Mate there is more to life than Reputation .... I find that empirical proof is always the best way to express ones point.

Balrog has done nothing to suggest he is on the Thing level. Your interpretation of the Balrogs power is based solely on the reputation presented by Tolkien. I doubt that Tolkien read much marvel !
