectives, flashbacks and gameplay helped it feel fresh.

Smasandian
I dont care about the story, but no doubt in my mind that the gameplay is linear.

FistOfThe North
Just picked up Turok 360 for $5.69 @ gamestop today.

I traded in mass effect and assassins creed. The store had a "$5 off" promotion of some sort going on and got another 1.80 off just by using my Edge-Card.

kinda of an ok deal, i guess. Maybe cause i've always liked Turok, well, just the first 2 games (pt1 and seeds of evil (especially), and i can't wait to play this one for the 360.

I saw Turok playing on some monitors at gamestop and man does the game look good. I read the instructional booklet and it looks like the controls kinda play like Halo and Call of Duty.

I love how you can use dino's to attack others (mercs and other dino's) while you sneak in and out of places cause of it.

Smasandian
I traded in Assassins Creed and got Call of Duty 4 and Crysis for $50.

I thought that was a great deal.

Then I traded in Rainbow Six Vegas, and Madden 08 and got World in Conflict for $6.

I love trade-ins.

InnerRise
I've never traded in. I just can't part with my games. Even after I've completed them. Like to keep them in my Library.

Anata wa wakarimasu ka.....

Smasandian
Meh, not me, its a waste of space unless you know your going to play them again.

Back in the day, I would keep them because I could only afford a few of them, so I just rented alot. But now, unless the game is really good, like Gears of War or Bioshock and I know I'll play it again, I always trade it in.

I always trade in my console games, but rarely trade in my PC. Alot of them are awesome. Wouldnt want too, and in a funny sense, I always like to play the old PC games on new hardware.

BackFire
I rarely trade games in.

I think the last game I traded in was Madden 64, usually I don't like to because I always think that I may want to play them again someday.

With that said, I'm going to be trading in Assassin's Creed soon, as I know I will never play that again.

Smasandian
I dont have enough time to replay games.

Unless the game is great. I wont. Especially if I get involved with some MP game like TF2, or Call of Duty 4.

Rewmac
I think this is the lamest game out in the last one month.

I downloaded the Turok demo on my PS3 and I thought that is was more than mediocre, but nothing special. I have to rent this game first before I can consider buying it.

Joe K
Im gonig to rent and check out the online play first.

FistOfThe North
The games' been good, so far.

it's crazy fast paced. The kills kinda have that half life 2 feeling to it. The enemies look and talk (to you and eachother) and make the same kinda dying noises just like half life 2 enemies. I like the bow and arrow. I head-shot an enemy from mid-range, without him noticing me, with one of my arrows, with the arrow going through his skull and into a wall, clipping his head onto the wall as he dropped his gun with his body hanging.

But the game plays alot like Gears of War. They even act and talk like the gears of wars characters.

I can't wait to see more guns, my most fav aspect of the game.

Dark-Jaxx
I enjoyed and beat it. I like the different knife moves and my favorite gun is the Pulse Rifle.

FistOfThe North
So far to me it looks like the dinos in the game seem like they're more in the way, like a nuisance rather, than being apart of the game.

Turok is more of a man hunter than a dinosaur hunter now.

Dark-Jaxx
Not really, some of the Dinos are fodder, but a group of Raptors or Baby Rex's can easily mess you up. As can a couple Dilopwhateversaurus'. Don't even get me started on the T-Rex.

FistOfThe North
I'm on the last leader; that huge T-Rex. I was battling him all night till i couldn't play anymore. went to bed at 2:30am when i had to get up at 7am for work. i exhausted now, hehe.

I tried everything. I've tried distracting it by shooting flares past him, (it does look at/ follow them) i've shot it with bazookas, that rocket launcher turret, i've blasted it in the face with fast shotgun bursts, i've blown up huge stacks of toxic barrels with my grenades while it stood or ran next to them and all, all that's done is trip him a little.

He's too fast, and it's just walking, lol. Like it walks faster that i run. I'll get him today after work. I'll have more energy then.

I'll kill it today. So help me i don't care if it takes me the rest of the day i'm gonna kill it today.

haha

Estacado
Pick up the shotgun and use the flares to distract her even if you shoot it about 20-30 meters away she will follow then use the rocket turret fire about 5-6 shots when she get's close use the flares again to distract her and run over to the other turret do this until she dies.....

ok so she does follow them even if you shoot it that far. i've never attempted that cause i just thought i'd be to far for her with me wasting flares.

I'm sorry man but this method ain't working. I tried it step by step and it hasn't done anything. I've hit her 12 times with the rocket turret and nothing.

Just killed her, and beat the game. I inserted a grenade deep in her eye socket while she was down and she got up in excruciating pain and a beep later the top of her skull exploded off, with blood raining on me for like 5 seconds. As Marcus Fenix would say: "Sweeeet."

But you must've played on easy cause it took more than just shooting her down with the rocket turret. You had to walk up to her, while she was flailing still causing me damage.

I dunno. I played the game on the hardest possible level all the way through. Maybe that's why.

Either way the game satisfied me. i give it a 8/10. My problems were a lack of map and good save points and lack of gun innovation. Would've been nice to have the cerebral bore. Maybe next time.

Peace.

Dark-Jaxx
My only problem is the lack of supercoolio weapons and less variety of enemies.

I killed Rex by getting the RPG and Shotgun, flaring and shooting, then restock on RPG and do it again, then I got the little mine gun, and that killed her.

On every difficulty you have to walk up to her to do the "finishing" RT move....... erm
Also it took me more then 12 shots from the turret and still that's the easiest way....

High Priest
Ive only played it on the demo .i thought it was good love the knife thing were if the dinosaur takes you down you can stap them in the jaw.the graphics are good to and the dialouge.

ragesRemorse
I had a lot of fun with this game for the first few hours, but then it became tedious and ultra repetitive. My two biggest complaints about this game are the stealth aspect and the disposable dinosaurs.

The game does not require you to be stealthy, however, it constantly invites and suggests that you play stealthily. The game offers stealth and the controls are tight, but the game is not designed as a stealth game. as a hunter it is neat to stalk your prey through the tall weeds, but spotting your enemies in the high grass becomes a game of luck. When you are in corridors trying to stalk baddies, you may be waiting around a corner waiting for the enemy to come around so you can dispatch them, but there is nothing in the game that gives you an advantage in warning you of approaching enemies. The music effects have slight sounds which resemble footsteps, so dont rely on sound or peering around corners. The biggest problem with playing this game stealthily is the checkpoint system. The checkpoints are spread out to far. You may spend ten to fifteen minutes on one section only to make a mistake and have to replay the entire area over. With this said it is rewarding when you are able to clear an area taking down a platoon of enemies with nothing but your knife.

The dinosaurs almost seem like a gimmick or after thought in this game. Their animations are very well done...,i have no complaints with the designs because they are great. There was no point in the game though, that i was ever concerned when confronted by a dinosaur. Not even the T-rex offered any tyoe of threat in the game. I did not die once from dinosaur attacks through out the entire game. Although, it is very rewarding to knife the dino's to death, they just do not offer any type of challenge or threat. Being a Turok game this is almost disappointing.

The game is definitely worth playing. The Graphics are very good. The voice acting and dialogue is aces. The controls are tight with a few glaring problems. The biggest problem is the balance of difficulty. If you choose to run and gun, this game offers NO difficulty at all. You can merely plow through enemies with duel SMG's and not break a sweat. If you choose to be a sam fischer, you will get very sick of this game very quickly.
